Three Things...Gratitude Thread

I love all the furry friend shares! Paws to all of them and health, too! I am also not a cat person but of course, wish them well and thank all of you truly who do have cats for the love and care you give to them!

Champ my beloved wire fox terrier who I have shared about many times before will always be in my heart. It means so much to me to know that God has my furry friend in His loving arms always and that one day I will see him again.

Grandpa Sam, long with grandma and Champ now in Heaven, had a cherished black poodle named Gigi. I never truly got to know her as she died when I was just 6. I do remember that often times we would just rest together.

It warms my heart always to hear of happy animals given love by all of dear you. Thank you also again for tending to God's animals that I believe He placed in your lives.

Potter and Weasley, feral brothers who somehow came home to MI with us after Thanksgiving at my MIL's in Ohio when they were about 10 weeks old. We had Potter until he was 17 and Weasley until he was 20. I miss my boys so much! 🐈‍⬛🐈

Mia Hammster. When DD moved back home to a tiny apartment with NO PETS allowed, she got a hamster. When she moved in with her fiancee there was no space for Mia, so we inherited her. She was a funny little thing, stashing away food and running like a maniac on her wheel. She died last fall. It's funny how such a little, basically antisocial creature can still manage to wiggle into your heart.

Dusty. Dusty was a grey kitten that a roommate brought home back in 1981. He'd belonged to her boyfriend and his roommates, and they were having fun getting him high and such so she brought him home and I adopted him. He was a crazy cat. He was an indoor/outdoor cat (very acceptable in the 80s) who liked to roam. He'd be gone for days at a time. I had him for about 3 years and one time when he was out roaming, I was in the middle of moving and had to leave without him. Friends had taken over the lease and said they'd call when he came back, but he never did.

Last time we did a pet-related one, I posted pics of the kitties, so this time I'll do DS's leopard gecko. Here's a sweet napping portrait:

Besides our own pets, I'm grateful for family members' dogs. I'm a cat person myself, but I love playing with dogs in small doses. Here is MIL & FIL's cutie:

And I am grateful for all the cute animals I follow on Instagram, and the dedicated humans who "help" them post. 😆

:grouphug:Leebee, it is heartbreaking indèed when those furry friends we love pass away. Thank you for sharing memories of them with us.

Such a cute pup with his stuffed animal friend, thank you for the smile, PollyannaMom.

Target - although it’s a love-hate relationship I love the store. I hate how it takes all my money. I’m still very grateful for it.
Chevy - love text Mex
Disney store - great way to get my DISNEY fix when I’m not at DISNEY
Bonus - I must say I enjoy almost all the restaurants at Epcot and I’m very grateful for them and their air conditioning

Happy 7/11 Day Everyone!
Let‘s all celebrate with a Slurpee :hyper:

I’m going to focus on restaurants…..

#1 - I’m grateful for our families number 1 pizza place which is Gino’s East in downtown Chicago - we love it there and try to go every summer (we haven’t been yet - we gotta get going and do that before DD19 goes back to school)

#2 - I’m grateful for IHOPs - many people don’t like IHOPs, but I love them. Having 4 different flavored syrups are the best! I get a plate of pancakes and have a different flavor syrup on each pancake - I eat them one at a time. My family does this 🙄 as I take my sweet time - LOL!

#3 - I’m grateful for the Kona Cafe at The Poly - they have one of my most favorite things (Tonga Toast) and I’m so glad that after all the years of them having it, they’ve never taken it off the menu. Sadly, it’s not as wonderful as it used to be, but that’s ok, I still love it❣️

Restaurants

Pedro's- a local staple in my hometown that was open for years. We were devastated when it closed in the 90s. I can still taste everything about it. So many memories.

Peppi's - another local staple that is now closed. My family ate pizza there a gazillion times. I would go with my church youth group after church on Sunday nights. More memories 😍

Mon Amie Gabi in Vegas. Many good memories of sitting outside watching the Bellagio fountains.

One would be Los Tres Amigos - our local Mexican restaurant. I don't honestly love Mexican food, but I love eating at this restaurant. There are always people we know when we go there and I've found something that I love, so I stick with it every time we go there!

Pantera's Pizza - I think it's a regional chain (St Louis area) - we used to have one in my hometown. It has now closed, but there are still a couple around and I love eating at them when we are near one.

