Three Things...Gratitude Thread

TGIF!!! :dance3:

#1 - I’m very grateful for all the time I spent with my Grandma (RIP) during my childhood. We used to take an entire day to shop, see a movie and go to lunch all the time. She took me to Hawaii and on my first cruise. My first airplane trip was with her. She taught me how to be strong, to not wear my emotions on my sleeve, to not whine and complain, to not feel sorry for myself when a hardship comes, to keep my chin up even when I may not want to, that I’m not a delicate rose - I can handle whatever life throws at me and so much more. She was an outstanding grandma and I have so many wonderful memories with her. 🥰

#2 - I’m grateful for living in the same home next to my best friend my entire childhood. She moved in when we were 2yrs old and she’s still my friend today 49 years later.

#3 - I’m grateful for all the time I spent with my Grandpa (DH of my grandma mentioned above) (RIP). We went on bike rides, flew kites, he taught me how to play pool & ping pong, taught me certain manners & courtesies that are more old school in today’s world, doing the funny pages together in the Sunday paper and on and on and on. My grandparents were the best - I wish I could spend time with them at the age I am now. There’s so many stories I’d love to hear and conversations I’d love to have. I miss them terribly.

Good Morning hug to all and such wonderful memories each of you kindly shared, thank you. I also agree that growing up without the technology of today was a blessing. Although, looking back, the only things I might have changed were having some type of very basic prepaid phone and a way to, if not in person virtually or know how to by tv, get to church regularly.

1 Also that I was so blessed to grow up with my Grandparents both of who sure made a life saving and changing difference to me as did, of course, my Dad.

2 School was not always positive for ne mostly due to outside circumstances but I will forever be grateful to God for bringing my best friend Gigi into my life in 3rd grade which as it also happened was one year I was also gifted with a kindhearted teacher.

3 Since it is now baseball season, memories of listening to on radio or watching on Tv Dodger Games and how much that meant to me especially in more tumultous times. Dad and Grandpa and I went to games over the years together. Wish I had true memory of those times now.

As a bonus discovering the joy of reading and the refuge and comfort books bring!

This reminds me of going to the library, picking out 20 books, and having them all read by the end of the week.

My sis jokes that I would get sent to my room for misbehaving and I'd be in hog heaven with all my books!
I was the same exact way...reading until I fell asleep mid page because I did not want to put the book down lol!

Did anyone get to experience the mobile library ?? Fond memories of doing this when I was really young with my Aunt !!

:cheer2:For happy 📚memories! WDWEPCOT, :hug:grateful to God that you have those memories of time with your Aunt. I don't think I ever did get to enjoy a mobile library. In the Hallmark Christmas movie Holly and Ivy, which was so sad but truly touching as well, I think that was the movie in which the characters start a library ministry in a bus. They bring books to elderly and others not able to get to a library. Plus, enjoy visiting with the person they are delivering to. I really loved that idea. One day post or more settled Covid, I would enjoy doing something similar smaller scale. Anyone want to help? :)

It was really cool - bus full of books ❤️ came around once a week and you got on and found a book and checked it out !! Returned it next week !! Back in the 70s when we didn’t have book stores and libraries like we do now !! My Aunt lived my in town than we did so she had more options than we had - we were considered out in the country - but it was really 30 mins outside town - not like farm country 🤣🤣 no just subdivisions

1. Until I was in 7th grade, we lived in the country. I have many great memories just exploring to see what we could find. Once we found a place in the middle of nowhere that someone had hung a tire swing. We dubbed it Sesame Street and loved going back there to play

2. Lots of great memories growing up in church. My mom was the organist, so we were there a lot as she practiced with the other musicians. I always felt very special when I went (still do, but there's something different about it when you're a kid).

3. Hanging out with my cousins - My sister and I were the two youngest of the cousins generation and we got together quite a bit with my mom's sisters and families. Our cousins were always so good about including us in everything and I especially loved getting their hand-me-downs. I felt so stylish lol!

1. Family holidays—the kids’ table, everyone gathering and talking all at once, those were special times
2. Exploring the woods near my childhood home all day with the neighborhood kids. We were a bit feral in the summers.
3. Falling asleep while reading in bed on a non school night.

I just love comedy movies - old one especially I could name a bunch that I will watch over and over

I Love Lucy - watch it every day - she’s hilarious

I enjoy several Stand Up Comedians - one of my all time favorites was Robin Williams - I always thought he was so funny still do
❤️❤️

Three funny things

1. DDs sense of humor. Mama, how did you text your friends when you were on vacation? We didn't. We saw them when we got home. How did it feel growing up in the age of nothingness?

2. Snicker and Doodle, the gerbils, who race to the top of the cage when they see me. They trip all over each other. If only I was actually special and wasn't for the freeze dried strawberry treats!

3. The Three Stooges and The Golden Girls. My adult autistic nephew loves these shows and they make him so happy.

1. Stand up comedians - DH and I just saw John Crist last weekend - so funny!
2. Probably my favorite funny sitcom - The Golden Girls - DH and I used to watch one every night before bed.
3. We take Carnival Cruises and one of the things I love about them is that they have a comedy club with different shows each night, so there's a large variety for everyone!

Funny Things:
1. My DH. Even when he is annoying me he can make me laugh.
2. Middle DD. She comes across a bit like an airhead, but if you get to know her she is actually very witty in a way that makes you realize how intelligent she is.
3. Funny movies and TV shows.
