Three Things...Gratitude Thread

IMG_7324.jpeg

Today's Topic (Wed, 3/19) - 3 things you're grateful for about your backyard (or nearest park/greenspace if you don't have a yard)

The trees that separate me from my neighbors up above me gives some privacy and a place for all those deer to hide
All the wildlife I get to see and I’ve seen a bunch over the years - still waiting for a bear to complete my wildlife bingo card
My deck to sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet and watch the bunnies or deer 🦌 roaming around while I try and find something that keeps the mosquitoes away 🤣🤣 so not grateful for those

Happy Wednesday

Sorry, I missed yesterday - I had to take my mom for a procedure at the hospital at 6 AM

I love being in my backyard so this poll is pretty easy 🙂

#1 - Our Pool - I love love love being in my pool on a nice hot sunny day. I just lay there and float float float - very relaxing!

#2 - Our Gazebo and New Furniture - we have a TV out there too so during the warm weather months, we’ll sit out there and watch TV at night. We have a screen around the gazebo to keep the bugs out. I can hardly wait to be out there again.

#3 - Large Decks - DH built two large decks in our back. One is around the pool and one the gazebo sits on. Now that my kids are older I don’t need as large of a deck as I have around the pool, but when they were younger, it was the greatest thing ever.

Trees - They're sort of a blessing and a curse. I love the shade and cooling benefits they provide. They also are an inviting space for birds in our yard. The curse is during wind storms when I live in fear of them coming crashing down.

Green Belts - Our house does not back on one, but many of our neighbors have backyards that back on our green belts. Some people have even built in gated access from their yards so that they don't have to take a street to jump on at a main access point. Still, these belts are kind of like this hidden pedestrian/bike highway to get you all over town while also (primarily) keeping you immersed in the woods or along bodies of water. The only catch is that you're technically not allowed to be on them after dark/before dawn. They remain unlit to provide safe haven for local wildlife. To be perfectly honest, with some of the stuff that comes out after dark, I'm not sure I'd want to be in there.

Size - While our last home was nearly brand new when we bought it and had lots of modern looks and features, newer construction here almost always comes with a considerably smaller yard...even in the really nice subdivisions. Older construction comes with significantly larger yard space. Our first home was built in the 50s and while it was fairly close to town, it still had a massive yard. We're now in a more distant burb, but our current house was built in the early 70s and also has a big backyard. We have an easement, so we can't really do much of anything permanent in it, but it's nice to have a large space for our dog and it's great for more temporary outside enjoyment.

For this one I will have to go back in time to my childhood home. (Much better than our overgrown deck that has seen better days)

It was a big suburban backyard and I have many good memories (except for stepping on a wasp!)
Badminton and croquet games
A pool (not built in, one of those stand alones)
A convenient short cut through an opening in the hedges bordering the neighbors behind us
(I have recently reconnected with that neighborhood friend on FaceBook!)

Happy Thursday

#1 - Putting Away The Winter Coat - it’s always a happy time when I ‘m able to take my winter coat and shove it in the closet until next winter.

#2 - Buying Flowers - I enjoy buying flowers and planting them. It’s always nice to have some color around the outside of the house.

#3 - Having Everything Look Alive Again - one thing that drives me crazy about winter is that everything looks dead. I love it when the trees start to get buds on them, the daylilies and hostas start to pop out of the ground, and everything shows signs of living

It's not quite spring here yet, but days in the 40s promise good things to come!

Flowering bulbs- so pretty, after such a long "dead" period.

It's finally warm enough- and light enough- to go walking in the early morning. (IMO, daylight savings time started too soon. I HATE waking up in the dark again. Give it another month...)

The semester is almost over.

The trees come alive again
The flowers 🌼
Birds I seen a robin the other day so happy hummingbirds will be back soon can’t wait
All the baby animals baby bunnies baby deer 🦌 the baby deer are so adorable it’s so much fun dealing with the mothers they’re not adorable🤣🤣🤣🤣😳😳😳
Hopefully my grass will grow🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ currently my backyard has a lot of mud spots thanks to the deer and possibly my dog
Most grateful that winter is over and we won’t see anymore of that dreaded ice and snow ❄️

Good morning friends,

I've missed all of you and this kind thread. Thank each of dear you with all my heart for all your prayers and care. By God's mercy and love, I continue to recover. I pray to be back to normal sometime this Spring. I may not post daily but will try to check in several times a week :)

Spring is my very favorite season for Easter. Celebrating my Savior Jesus' miracle to me anew is such a blessing. This year as God renews me in health, this holy time means all the more.

Flowers and trees blooming fresh and colorful along with new life are such poignant reminders to me of God's Presence in all and everywhere.

Days becoming lighter and longer bring me joy of bright days ahead.

Hugs to all.