Santino's - it's a local italian / steakhouse in the next town over from us. They have such good food and service. On Sundays they have a brunch buffet, so we occasionally go there after church - usually for special occasions like Mother's Day or something like that. That way the "mother's" don't have to prepare the meal for everyone lol!

Stores & Restaurants

I'm going to focus on some I've experienced (and loved) your side of the pond; or, I'll be more out of the loop!

From my trips as a child I loved the old Hallmark stores (especially being a lover of Snoopy & Peanuts). So many special treasures (different from home) for my pocket money!

I also loved a lot of the original shops at Disney Marketplace/Village - the bookstore, the cookshop and deli etc. etc.
...Oh, and the WDW resort convenience and gift shops! One of my favorite things is arriving at a Disney resort, unpacking and, then, exploring the grounds and shops. The resort stores are usually quieter than those in the parks, though there is something special about the Emporium and I did like the old Mouse Gear, too.

I remember my first trips to Denny's and to Chick-fil-a. (I've been to other chain eateries, but these two have the nostalgic value!) We still make our own version of chick-fil-a chicken sandwiches at home. I just had a look at C-f-a's website and they have a limited edition peach milkshake! 😭😭

I bought some great jeans from a J Crew in New Jersey, so special mention to them.

Happy 7-11 day! I remember years ago when a church pastor friend told me about 7-11 giving away free Slurpees today. What fun and how nice of the store to do. I no longer drink Slurpees but sure did love Blue Raspberry Icees at one time!

Tink-osophy, I so miss card stores!

3 Stores or Restaurants

1 Quigleys, a store from my childhood that seemed to have everything. My family and I enjoyed shopping there.

2 Kmart, a store I still miss so much. So many memories including breakfast with my believed grandma, many shopping trips with dad, and the thankful fun we both had being able to use Surprise Points Kmart.com sent us by email almost weekly, Through these points I was able to get the soft throw blanket on my bed for 67 cents along with donations to my church through various ministries including the annual Christmas toy drives.

3 Lamplighter, a family restaurant was the weekly cornerstone of my immediate family most of my childhood every Wednesday night. Years later when grandma and I lived in a small town in Northern CA we had a similar Monday night tradition at a local restaurant as did dad and I at a Dennys out here pre pandemic. I don't miss dining out at all. Dad does, though, I know. I appreciate so much the good memories of past dining experiences :)

A particular corner store when I was a kid - I don't remember the name, but can clearly picture the building (red - and looked it started off as a house). They had the most fun penny cand section!

A tiny, casual seafood place we used to love called Pier 18 - It's a Subway now :( but I was grateful at the time because we all had something we loved there, the prices were reasonable, and the fries were the best!

The places we order take-out from when I just don't want to cook.

Yes, I miss Hallmark stores! My mom and I always used to go the ornament premiers.

As a bonus thing I'm grateful for today - it's my youngest's 21st Birthday today! Not sure how my baby can be 21, but that's another story lol!

We don't have 7-11's in our town, so with his birthday being on 7/11, anytime we see one of the stores/gas stations, we always comment about it being DS's place lol!

>Proctor House in Peabody, MA. When I was a kid in the 60s and 70s, this was our favorite fancy out to dinner restaurant. It eventually died out once chain/franchise family restaurants hit the scene. It was family-owned, in an historic building in Peabody (look up John Proctor from colonial days). They had great food, a nice bar/lounge, and for awhile my Uncle Ernie was their lounge pianist.

>Boma. What can I say, it's a favorite. Love their food, the atmosphere, etc. They have always been more than obliging with dietary issues, and when we went on DD's 13th birthday, and it wasn't peanut rice night, they made some just for her- the birthday girl!

FIlene's/Jordan Marsh from the 60s and 70s (maybe even the 80s). These are two department stores that were popular in the Boston area (and other locations too). They were "higher end" department stores with restaurants, gift wrapping, etc. We used to go to the flagship locations in Boston at Christmas to see Santa and then to see the fantastic holiday windows. There just don't seem to be stores like this anymore.

@slo, you mention two of mine.

IHOP for the pecan flavored syrup
Kona Cafe,,,a picture from Friday! We share the Tonga Toast, and I get one of his eggs.

Sea Shack in HHI, where we just happen to be. Where we just happened to have lunch. Grilled oysters and shrimp, hush puppies, cheese grits, Cole slaw…yummy!

Yes, I am very grateful to enjoy these things.
