Three Things...Gratitude Thread

My phone does this wonderful thing I type one thing. It looks fine. I hit post and then I post something totally different.
I said when I’m at DISNEY that’s not what posted
I wish I could find how to turn that off. This auto correct is driving me nuts.
It’s like after the fact auto correct
Yes! That happens to me too. Makes me look illiterate in text messages 🤯

Things on a rainy day:

1. Today, we were on a bus coming back from a work trip. We drove through terrible rain and wind storms, so grateful for the bus driver's safe driving and making it home!

2. How the rain greens everything up when the sun pops back out.

3. Sitting on the deck watching and listening to the rain (if it's not too windy)

Yes! That happens to me too. Makes me look illiterate in text messages 🤯
Right ! Or just plain crazy ! I swear I type one thing I look at it it looks fine and then two seconds later it’s like everything changed and I don’t see it until after I posted and I’m like that’s not what I said
It thinks I’m saying one thing and it changes my words and I wish it would stop doing that

I feel that! It’s mind boggling! I often have to auto correct the auto correct.
Calgon, take me away.

Good Sunday Morning!

I’ll do a mix….

#1 - I’m grateful that people are hugging again - I’m a hugger - it was terrible during COVID when hugging people was a big no no.

#2 - I’m grateful that my FIL is always available to help my DH with projects - he’s taught my DH so much, and even though my DH now is more knowledgeable than he is, my FIL is still a very valuable helping hand.

#3 - I’m grateful for my softball moms friend group - we meet once a month for dinner and have a lot of good laughs. Back when our girls played travel ball together, we’d have a lot of late nights in the hotel lobby - we talked about everything - nothing was a secret - LOL!

I wanted to do paperback books, but then I thought - I really don’t like paperback books. I love to read, but I use a Kindle - I have no idea when I read an actual paperback book. If a book doesn’t come in a Kindle version, then I’m not going to read it. I ❤️ paperback books on my Kindle!

Happy Sunday!

I will do a mix as well.

Grateful for my best friend. 👯‍♀️

Grateful for the banana cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory. It’s light and not too sweet. 🍌

Grateful for my FiL and the mountain home he has kept up, even though he no longer lives there. DH and the kids are headed there today for an extended vacation, and I will join next weekend. 🌲

I love reading - I prefer in hardback book but they cost a lot more than then a paperback so often times I get a paper back book - I like to donate my books to schools libraries I like to read a lot of historical fiction
I am always grateful for books!!!

Hugs - best thing ever🤗🤗🤗

Cheesecake - I love cheesecake! Very grateful for cheesecake

And as I’ve mentioned before, I am always grateful for my friends❤️❤️

The calendar has so much inspiration today, I couldn't decide!

So take your pick:

Today's Topic (Sun, 7/30) - 3 things you're grateful for from any (or a mix) of the above categories
Friendship - the many people I've met on the DIS. Hoping the boards stay intact.

FIL - we bought his house when he died (well, long story it was my SIL's, but he lived here). It allowed me to not  have to work.

Public education - as you know, we homeschool, but I support our public teachers!

Rain...

I love the way the air smells when rain hits the asphalt on a hot summer day.
Listening to the rain, especially when I am snuggled down with my favorite blanket.
I love to go out to the beach during a rain storm and watch the lightning strike and the waves crash on the rocks.

Mixed bag...

Public education: I am a huge supporter of public education. I feel we benefit as a society from having an educated populace. I'm opposed to vouchers and such for private or religious education as I feel we should all have the same basic, unbiased (hahaha these days) general education, and that is what our taxes should support. Free basic education, and if you want more/other for your kids, that's on you. I taught in the public schools for 10 years, but we also homeschooled for 3 years because the public system wasn't meeting DD's needs. No matter, I was still fine with my tax dollars going to public education.

Cheesecake: One of life's pleasures. I like a rich, dense cheesecake, and especially if it's a vanilla/chocolate swirl with a touch of orange. I am only good for about three bites, but those bites are heavenly!

Friendship day: Thanks, everyone, for letting me be opinionated and whiny about surgery and still hanging in there, talking, chatting, and being supportive. We don't even know each other, really, but we are all hanging in here together. I have close friends IRL, but I also enjoy the friendships we've made through the DISboards!

I am definitely grateful for my FIL - he's amazing!! He's smart, generous, fun, and always helps with whatever house stuff we haven't learned how to handle yet. 🛠️ Plus, he got me my an interview for my first job after I moved here! We worked for different departments of the same bank💲💰until he retired.

Inspired by Cheesecake Day - I'm grateful for premade graham cracker (and now nut-based) crusts. It's so nice to have them on hand (along with instant pudding) to make quick pies!

And definitely paperback books! 📚 - I'm a big reader, and sometimes a hard-cover is just too heavy or bulky to lug around. (I do read electronic format occasionally as well, but I love a good tactile book experience! ...and that new-book smell ...and that old-book smell. :rotfl: )

Public Schools:
1. I went to a good public school and got a good education that well prepared me for college and life in general.
2. My kids also got a good education in public schools and I feel like they are well prepared. Oldest DD just graduated from college and did well. Now in graduate school.
3. Friends—today I am feeling grateful for oldest DD’s friends. She has several core groups that have stuck together through college, moves, job changes and now graduate school.

I'll go with friendships:

1. Very grateful for passing friendships - DH and I travel a decent amount now and get to know different people on most trips. It's so nice being able to somewhat keep in touch through different social media outlets.

2. Grateful for my family friendships - I'm blessed to have a great family and feel like I would be friends with many of them even if we weren't related.

3. Grateful for my kids friends - especially DD1 has such a strong supportive friend group. She is 26 now and most of them graduated high school with her. They all went different ways during college (a couple didn't go the college route), but they all remained close. Honestly, I wish I had a friend group like she does lol!

International Friendship Day
What a great day! I grew up overseas as an American ex-pat and went to an international school and have friends all over the world. I am very thankful for all of them. My best friends in the world are from my international school overseas, even to this day. We stay in touch a lot.

Support for Public Education
Well, I guess I should support it, I work in it! I have worked as a teacher and a school counselor for 24 years now! I am starting year 25 this year. I worked in Los Angeles USD for 17 years and now in NC for 7 years. I have 8 years left until retirement.

My kids have gone to public school as well and have had positive experiences.

Cheesecake Day
Cheesecake Factory's key lime is divine! The Godiva Chocolate is also very good. I am not a fan of flavors like pumpkin or cinnamon, but I do have some favorites.
