Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Good Tuesday Morning!

The DIS of course :goodvibes
There‘s so many websites I’m grateful for - it’s hard to pick just 3 for this one today.

#1 - I‘m grateful for Xfinity - it has my emails, so it’s very important

#2 - I’m grateful for my banks websites - gotta keep track of the family finances

#3 - I’m grateful for Facebook - I love seeing my friends and their families on there. I keep my friend amount low, so no drama. I get so many friend requests, but if I barely know them, then I do not accept them (I don’t accept more than I accept)

3 Websites You're Grateful For:

I also feel like this is challenging, as I spend a lot of time on my phone. :rolleyes1

Google, I mean, where would I be without the ability to google things? It saves me time and mental energy, especially with DIY projects and repairs. My most googled phrase is "How to..."

DISboards! I've enjoyed my short time here and wish I had known about this online community 20 years ago. Over the years, I've been a part of other online communities and met internet strangers who became friends in person. So to find one about Disney was exciting. Thank you all for making this a kind place to spend time online. :grouphug:

Libby. It's an app on my phone that allows me to check out digital and audiobooks with my library card. I then open them in my Kindle app for easy reading on the go. I do prefer hard copies of books, but I like the ability to squeeze in a few pages here and there between tasks.

Is there talk that maybe they won't be staying intact? Now I'm nervous :worried:
Nothing has been said for certain, but I am concerned.

Cheesecake Factory's key lime is divine!
Ooooo!!! Adding that to my list of things to try!

I guess there was some sort of scandal around the founder of the podcast and travel agency that the message boards eventually spun off from?? I never did find a really clear answer (nor do I follow the podcast).
Yes, the owner of DIS and these message boards. In addition to harassment charges, he used the company AMEX to rack up a huge bill and then let it go delinquent, so they are pursuing the company for the money owed. I hope he doesn't have to sell to a larger corporation to settle the debt. This happened with GardenWeb and HOUZZ, and those fantastic message boards became a shell of their former selves. Were any of you active over there?

2. Playing Barbies with DD11 (who doesn't want anyone to know she still plays 😞)
Awwww! I think it's great she still plays with dolls. My DD9 is still very much into her dolls, and I will encourage it. Phooey to the haters!

For sure Disney. I smile because it runs in my genes. When I had asked Mom where she wanted to spend her 85th birthday she said WDW. We bought into DVC and made it happen. That was 2004.
I love the picture you shared. What a special memory!

Disney of course - they are known for their over the top IT 🤣🤣🤣😡
Bless, it is it's own version of special. But, I do wonder how much of us tinkerers make it go haywire, as I love to stalk and tweak plans. :woohoo:

Church which I listen to online worship each Sunday. Bible Gateway.
Disboards and Paperback Swap, the only two sites I am a part of forums on.
Roadrunner email.

LA Public Library as it is allows me to read thicker and heavier books on my Kindle and dad and I to get physical books, CD's and DVD's from the library.

These days, I am extra thankful also for being able to order heavy cases of Aquafina water from Ralph's via Boost home delivery. So Ralphs.com. Pavilions.com, our other grocery store, saves us each week through digital coupons as does Target Circle offers. Walmart.com and Amazon.com for sure. I also do enjoy supporting Christian Book a few times a year.

Daily I also appreciate Informed Delivery via USPS.

Great August? PollyannaMom:hug:

Hard to narrow to 3, but I'll go with:

Disboards (of course)

Facebook - similar to slo, I limit my friends, so no drama. I have found that I get a lot of information from joining groups there which takes up most of my facebook time now. I'm in groups for our MLB team, trips I'm planning, recipe groups, etc. I find them very informative and fun!

mint.com - I'm odd, but I find it interesting and fun looking to see where our money goes and planning for the future, so I get a lot of information from there.

Websites:
1. The Dis of course! It is almost the only social media I use.
2. Amazon—hate to say it, but I use it a lot and it saves me so much time.
3. Banking app—I am on the accounts that DH and I have but also on all the kid accounts. So easy to transfer money to one of the college kids when they are away. Also when one of the younger girls gets paid in cash for baby/house/pet sitting, they often give me the cash and ask me to transfer money into their account. The kids hate cash, but DH and I like to have some on hand so this works for everybody although lately people are paying with Venmo.

I am grateful for all the websites that allow me to pay my bills online. Whether it’s the site for my bank, or for a utility, or a credit card, it’s so much easier to do and to keep track of than the old days of mailing them in.

I am grateful for the websites which allow us to shop online and have things delivered. Whether it’s a website like Target or Amazon for every day items, or the plethora of websites I look through during Christmas shopping, it’s so much easier than the days of catalog shopping.

I am grateful for the DIS and other travel related websites. I used to spend a lot of time on the phone booking trips that can be done quickly online. I don’t need to buy guidebooks that are outdated almost as soon as they are printed. It really feels like the world is on my doorstep.

Apparently (other than Google itself) these are the websites I use most when on the PC:

I'm definitely grateful for all of them:

The DIS, of course! - It's so much a part of my daily routine and I consider friends I have here just as "real" as many people I know off-line.

Pinterest - That's definitely one I use a lot! So many great ideas, and a way to 1690912440445.pngwithout making actual clutter.

AccuWeather - I didn't realize quite how often I click on this one, but it's just so convenient to get weather forecasts (both long range and current radar) whenever I need them - for everything from planning trips to deciding whether I have time to use the grill before it rains. :rotfl:

Happy HUMP Day

#1 - I’m grateful that DD19 was born this month - she’s turning 2️⃣0️⃣ where has the time gone?! My baby is all grown up :cutie:

#2 - I’m grateful for more consistent hot days - hot days = pool days :beach:

#3 - I’m grateful for my flowers always looking great now - nice and full :daisy:

August:
1. Family Reunion: it’s the same weekend in August every year and has been since before I was born. It’s now a weekend thing and although there are other branches there, we mostly hang with my sisters and their families and one or two first cousins who may show up. It’s a fire late into the night, stargazing, outside games, lots of food and some adult beverages.
2. Local produce is in full swing—corn, tomatoes, zucchini, melons…yum.
3. More regular routine once school starts. I enjoy summer, but by late August I am ready for school to start back up although I will miss middle DD when she goes back to college.

Today's Topic (Tues, 8/1) - 3 Websites You're Grateful For:
I don't have a cell phone and my laptop is actually a work device, so my use of websites is somewhat limited. No videos, no movies, no games. I don't do twitter, snap chat, instagram, or most social media. SO...

DISboards- my favorite website!!
Facebook (although mostly Messenger and not FB itself, and only friends I have are people who I know IRL)
Being able to do online banking, check the grocery store sales flyers, etc.

Today's Topic (Wed, 8/2) - 3 Thing You're Grateful for about August:
August is the best time to vacation here in Maine. The crowds of tourists are lower, so it's easier to get into restaurants, find places to park, etc. The worst of the hot summer weather is over, and the ocean water is usually warmer, making the first two weeks of August a great time to take a beach vacation!

Although the heat/humidity in Florida is awful, the end of August is often when I go to Disney. My academic year hasn't yet started, but a lot of the country's public schools are back in session so crowds are lower at Disney. ALso, Disney often runs discounts on hotel rooms in late August, making the trip just slightly more affordable. I don't find the weather any worse than in June (or even late May, it seems) and have figured out ways to manage/plan around this, so I appreciate the ability to take a trip to Disney at a more affordable price- in August!

DH and our son-in-law both have August birthdays- the 15th and the 17th. CAKE!!
