Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Layered things I'm grateful for:

🎂 Cake - I just went to a birthday party last weekend, and the cake was especially good!

🇮🇹 Lasagna - I rarely make it anymore because of the carbs and DH's diabetes, but I have fond memories of my grandma teaching me how to make it.

and another vote for Layering Clothes - I get cold easily, so I leave zip up hoodies and cardigans around the house like some people leave extra pairs of reading glasses

Tuesday :hug:to all

Holy Bible above all else.

I enjoy reading Christian nonfiction books of short stories.

I also find pleasure reading Love Inspired Christian romance books. Just the regular line. I'm not into Amish, Historical, or Suspense series within this line. A favorite I recently reread is Rainbow's End by Irene Hannon. A fun family Christmas story is The Mistletoe Reunion by Anna Schmidt.

James Herriot books are so endearing. I haven't read any in years and need to read an Ebook version of All Creatures Great and Small, the first book and I think my favorite.

Of course, children's books can bring joy and healing, good memories too. Some of my very favorites are the first Baby-sitter Club book, Kristy's Great Idea by Ann Martin, the Boxcar Children (book 1) by Gertrude Chandler Warner and the My Secret Unicorn series by Linda Chapman. Have any of you read those? :)

Happy 📚to all!

I don’t think I have a single book I’m grateful for as I’m so grateful for all books - I’m grateful I can read them and I’m grateful I can pick any book I want to read !

I so enjoyed reading to my kids nightly when they were little so grateful I got to do that - we found so really enjoyable books to read I have some very fond memories and one child kept a few of the books even thou said child is not going to have kids - kept them because they were so enjoyable

I have very fond memories of a teacher who read to us every day in school- we were in 6th grade and she read for about an hour to us every day ! She went thru the Little House on the Prairie series - amongst others I so enjoyed this !!! I have read those books several times since

I’m grateful both my parents were readers and we always had books in the house - my mother was in a book club where you purchased books every month and back then you got a flyer at school to purchase books - we always had books to read - we were never limited on what we could read - hence why I was reading Stephen King at such a young age and Jacqueline Susann who I was sad to find out was deceased and had no more books as I enjoyed reading her books - I would just read whatever my mother had so I got a wide variety of books

So I’m grateful for books in general
School Books to teach us things
How To Books - again to teach us things
Therapy Books - to help us with issues
Biographies - to learn about people
Historical - I love history
Stephen King - gotta have some dark horror And no one does it better than Mr. King ymmv
Bible - yup I read it
All my Disney books ❤️❤️
As I said before I’m grateful I live somewhere where I can just pick anything I want to read and I’m grateful I know how to read you’d be shocked how many people in this country cannot read

Yeah... this is a hard one. I'm going to generalize somewhat:

Harry Potter series. It's rare when there are books that three generations can discuss over the dinner table, but this series accomplished that. We all read the books before we saw the movies, and loved sharing and talking about what we'd read.

Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. I love these for the humor and lightness, but also because they are well written mysteries.

Biographies... especially autobiographies. I love learning about who people were and how they became the notable personalities we knew.

Favorite authors include John Sanford, James Patterson, Jonathan Kellerman.

My favorite as well! (And tomorrow is Harry's birthday, so everyone remember you have an excuse to celebrate!)

For my other two, I'm going to go non-traditional:

The baby journals I kept when DS was small - Someone gave me a really cute blank book instead of the traditional fill-in-the-blank type, and I wrote entries from his perspective. It's so sweet to look back on!

and this cook book:

...because it's the one I remember my mom having when I was little, and when a new edition came out, DH noticed and got me one.

I hope each of you are enjoying a good book right now :)
At any given time, I tend to have several books going - fiction, non-fiction, an "upstairs book", something on Kindle, on Audible... :rotfl:
I'm currently reading, or listening to:
The Alchemyst (Michael Scott)
I'd Like to Apologize to Every Teacher I Ever Had (Tony Danza)
Oceans Apart: Stories of Overseas Evacuees in World War Two (Penny Starns)
Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions (Brian Christian & Tom Griffiths)
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (J. K. Rowling)... again :teeth:

Too many to choose from!! I am also a multi-book reader, upstairs book, lunchtime book, morning book, etc.

Currently enjoying the complete Sherlock Holmes. It is like Nancy Drew for grown-ups!

The Harry Potter series, which I have been re-reading in order for many years now, just before going to sleep. Currently on Book7, my favorite.

I think I will go off on a tangent here and say that I am grateful for all the WDW Guides I have read over the years, especially the Birnbaum ones (mostly for the pictures) and the Unofficial Guides.

And honorable mention has to go to my Stephen King collection. I used to re-read them before going to sleep before I read the HP series. I still re-read ‘Salems Lot every fall, but mostly I just try to keep up with his latest.

1. Boston—my DH had a long term work assignment there when oldest DD was 2. We went with him and lived in an apartment in Malden. She liked to go places and so we went everywhere I thought would be interesting for both of us. We did beaches and parks and museums and science centers. Our complex had a pool and we made lots of friends. It was one of my favorite years. I had so much fun with her.
Boston! I am a lifelong Red Sox fan from afar. My son and I made the trip to Boston in 2017 to visit Fenway Park for the first time. We went to 5 consecutive games and it was a trip of a lifetime. From the many years of watching the games on TV, to my son meeting his hero, Mookie Betts, sitting atop the Green Monster, singing Sweet Caroline. I could go on and on.

I love the genre of spies, CIA, etc. I am currently reading Mark Greaney, the most recent book about The Gray Man. Ugh, I have so many piled up that I need to read. When I see them at Costco I just buy them knowing I will eventually get to them. It will be sad when Costco no longer carries books come January. Kinda like when they stopped selling DVD's.

I’ll think about healthy tomorrow. So, books for now…

The Harry Potter series comes to mind, but it was really Goblet of Fire that got me hooked.

I’m a fan of Kurt Vonnegut. Cat’s Cradle was what really got me reading.

I also like Stephen King. IT got me reading, but it was The Stand that really dragged me into his work.

Honorable mention to Roget’s Thesaurus. As a kid, it opened a world of alternatives for writing and overall expression.
