Three Generations of Adults do Disney! Our first DVC trip! Updated 9/12/08! -Page5

So I thought I'd post a little "report" to show everyone what I've been up to that's kept me from my DIS Trip Report!

Here are some pics from my show, "The Pirates of Penzance."

We did three performances in Philly at the end of July and then one big performance in Buxton, England.

Backstage pic from Philly shows. My costume (I'm in pink) was really pretty, but not the most comfortable.

Fast forward to England! Here's the outside of the Buxton Opera House:

My costume in Buxon. Much more..... modest:

I'll be back soon for the next update! On to day 4!

DAY 4!

Hi everyone! So we're on to Day 4!

Another early start! We were on our way to Typhoon Lagoon - my all time favorite water park - and we wanted to beat the crowds!

My grandmother decided to take a day off back at the resort, so it was just the four of us. (I actually had a feeling that she might do this.)

We made great time to the park - got there plenty early with a great spot in line for the gate. They let us in a little early to be able to rent lockers and such. We took care of that nice and quick, then got in the NEXT line for the rope drop into the actual park. That wait seemed much longer. Especially since there were several people trying to jump the line and get through by cutting through the grass and brush. Grrr...I can't stand people who try to line jump....

Once they finally dropped the rope, it was like all chaos let loose. I'm the smallest and fastest of the bunch, so I darted out to the right to snag us a prime location for lounging. We got a great spot with the trees and foliage behind us and a nice big umbrella over us. Perfect!

Then it was off to Crush n Gusher!!!! Love this ride!

Here's some shots from our first time down of the day!

And my parents right behind us!

My mom looked real happy there, but I later found out she made the terrible mistake of NOT keeping her butt up while going down the slide! Keep your butts up people! So she was hurting a little bit and decided not to go down a second time.

But, Daddy was all for it! So the three of us took another trip down - Daddy and I on one raft, and Brian on his own.

Brian and I tried to ride one more time, but just as we were ready to be the next ones going down the slide, they had to shut it down because someone got injured. Not sure what happened, but I think someone fell out of the tube - and on that ride, with the jets, people can get hurt. Hopefully everything turned out okay for them.

The rest of our time at Typhoon Lagoon was great - but being a water park, we did not bring our cameras. We spent lots of time on the Storm Slides, while my parents thoroughly enjoyed many laps around the lazy river. We left in the afternoon after having a fabulous time!

What could turn a great water park day sour? Well.... just wait and see...

Those pictures are great!

Your poor Mom! I'm sure she felt that ride for awhile.

Oh no, what happened?! Don't keep us hanging for long. ;)

Okay, last update was finishing up a fabulous time at Typhoon Lagoon.

We eventually decided to leave to have some downtime at the resort. We headed out to the bus stop. Hmmmm..... we were the only ones there. Not a good sign - means we just missed a bus.

OKay - now before going on this trip, I was getting a bit scared from all the stories about the horrible slow down of the bus system. But so far on our trip, we'd had absolutely no problems. At all.

Well - I guess we had gotten spoiled. We sat down at the bus shelter and waited. And waited. And waited. We started getting a bit cranky, as now it was very hot and any cooling off we had gotten from the water park had long worn off.

After almost 45 minutes, we finally got a bus for our resort. That air conditioning felt SO good!

But we finally got back to our hotel and went for a swim in the quiet pool, then went to get ready for our dinner at Boma! (yay! I was so excited- love that restaurant!)

(I apologize for the lack of extra pictures here.... one thing I'm learning from my first Trip Report is better photo documentation! I'm taking mental notes for next year's trip!)

Mother Nature was loving the rain that week, and today was not exception. By the time we got in the bus to AK (we would have to transfer buses at AK to AKL/AKV) the skies had opened up and just loose. I'm talking torrential rains ala monsoons. It was like being under a waterfall. Only with lightning and thunder.

We finally made it there! And we had a bit of time to kill before our ADR.

Here we are in front of the african art in the lobby.

And the rain actually started to let up enough so we could walk onto the outdoor viewing area behind the lobby.

When it was time for dinner, we got a nice table in the middle of the restaurant, not far from the food.

A gentleman name Loren was our server and he was great! Very personable and helpful. We also talked to him about DVC a bit, as he was also a member. Then at the end of dinner, my dad asked him for some extra lime wedges. (Daddy had bought some booze earlier for the room, but couldn't find any limes.) Loren came through and then some. He got together a full cup of lime wedges and a full cup of lemon wedges and covered them. We'd be set for the rest of the vacation! He was awesome!

After dinner, the rain had stopped. Brian and I decided to head out for evening EMH at MK, while the rest went back to the room.

We got an MK bus right away, and off we went!:thumbsup2

Great Crusher Gusher photos!

Once arriving at MK, the rain was truly on it's way out and the sky was clearing. We were lucky enough to spot a rainbow!
IMG_1191.jpg

The nice thing about the rain passing through is that it really cooled things off! I didn't even have to pull my hair up. (Usually, it's always pulled back in Disney from the heat!)

As evening was coming on, we got some great shots of the castle.

Our goal was to ride Big Thunder, Pirates, Haunted Mansion, see the parade, and watch Wishes!

More to come soon!

DAY 4 CONCLUSION....

So we left last time with a plan for our MK EMH.

Here's some more pics of the castle and surroundings soon after arriving...

