Three Things...Gratitude Thread

A quick reply to yesterday…..

#1 - I’m grateful for or pizza & pajama night every Sunday.

#2 - I’m grateful for prayers and for prayers answered.

#3 - I’m grateful for nail polish. Always makes my hands look a little nicer.

In addition to Random Acts of Kindness Day (which I'm pretty sure we've already used as s topic) today is apparently "Analog to Digital TV Day" - celebrating the switch of broadcasts (which actually happened in stages, so I'm not really sure how they came up with the date. )

Being, myself, kind of "an analog girl in a digital world" let's do:

Today's Topic (Fri 2/17) - 3 "low-tech" things you're grateful for

1. Old flip phones - convenience, but nobody was addicted yet. Heck, I might even say land lines.

2. Bicycles - when kids used to actually play

3. Card catalogs, textbooks, real books - before computers ruined it. Now kids don't/hardly know the smell of an old musty library book or the crisp pages of a new book. Remember in school when you got a brand new textbook instead of one with 6 names before you? 😂

Low tech ??
Wooden Spoons ? If this qualifies then yes ! Man oh man don’t touch my collection of wooden spoons ! I guard them like crazy ! I love cooking with them and you will get on my bad side real quick if you ruin one !!

Rubber Spatulas - see above - same but worse / many kitchen fights over this

Hand Held mixer - I much prefer this to stand up mixer - I know this is old school but I like it better and think it does better job - YMMV

I really don’t get a lot of high tech items as they break more and cost a fortune to fix but when it comes to appliances like refrigerator / stove / washer / dryer - all bets are off I want all the tech I can get !! Weird I know ! Then the darn things break shortly and I’m so mad ! Plus the maintenance is brutal but I still flock to them !! But most other things I’m low tech all the way !! I don’t want everything on my phone or an app for everything !
But I will say I used to love the House of Tomorrow at EPCOT !! That was amazing!!
Can’t wait to read others low tech !!

Edit - Books - Real hold in your hand books ! No read to me or read on iPad etc I prefer books

TGIF DIS Friend!!!

#1 - I'm grateful for my octopus looking hanger contraption thing from IKEA. It's the best for hanging bras, sports bras and at one time cloth masks.

#2 - I'm grateful for my hand held strainers. They are the best when I'm rinsing off grapes or anything small.

#3 - I'm grateful for my PotC Pez Dispensers that are sitting on my desk at work, and yes...they do have Pez candy inside them. I'll attach a picture in a few minutes.

Three low tech things . . . Difficult, since everything was once new tech when it was introduced . . .

old school digital alarm clock - I destroyed three phone batteries (and two phones) trying to use them as an alarm clock and white noise machine. I bought an “old fashioned” cheap clock on Amazon that does both jobs without worrying I’ll destroy my new phone.

fountain pens - I feel so elegant writing with a fountain pen.

base model appliances - I don’t want my appliances thinking they are smarter than I am. In fact, I don’t want them thinking at all.

Slo, pizza and pajama night sounds like a lot of fun and wonderful way to create extra memories, too.

Low tech=my preference that is for sure.

1 Prayer! Requires nothing but a humble heart of thanks to God for knowing He is listening and well pleased that you are growing your connection with Him. As I said yesterday, to me, prayer for someone is such a kind gift to give.

2 Sharing of gratitude as we do each day through this thread and with others.

3 Absolutely board and card games, puzzles and also for kids of all ages, including dad and I, activity books, physical books along with pen and paper or cards and postcards as I so enjoy sending. Remember I would always be happy to send any of you some mail of cheer. PM me :) Oh and how could I forget? Stickers that are such fun for me to share with others especially kuds and I pray use to further spread faith and fun with through the mail.

Seasonal wall and other decorations including paper plates and napkins, every day items such as frying pans to make 🥞in, too. I'm grateful to God for all.

(Thur. 2/16) - 3 things you're grateful for beginning with P
1. Pajamas (Stealing this, because I just got new ones that say "Joyful")
2. Parents -- My own, and in general
3. Pianos. Probably my favorite instrument.

(Fri 2/17) - 3 "low-tech" things you're grateful for
1. Books
2. Board/card games
3. Brain power. I mean... I can entertain myself for HOURS, if need be, just with the crazy stuff my mind comes up with. But one could also argue the brain is extremely "high tech."

I’m happy you are doing better ! If I may inquire are you pain free for the most part ?will you have to have another surgery in 20 years ? I know a lot if times these parts expire - do the replacement has to be replaced - I found that out the hard way - in my situation it impacts the disc above and below the fusion so it just keeps expanding and the arthritis keeps getting worse
I am hoping in years to come the discover better treatments than what Is currently being offered that I’m refusing to do
I did Google your condition last night and read about it - it’s very common yet I never heard of it - 1 in 1,000 births / pretty high number - that’s a lot of kids suffering ! It’s more than just you going through a bone issue and a surgery - I’m glad you have such a great outlook and are doing so well !!! Good for you such a great blessing !!!
I am almost completely pain free now, praise God! I occasionally get some brief moments of pain, and sometimes it feels a bit "tight." I also "yell" at my good hip (the one that hasn't been replaced yet) when it sometimes hurts. "Nope. Stop that. Stop it right now." Ha! When I say "brief" I do mean brief. More like very short stabs of pain. Sometimes a few in succession, and I try to just "shake it out." I don't think I've taken pain meds for the hip specifically since shortly after the surgery! I'm so glad I live in a day and age where such surgery is not only possible, but considered routine.... Though, I do distinctly remember the resident/student tellilng me "Well, with your last surgery, you don't get the cute little scars. Sorry." XD So my first surgery as a child made it slightly less "routine." But.... yeah.

Today's Topic (Fri 2/17) - 3 "low-tech" things you're grateful for

1. Campfires - I love hanging around a campfire with family or friends. Some of the best times with something that has been around for thousands of years.
2. basic indoor plumbing. I don't need the high tech sinks, toilets or showers. Give me good old fashion plumbing that has good water pressure and you could count on to work forever, and I am happy.
3. Face to face conversations. My DD spends hours talking to her friends on zoom or face time. They rarely get together outside of school and spend time together. I much prefer to hang out with a friend just talking in person or doing something together. Much nicer way to communicate!

❄️ ❄️ It actually snowed a bit here last night! ❄️ ❄️

(...which is pretty, because we haven't had much this year. Usually by mid-February, we're heartily sick of it. :rotfl2:) Anyway, in honor of the snow...

Today's Topic (Sat 2/18) - 3 white things you're grateful for

It’s the weekend - happy Saturday to all!

I have many white things I’m grateful for - the below are most important.

#1 - The first thing I immediately thought of is my white wedding dress. We had the most beautiful and perfect wedding day almost 29 years ago, which wouldn’t have been possible without our parents - God bless them for giving us an unforgettable day.

#2 - The second thing I immediately thought of is my girls white first communion dresses. They were both so beautiful as they received holy communion for the first time in their young lives.

#3 - The third thing I immediately thought of is my white childhood home of 23 years (my age when I got married and moved out). It was hard to let it go when my mom downsized and sold it 5 years ago. It’s even harder to drive by it now and see it in bad condition because the new owners don’t take care of it.
