Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I am grateful the cat did NOT wake me up at 4:30 this morning.

I will be grateful to drive home while it's still light out much more often.

I'm grateful that's it's easier to physically change the clocks for this one than in the fall.
These are really good things to be grateful for about “Springing Forward”.

I am grateful the cold, dark, and dreary days are gone. Still cool, but it’s only getting better.

Daylight savings signals that Spring is around the corner. For that I’m grateful. April, May, and June are my favorite months. Not too hot. Not too cold.

I’m grateful with all the talk of eliminating Daylight Savings, it’s still here. It takes a few days to adjust, but longer evenings mean that soon I’ll be putting on shorts after work and being outside more after work! ⏰☘️🌷😊🩴🐝🐞🐛

Confusion that never stops
Closing walls and ticking clocks
Gonna come back and take you home

MAYBE daylight savings time, he thought, doesn't come from a store
Maybe daylight savings time..... perhaps ....means a little bit more

Arizona... instead of being the Grand canyon State..it should be the Grand chasm State... every year we make the news with Hawaii...the Gadsden flag flies high here... even a school has the name....we have plastic bags, plastic straws..no free recycling on the curb...no helmet on motor cycle.... and vehicle registration is super cheap.... because the population in winter increases by 500%.....so yeah gratitude that California is back on our time schedule

Today's Topic (Mon, 3/10) - 3 things you or have been grateful for at lunch (foods, lunchboxes, places you go, coworkers you eat with... whatever)

So many great lunches over the years -
We used to have a once a month on Fridays we would pick a bar that served food and have lunch and a couple drinks 🍹 or a patio lunch when weather was nice - come back just in time to go home !! 🏠

The many pot lucks at work - 100 women all bringing a dish and all of us judging their cooking 🤣🤣 the many different ways people make the same item and how it taste. Getting to try new things from other cultures

Finding new places to eat - some good some bad - but all making memories of the antics we were up to !! Oh the stories I could tell 🤣🤣🤣 such great fun !! Very grateful for the many work lunches I’ve been to over the past 40 years

1960s I had a Flintstones lunch box sister had the yellow dome Disney school bus box.... Mom snapped a photo of that first morning to school.... our eyes squinting into the sun with our new clothes...of course the photo was not about us... but the beautiful blooming desert bush.. behind and towering over us. couldn't waste color film just on your children

1970s father had an industrial accident..we were poor so moved to Oregon and as children we worked in the strawberry harvest and pole bean harvest ...no food stamps but there was the USDA food program. Mom would make us lunch with thick cold slices of the canned spam pork and cheese while our peers had a Twinkie, bag of chips, candy bars and soda... these are the collective memories of my sister and I

2025 on the shelf now sit a KROFFT supershow lunchbox, h.r. puffin stuff, Sigmund and the Sea monster and a Muppets lunch box... I always wanted to be a puppeteer

BLUE-
Balega socks- my first pair of Balega running socks were blue. They quickly became my favorite and I bought them in numerous color combos. I have never had a single blister with this variety and they last. I have the original blue pair on right now that I bought back in 2019 and they still look like new and have great padding/cushioning and compression.
Skies- We had some really pretty weather this weekend with vibrant blue skies. I went for a nearly 9 mile walk on Saturday and close to 7.5 yesterday. So it was nice to be out in it to enjoy.
Sheets- I recently bought a new pair of sheets in a soothing gray blue color. They are super comfy.

Oregon-
Goal State- I have nine US states I have not visited. Oregon is one of them. So, it's nice to think of it as one of the goal places on my list to travel (once my life doesn't revolve around travel ball).
Crater Lake NP- This will be one of my primary focal points whenever I do make it to Oregon, as I am forever on a quest to visit as many National Parks as possible.
Voodoo Doughnuts- This fun chain originated in Oregon.

Daylight Savings Time-
Body Clock- My body has been waking up early the last couple of months. I had been waking sometime between 4-5am each day. By springing forward, it's now closer to the normal time to get up. I got to sit in bed and relax for about 30 minutes this morning, rolled out around 6:30, got in a shorter pre-work walk and it all felt really normal.
Alert- Because of gratitude point #1, I feel much more alert right now than usual. I guess because it was no longer me being up so early that I was trying to get back to sleep.
Tired on time- I found myself tired on time last night because of the change. I was in bed just before 10 and dozed off at a more normal hour.

Lunch-

Hot Thermos- I remember when these became all the rage. You knew you were special if your mom heated up something before school to fill up your thermos. Everyone else was eating sandwiches while you had hot soup, mac & cheese, ravioli, or Spaghettios.

