Three Things...Gratitude Thread

Travel - I love to go to new places and visit historic sites and see other cultures and ways people live - from going to their grocery stores to just everyday things and visiting their landmarks

Funny to see someone else talking about visiting grocery stores while out of town. We were fortunate enough to be able to visit DD2 when she studied abroad in Australia. When I wanted to go to one of their grocery stores, DH thought I was crazy. I just wanted to see how different it was from ours lol!

3. I'm a magazine subscriber to maybe 15 a month. I don't read them. Just throw the in a stack and take to my parents. I doubt they read them either!
I used to get tons of magazines too (not sure about 15 a month though lol) and I actually used to read them, but I think social media outlets have kind of taken the place of the information I got from them lol! Times sure do change!!

My Geeky things:

1. I'm in the CC thread and love "playing the game" to get CC points for travel. DH and I have had a lot of free / reduced cost travel from this hobby of mine. It does take time and most people would probably think it's over the top and too time consuming, but I love it!

2. I'm going to add the math one too - honestly it helps in the CC game above. It's the only class I felt comfortable helping my kids with all the way through high school. I always told them, I probably can't help with writing research papers too much anymore, but I can still do math lol!

3. For my third, I'll put a semi-related one of bargain shopping. I love a good bargain - I follow a few deals blogs and get super cheap things at walgreens, cvs, etc to donate quite a bit to our local food banks. Most of that stuff is toiletries, but our local ones like getting that stuff too, so I stock up for awhile and take a bunch of stuff at once.

Sport - I did lots of sports as a kid - would like to get involved much more now, tbh. Still, I love watching things like tennis (esp. Wimbledon); the Super Bowl; the Olympics; cricket T20s; gymnastics etc. etc. In tennis, I'd really like to see another Nadal vs. Djokovic match. (I'm so glad to have enjoyed the Federer/Nadal/Djokovic/Murray era.)

Sporcle, Wordle etc. - Especially the geography and language challenges. If I have a few minutes online, I try to do a quiz rather than too much social media. :D ETA: Some of you have mentioned Maths. - much respect! I'm more of a language girl.

Travel, including Disney, but not just.

I also like being out in nature - walking, gardening, cycling, relaxing...

Oh! And interior design. The internet has really opened up that world.

Count me in as another who like to explore grocery stores abroad! It's not just about the big tourist attractions. ...Though, those are fun/interesting, too.

I'm still after a (first!) trip to Target!

FRENCH

Foods : Croutons, Croissants, Cheese Fondue.

Language: It's a quite lyrical language to speak and there are many French phrases we use in English... Cul-de-sac Cinema Silhouette Savoir-faire Bon vivant Apéritifs Hors d’œuvres

The fact that it's just a hop, skip and jump away! I've seen much more of North America than I have of France, but one of these days...

For today's topic, I'm researching a little of the French influence in my area (St Louis), so I'll go with:

1. St Louis was founded by the French
2. The flag of St Louis has the fleur-de-lis on it
3. Laclede's Landing was named after the French explorer Pierre Laclede. It is a nine block area in the heart of Downtown St Louis not too far from the Arch. Truthfully, I haven't been there for awhile, so I hope it's as vibrant of an area as it used to be. I always loved going to eat at the Spaghetti Factory there!

From yesterday, Hobbies, fandoms, or special interests

1 I do enjoy writing and pray that any words I write are of good service to God.
2 Definitely books, Disney, and I also enjoy souvenir shops.

3 Covid has reinforced to me the importance of cherishing and making memories and that to me joy truly is every moment we are blessed with in life. Dad and I are putting a scrapbook together of pictures that God willing one day will extend to some very local places out here such as ::MickeyMoand on a Dodger Stadium Tour⚾I still am looking for a Christmas ornament stand that can hold multiple ornaments and is more Christmas Tree like in shape rather than just an A frame or metallic looking. I would prefer it to be wooden and tabletop. We would love to each year add an ornament that represents a memory. I would appreciate always any suggestions for where to find such a thing!

From today, I'm not very versed on French culture or its relationship with the US. I do, of course, appreciate the country's friendship with the US! I maybe once years ago had an elderly friend who I volunteered with at a Discovery Shop, named Irmgard who was French. Otherwise, the main clear memory of a French (Canadian that is) person I have known is off a college professor years ago who was definitely memorable. Perhaps not my favorite professor for different reasons but I admired her spunk.

(Mon, 7/10) - 3 furry friends you are/were grateful for
1. All the random cute doggies I see when I walk in the park
2. The Rally Squirrel that ran across home plate during a Cardinals post season game back in 2011... He became an unofficial mascot, got immortalized on the World Series championship rings that year, and now I write "letters" on Facebook "to" the Cardinals and "from" the Rally Squirrel. (Hey, you said furry, not cuddly...)
3. All the cute zoo animals!

Good Saturday Morning!

I’m focusing on items given to me….

#1 - I’m grateful for my Grandma’s mirror that she specifically left for me - when she was still alive she wrote on the back that this mirror was for me only. The mirror is hanging in my front room/living room and if there’s ever a fire, this mirror will be going out the front door with me. It’s one of the first items my grandma had as a married woman back in the early 40s.

#2 - I’m grateful for all the beautiful jewelry my DH has bought me throughout the years, but especially for my engagement ring - a beautiful start to 28 years of marriage.

#3 - I’m grateful for the Dyson rechargeable stick vacuum my in-laws bought us for Christmas a few years ago - it’s one of the best gifts ever - I love this vacuum. Every day that I use it, to zip over the kitchen floor after dinner, I think how glad I am to have it.
