Three Things...Gratitude Thread

So apparently I posted yesterday and still missed yesterday's prompt.

Today's Topic - 3 things you're grateful for beginning with the letter N
(Totally stealing some answers again)
1. National Parks
2. my Niece
3. Nature

(Wed, 10/11) - 3 old things you're grateful for
1. Hymns!
2. My grandmother lived to be 96. She finally admitted she MIGHT be getting old when she was 95 (story at the end)
3. Creation

Story:
So this past weekend, my high school had a special alumni event. It's the last year in the current building, to they had a "Final walk though" event (even though they are now actually doing an "open house" in the spring without the special events). Over 3,000 people signed up. We could walk through the building, and they had speakers and special displays, and it was really cool. I was on yearbook/publications staff when I was in high school. I was able to stop by the "PubHub" and talk to the advisor's daughter. This is the amazing advisor who started my Senior year, and has led the publications department to be among the top in the nation. Anyway, while I was at this event and talking to the advisor's daughter, I noticed they had all the old papers bound into books. She helped me find the article I wrote for the 9/11 special edition of the paper about my grandmother, who remembered WW1. She was 95 at the time I wrote the article, and passed a little over a year after 9/11/01 at the age of 96. While I think I still have a physical copy of that somewhere, I have no idea where it is, and it was SO NICE to be able to get a picture of it so I have a digital copy.

Old things...

>Quilts- Made for me when I was born, by my nana and great grandmother, made for DH and me for our wedding, by my sister/BIL.

>Random pieces of china. My grandparents had a friend who was a china dealer. He went to people's homes with a big barrel full of display pieces of Limoges, Haviland, etc. When patterns were retired, he'd give the pieces to my grandparents, which went to my mom and now to me. I have chocolate pots, teacups/saucer, serving plates/platters, demitasse cups, salad plates, etc. Nothing matches, and as we use some of it, it's getting worn, but i love having it.

>My cousin, Ginger. She is 87 and still active and "with it." There was a schism in our family after my father died and my mother made sure to keep the distance. After 30 years, we reached out to each other and now I'm back in contact with ALL my cousins on my father's side of the family. Ginger is the oldest, and I discovered recently that she is also one of my godmothers; I thought only my great aunt, on my mother's side of the family, was my godmother. I am always, ALWAYS grateful that our family is reunited, and that Ging is still with us to enjoy it. One of my dearest memories is from several years ago, watching Ginger and my daughter walking down the driveway, arm in arm, chatting away with each other!

ETA: I forgot that I have some jewelry that belonged to my grandmother, great aunt, and great grandmother. Also some crystal dessert dishes that my MIL received as a wedding present in 1954.

(Yesterday's) Old Things:

Another vote for china - we have DH's grandmother's and my great-grandmother's, so a few pieces of each are on display in the hutch.

Antiques - it's so fun to browse flea markets and shops and just feel all that history!

I love the trees answer too!

And something I saw on Instagram the other day about a day care center and a senior center that share a building. They get the kids together with the old folks for sing-alongs and activities, and I think that's just such a wonderful idea for both!

(Today's) Starting with H:

My House/Home - I'm so grateful to have a safe, comfortable place to live, and I love the town and neighborhood it's in!

Health - So easy to take for granted when we've got it, so missed when we don't!

And of course, Harry Potter (which inspired the letter choice when I looked at the holiday calendar this morning) - I love the books, movies, parks...all if it! In fact, I just got a new puzzle made up of different Harry Potter covers. 📚🧩

Good Morning!

My home and health are definitely at the top of the list.
Additional 3 things….

#1 - I’m grateful for my DD20’s home runs - she’s worked really hard to be the power hitter that she is.

#2 - I’m grateful for my hands - I can’t imagine living without them.

#3 - I’m grateful for Heaven - I pray every day that God will open His heavenly gates for me when my time here on earth is done.

(Thurs, 10/12) - 3 things you're grateful for beginning with the letter H:

1. My husband - he can be a pain at times lol, but I'm glad he's mine.
2. I'll second (or third) my home - so grateful to have it and enjoy it.
3. Helpers - there are people everywhere who like to help others. I try to be one when needed.

(Thurs, 10/12) - 3 things you're grateful for beginning with the letter H
1. Home
2. Heaven
3. Harper Lee, as in the author of "To Kill a Mocking Bird." Something else I was looking at online the other day made me think of it. So I asked my oldest brother (I live with my mom and oldest brother) if we had a copy downstairs. He said no. So today, my mom is walking to the park and they have a "Free Little Library" there. There just happened to be a copy of "To Kill a Mockingbird" in there, even the same purple cover I remember. It's like God was like, "Okay. Here you go. Yes, I care even about the small things in your life." and it just really made me smile.
