Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Another vote for vacations!

And whoever said vineyards as well - I grew up in the Finger Lakes, and driving by vineyards just smells like home! 🍇

Also violet - all shades of purple, really, as they were my mom's favorite.
Finger Lakes Vineyards! I lived in Ithaca for 2 years and Syracuse for 5, and a favorite way to spend a Saturday was to go wine tasting! Those were the days when NYS wine was pretty sweet, but the vintners have perfected their craft by now; the Finger Lakes wineries make some pretty decent wine these days!
(and how we didn't get killed, wine tasting and then driving those twisty, narrow roads along the sides of the gorges is beyond me...)

My bedroom is purple and DD's new kitchen will be purple, once the carpentry is done (not painting until all the other work is completed). Both are more lavender than purple, but still purple!

Lilacs- I love lilacs. They were one of my mom's favorite flowers, so every time I smell them I think of her. Pansies, too.

I had a lilac prom dress for my very first prom. It was SO 70s... purple lace, long sleeves with ruffles at the cuffs, deep ruffle at the bottom of the dress, with 4 rows of elastic to cinch in at my midsection. Think of Gunne Sax dresses... I loved that dress.

3 random things...

My Nook. I can read anywhere I want, and I never pay more than $2.99 a book- usually 99 cents or free!

That my husband comes in the door every night. I have so many friends/relatives who are divorced. I am very grateful that we have managed to keep pulling the wagon in the same direction. There have been bumps in the road, times I wasn't sure we liked each other very much, but we made the conscious choice to keep on keeping on, together. Not everyone is that fortunate.

Christmas lights. I keep them up on my porch all year- they are multicolored icicle lights. I love the warm, soft glow of all the colors, greeting me as I come home at night, lighting the porch when we sit outside after dark in the summer.

The various weather factors guiding Hurricane Francine to our east - It's difficult to be completely grateful because it's not a fish storm and it will surely have an impact on other people...possibly even our friends in LA. Still, there is gratitude in being in an area that's largely been spared. Edit- also not completely letting my guard down as we do have bits of the feeders coming in, even though we are on the far west side of the storm.

DHs Costco Finds - Romance movies always seem to show gestures of love in very cliche ways. In our life, one of the little gestures is the little things we see in our travels that might interest the other. Not that I need it, but last night, DH came home with a huge tray of baklava just for me. Now that's love!

Family Visits - My parents are currently up in the northeast visiting with family and old friends. The moved away from the area over 30 years ago, so they don't get to see everyone very often. I'm so happy to see them getting in some quality time with loved ones.

Marzipan. I was given a bar of marzipan dipped in dark chocolate, recently, and it's delicious!!! 🍫

Dishwasher. It's nice to shut the door, press a button and walk a way while it does the washing. 🫧🧼

Sunshine. So good to have a sunny start to the day today. It's uplifting, isn't it?! 🌞

I'm also grateful to have this thread always here to come back to; even though I'm away quite a bit at the moment..

I hope you, and all our fellow DISers in the path of Francine stay safe. :grouphug: I am grateful that the storm is not coming to Florida, but I wouldn’t wish a hurricane on anyone.

I am grateful for the DISboards and the friends I have made here. We may never meet in person, but we are friends just the same.

I am grateful I figured out how to manually lock my garage door. The opener broke down, and my BIL is planning to install a new one while they are here for Thanksgiving. It was original to the house, so it had a good long life. The first couple of nights I was very nervous about sleeping in the house in case someone tried to get in. I haven’t lived in a house with a manual garage door since I was a child, so it took a few days for me to figure out where the lock was and how to use it.

When I was a kid, we lived next to an older couple, who always took an interest in the neighborhood kids, like an extra set of grandparents. (We were even expected to check in on report card day! - She always knew when it was, and she always made cookies. 🍪😃 )

Because I had a C-section with DS, I was very grateful to have MIL (a retired nurse) checking in on us after we came home!

One of the reasons I'm grateful for texting is that you can check in on someone whenever you think of them and not have to worry about whether it's a good time to call.
