Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before but it’s worth mentioning again at least I think it is for my perspective my wonderful Aunt ❤️❤️❤️ I miss her so much she died way too young and she never got to meet my kids they would have loved her I know I sure do

The wonderful woman I used to babysit for as I have gotten older and experienced life I look back on things and think about everything that poor woman was going through when I was babysitting for her and you never would have known it and I don’t know how she did it it just speaks volumes for the character and qualities that she possessed she provided me unmeasurable help in ways that didn’t seem like she was but she was without me telling her my situation she picked up on it and she always found ways to get me out of my house even though she was going through so much at the time
All my girlfriends- the ones who listen to me and tell me straight up how it is or just listen then tell me to get over it 🤣🤣 seriously I couldn’t survive without them ❤️❤️❤️😊😊😊

My best friend, my sister-in-law. Our phone conversations are so long that we have to schedule them in advance.

My mother in-law, RIP. She welcomed me into the family and was motherly in a way I had not experienced before.

When I was young I was obsessed with Amelia Earhart and read every biography on her I could find.

My niece and I do the same. We both love the predictability!

My Mom - I didn't have her here for as long as I would have liked, but she was amazing and made my childhood really special.

My MIL - for all the family gatherings she has orchestrated, the ready advice when DS was a baby...and for teaching DH to iron his own shirts.

New Jersey - While my family bounced around due to job related matters (including moving away from the Garden State less than a month before I was born), it will always be what I consider my 'home state.' Oh, and if you've never been and don't understand why it's the Garden State...find yourself some real NJ tomatoes and sweet corn. 🍅🌽

New York - When I was growing up, going into "the city" was the biggest treat. That was "New York" for so much of my life. Trips to the Catskills later turned it into some of my vacation world. Then came college, where it became a place to live during one of the most exciting and memorable parts of my life. I❤️NY!

Naps - 😴 My sleep schedule has been really off of late. I tried not giving into naps and some days it does help me sleep through the night. Still, some days I just need a nap and I'm so grateful for nap time during either my lunch or right after work...especially if I got in my walk in the morning.

It's SNOWING ❄️❄️❄️☃️☃️☃️🏔️🏔️🏜️🏞️🏞️

Nebulous clouds are flowing over the peaks like a thunderstorm or Niagara falls, filling the niches that can no longer hold water

Nostalgia I am..so very Oregon now never ending sprinkles and cold nerve soaking storms

Naiad nymph I so much want to be naked in the dry river bed to be newly washed by the flood 🌊 🌊 💦 💦 💦

Nostrils filling with Petrichor

Surprisingly, I don't remember their ice cream. I see it was a big deal, but the only time we ever went there was when my mom was craving their fried clam strips. While we don't have it here, I read that Giffords ice cream is who supplied HoJo. So, I guess if you have access to theirs, it's part of what were their famous 28 flavors.

Nihilism: nah, just kidding. It just popped into my head

Nephews and nieces
Nuts and seeds. Eat them every day
Normal, as in the doctor saying Your tests were all normal :) (happened today at my pulmonologist’s)

And I loved Northern Exposure, especially Marilyn

My paternal grandmother's pie crust - The only other person who was able to duplicate it was my uncle, and he passed a few years ago. I have never had a pie since then that has crust like this. I'm really not sure what kind of magic was in there but it was crispy, flaky, and more delicious than anything I've ever had on other people's pies. Instead of a wedding cake, my uncle had her make tons of pies for his wedding. I was young...maybe 4, but I slipped into the kitchen unnoticed and ate the crust off of ALL of the wedding pies. I was so proud of myself...and got into SOOOOOO MUCH TROUBLE!

Flavors/Seasons - I love how pies often reflect the season. Sure, you could eat certain things year round, but berry pies often meant that berries were in season while pumpkin pies meant that there was a fresh crop of pumpkins outside. Things like mincemeat pies tasted like the holidays, citrus pies like lemon and key lime taste like summer, and cream pies taste like a picnic.

Savory pies - We often tend to think of the sweet stuff but there are all kinds of savory pies that can serve as your meal. I have images from the Great British baking show running through my head with short crust meat based pies but we also can't forget things like quiche.

Who doesn’t love pie 🥧 🥧🥧

To me pie signals holidays
Your pumpkin pie Thanksgiving
Your apple pie 🥧 Christmas
Your strawberry pie Fourth of July
It’s an American thing we have pie for holidays and I’m very grateful for pie it’s one of my favorite desserts
Chocolate pie
Banana cream pie
Boston cream pie
I can go on and on
But my most favorite pie is mincemeat❤️❤️ and since most people don’t like it I get the whole thing to myself❤️❤️ I’m very grateful for that
