Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Happy Saturday!

I had a great childhood - so many great memories❤️

#1 - I’m grateful for my Chrissy doll - my BFF (she’s still my BFF) and I both had her. I should ask her if she still has hers. Mine is safely tucked away on the shelf in a downstairs closet.

#2 - I’m grateful for my parents old sheets - my BFF and I would attach them to our front porch railing with close pins to make a tent. Or we would set up tons of lawn chairs in the backyard and attach the sheets to those. We were always in homemade tents.

#3 - I’m grateful for the massive Barbie house my Dad built me - he put carpet, tile, wallpaper and more in it. The thing was huge and a 1000 lbs. if there was ever a tornado, the real house would collapse, but the Barbie house would still stand - LOL!

I'm grateful that my parents always bought us creative toys - art supplies, Legos, etc.

I'm grateful to have lived near the library at a critical age. 📚

I'm grate for elderly neighbors, who taught my brother and I a lot about being part of a community.

And bonus - I'm grateful to have been a child in the 70's and 80's - before a lot of the tech we have now!

I am grateful for my aunt Rosa crafts for us to do
I’m grateful for the same aunt who would take us to the mobile library to pick up books
I am grateful for the same aunt who would pack us these really nice lunches so we could go on safari and her big yard
It was always fun going to her house and doing things with her I miss her so much

Three things I’m grateful for about my childhood:
- my family, and large extended family, especially cousins.
- that my parents supported my creative desires & nurtured my artistic talent
- that we didn’t skirt around issues and had open and honest communications. It didn’t prevent the issues, but grateful we felt safe to discuss things and ask questions.

Three things I am grateful for about my childhood.
I had an amazing childhood and grew up overseas where my parents worked (we are American citizens) and traveled extensively throughout my childhood.
I had wonderful friends and since I was an only child, my parents always let me bring a friend along on vacations that didn't require an airplane ride.
I was encouraged to pursue my passions.

(Sat, 10/14) - 3 things that you're grateful were part of your childhood

I'm grateful to have grown up a in the country. My friends and I had so much fun exploring!

I'm grateful my parents raised me in church. It definitely set the scene for my entire life.

I'm grateful that I lived near all of my cousins. None of my aunts and uncles moved away, so we were fortunate to have a close extended family.

Got to go a couple times to Disneyland as it was then.
Favorite teachers, who instilled an appreciation of American history and other academic subjects.
Lots of great TV shows: Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood, original Bob Newhart Show, Partridge Family, original Star Trek reruns, etc.

I appreciate that so many people here said the library. I usually try not to repeat the answers of others, but I'm glad so many of us when growing up, valued the library.

I'm thankful my parents bought a house in a safe area, in a great neighborhood that was full of young families. There was a whole bunch of kids around to play with, and we'd roam from yard to yard without an adult following us around. I was also free to take my bike and go exploring for hours on end.

I'm glad I grew up in a time when parents weren't terrified that their kids would get snatched. I don't know if it happened less frequently back then or if we are just more aware of it now, but I had all kinds of freedoms to play, adventure, roam, be home alone, etc. I think we learned more self-responsibility and self-reliance than kids do these days.

I'm grateful my grandparents had a summer cottage in southern Maine, near the beach, and we could go visit as a family for weeks- or months- at a time in the summer. I didn't appreciate it then, because what kid wants to leave their friends at home in the summer and go someplace where they didn't know anyone, but jeez... beach days, climbing apple trees, reading whenever we wanted, cousins and neighbors visiting and playing in the pool and around the BBQ... such great times. There were also a plethora of summer job options for high schoolers, regular, full-time summer jobs where you could put away some real money instead of just babysitting. BIGGEST financial mistake my siblings and I ever made was selling that property after my mom died.

We lived in Newark, NJ, not far from the Oranges, and Dad drove us up to the Reservation up there where you could feed carrots to the deer. We went to Cameron Field to the Duck Pond and went ice skating. Dad was from Bayonne, and when we went to visit grandparents and cousins, we enjoyed activities there, ice skating, roller skating, archery in summer. Mom never drove, so she taught us how to take busses. Yes, early in life, around 12 years old, I would take three busses to get me from Newark to Bayonne. Different times.
Four things..
Dad’s part in my life.
Activities with others.
A sense of independence, fostered by mom.
Grandfather’s reverence for education!
These are the blessings I am most grateful for.

:grouphug:extra to all and thank you for your lovely shares. My own childhood was not always happy or safe. I was also blessed in many ways! Extra grateful it sounds like a lot of you have happy memories that is a blessing indeed. Have a good evening, friends.

Childhood:
1. Grandparents—I was close to both sets and they were a constant, steadying presence.
2. Good schools—I got a good education in public schools that prepared me well for college and working.
3. Holidays and vacations—my mom struggled a lot with what I suspect was undiagnosed depression, but she always managed to make holidays/birthdays and vacations special.

Good Sunday Morning!

#1 - I’m grateful for being a Lector (also known as a Lay Minister) at church - I’ve been doing this now for 16 years and I love being a part of the Mass and proclaiming God’s word to those that came to that Mass.

#2 - I’m grateful for Love - all sorts of love. I believe that I’m a very loving person - I enjoy giving love and receiving love. I would feel empty and deflated without it.

#3 - I’m grateful for my Life - every day I thank God for my life, even with all the bumps and bruises that come with it. Every one can look at someone else’s life and think the grass is greener over there, but they have bumps and bruises too. So the best thing to do is to make the best out of your life and thats what I try to do every day.