Cute/cool lunchboxes- I can't remember all of mine, but I had a few that stood out that I really loved. My first one was shaped like Snoopy's dog house. After that, I believe I had a Muppets one and there was that year that I had to have the Clash of the Titans themed lunch box.

Tax Season Lunches- Back in my early days in Corporate America our company would cater our lunches on a daily basis during the spring. Tax season was always such a beast and we'd be working increased hours, so our floor kitchen/dining space would turn into a big buffet each day. It was everything from fajita bar, bbq, or Chinese to gourmet pizzas, burger bar, or salad bar days (just to name a few). Oh, and there were always cookies and brownies as well as leftovers to bring home for dinner.

I'm too behind, and too busy, to catch up!
Lunch things-

Pot lucks at work. I work in a department that has many international students and faculty, and I LOVE it when they bring their favorite dishes from home to share with us.

DD still asks me to make her lunch. We are a multi-generational family under one roof but she never presumes that I'll do this for her. As for me... I love that my daughter still wants me in her life!

Blue Plate Specials. I didn't know what to call this, but at lunch in this area, lots of restaurants run one dish, each day, at a special discount at lunch time.

IT'S A CHAIN NOW 🤯 🤯 🤯 🤯?????

Crater lake...50 years... never been... can't fish there.. HOWEVER.... little Crater lake is below Mt Hood on the PCT... you can drive to it...put your feet on the trail... bragging cred

And if you can walk nine miles up hill and are a spiritual person.. spend 5 minutes at Crater lake Park and head north to Mt. Jefferson trail Head and hiking to Mt Jefferson Park... most beautiful place on the PCT...even Crater doesn't get that vote

My favorite things about lunch are:
It’s a quiet time for me. At work (school) I never ate with the faculty, not anti-social, just hate talking while I’m eating! Anyhow, I have always eaten lunch by myself, reading a good book, eating a sandwich and having a piece of dark chocolate for dessert. Also, drinking an iced coffee, which is my leftover morning coffee put to good use! :)

Yup! Not sure exactly when they branched out but they're sprouting up all over. We have seven in TX, including three in the greater Houston area. Of course, none of them are close to my little area of the burbs.

For me, it's all about appreciating the natural wonders, photography, and wildlife. Hopefully I'll get out there one day but for now, my travel is dictated by wherever the kids need to travel for their endeavors.

Love the color purple and painted rooms purple I currently have one purple right now absolutely love the shade
I am grateful I found a shade of purple to paint one of my rooms in my house
And grateful for all my purple clothing
And grateful for my purple sneakers
I’m especially grateful for my ratty old purple sweater it’s been a faithful companion for 40 years now

Lunch-related:
  • When my mom used to pack my lunch for field trips as a kid
  • Tuesday and Friday lunches out at a particular summer job I had
  • That when I was a substitute teacher, we were made very welcome in the lounge with the regular teachers for lunch (apparently that's not always the case 🙁 )

Purple things:
  • My hydrangeas
  • A vacation souvenir T-shirt
  • Grape juice

Wow I forgot about hydrangeas...at the Oregon estate I lived on for 20 years had hydrangeas that I believe to be over 50 years old if not older..all 3 the size of a VW beetle. They were growing in shade all year round against the house and were never watered...award winning they were... eventually we stopped entering them at State Fair... what do you do with all those purple ribbons???

I'm not much of a purple person, so I am going to have to go with what's around me that just happens to be purple.

What I Love About Mom book - A number of years ago, DD18 got this little book and filled in all of the pages with what she loves about me. It happens to be purple.

Amethyst Jewelry - It's not really my thing, but when I was going through a recent rough patch, a friend suggested stones and crystals. I wasn't going to go out of my way to buy anything, but I grabbed whatever jewelry I had in some of the stones she suggested and put them on my desk. Not sure if they do anything, but they can't hurt.

Can of Waterloo Blackberry Lemonade Sparkling Water - I'm a big fan of sparkling water and this flavor sitting on my desk right now (which has a lot of dark purple on the can for the blackberries) is one of my favorites.

I’ve always loved the book, Harold and the Purple Crayon

My go-to color for T-shirts has always been navy blue, but in the last few years I’ve gravitated towards purple. Which reminds me, I better take my purple Pi day shirt out of my dresser so I don’t forget to wear it!

When my daughter wanted to paint her room in high school (actually, I did most of it!) we had them mix the colors until it was the purplish blue that matched the living room on Friends.