Here's a shot looking over the little stream from the bridge by the Crystal Palace:
IMG_1205.jpg

So here's a little bit of trivia, since I mentioned the Crystal Palace. I could be wrong, but when we were in Buxton, England for the festival, we were told that the building behind the opera house was the original that Disney modeled the Crystal Palace after. Perhaps if there are experts reading, someone can let me know if that's really true. But I thought it was kind of cool!

Our plan was to ride some rides first - we'd catch the later parade.

We rode Pirates - several times. Like I said before, I think we just have a real nostalgic connection to this particular ride. We love it! So after three times on Pirates, we were off to Haunted Mansion. And no wait! Gotta love it. Perhaps all that rain kept a lot of people from heading out this particular night. I didn't care what the reason - we were having little to no waits on all the rides we wanted to get on!

It was also nice to be moving at "our" pace. We don't like to stroll. Just not the way we work. Now, my dad's pretty good at keeping up, but my mom and grandmother.... not so much. So now that it was just Brian and I, we were making very good time!

It was also nice just to be walking around MK at night. There's just something more magical about it at night, when everything's lit up and sparkly. :goodvibes

After riding some of our must-do's, we headed toward Fantasyland. They already had ropes up for the Wishes.

I have to say that it's a little sad (to me) that you can't be closer to the castle for the fireworks. I mean, I understand that the Wishes show shoots off those bursts of...well, whatever you call them...firework-type cannon shots... over the castle and they need to worry about safety.

But my favorite memory of my first trip to Disney when I was 8, was standing next to the castle, watching fireworks, and listening to "When You Wish Upon a Star" playing through the air. I will never forget that moment. That's when that little 8 year old girl fell in love with Disney World; and has loved it ever since. That song to this day always tears me up a little. (I'm getting a little glassy-eyed just thinking about it now!)

We decided since Wishes was less than half an hour away, that we would get a spot right by the rope to watch. Here's a shot of the castle looking all cool in dark colors:
IMG_1212.jpg

Now, I know there are people that just love Wishes. And I do always love a good fireworks show. BUT, I kind of feel like the soundtrack to Wishes is, well, just a little too cheesy. I'm not big on cheesy children's choruses and am not a fan of the running dialogue over the music ("I wish...") That's why I like Illuminations better - more focus on the music telling the story. But I was excited to see the fireworks up close. Here are some shots:
IMG_1224.jpg

IMG_1220.jpg

IMG_1219.jpg

After Wishes, we decided to mosey towards Main Street for the second Spectro Magic Parade. But first - a quick stop by Mickey's Philharmagic! (Such fun!) Then we went to get a parade viewing spot. We got a nice spot along Main Street on the bridge approaching the castle.

Looking up to the castle:
IMG_1236.jpg

I do like the parade. I'll admit that I miss "The Main Street Electrical Light Parade!" from my childhood years. (I can still hear that synthesizer music in my head!) But this one is also a lot of fun. Here are some shots from the parade:

IMG_1252.jpg

IMG_1259.jpg

After the parade went past us, we decided to head to Frontier Land and ride Big Thunder a few times. But here is where we made a tactical error. Oh yes, even someone who's been going to the World for 24 years can still goof - especially when tired.

We walked into Adventureland, which was empty and still, with the plan to cross over into Frontier Land. Well.....the parade still had to finish going through there and we had NO way to cut across. We SHOULD have cut into Fantasy Land and crossed above, but alas, it was too late.

We walked back to the end of the parade, now coming out of Liberty Square, and walked behind the tail end, so we could loop back around to get up to Big Thunder.

We made it with little problems, and got in line! The line was not long, and we waited maybe 5 minutes. After riding once, we of course wanted to ride again.

We saw the ride monitor stopping a girl trying to get in line who did not have an EMH bracelet. (oooh!) He asked her if she was staying in a Disney resort - she said no - he told her the park was actually closed to non-disney resort guests and turned her away. Do people really not get the whole EMH concept, or do they choose to try and cheat the system anyway? I'm sure it's a combination of both.

Anyway, we rode again; and again.

At this point it was getting REALLY late. We weren't doing morning EMH the next day, but were still planning on getting up early, so we decided to officially call it a day. We headed back to Beach Club tired, but so happy! :yay:

What a great night at MK! I love your fireworks pictures. You really lucked out on the rides too. Isn't that so nice when you don't have to wait and wait!

I'm not sure about the Crystal Palace. I hope someone knows.

Another early start! We were on our way to Typhoon Lagoon - my all time favorite water park - and we wanted to beat the crowds!

I've heard it's best to get to water parks at rope drop to have any chance of riding what you want. Looks like it worked for you guys!
My grandmother decided to take a day off back at the resort, so it was just the four of us. (I actually had a feeling that she might do this.)

It's nice when grandparents take the time they need to relax, so their trip doesn't get overwhelming!

Especially since there were several people trying to jump the line and get through by cutting through the grass and brush. Grrr...I can't stand people who try to line jump....

   I HATE that!!

We got a great spot with the trees and foliage behind us and a nice big umbrella over us. Perfect!

Sounds heavenly!

LOVE this picture! How fun!

My mom looked real happy there, but I later found out she made the terrible mistake of NOT keeping her butt up while going down the slide! Keep your butts up people!
Ouch! Thanks for the advice!

We eventually decided to leave to have some downtime at the resort. We headed out to the bus stop. Hmmmm..... we were the only ones there. Not a good sign - means we just missed a bus.
:headache: DOH!
But so far on our trip, we'd had absolutely no problems. At all.

Famous last words, eh?

Well - I guess we had gotten spoiled. We sat down at the bus shelter and waited. And waited. And waited. We started getting a bit cranky, as now it was very hot and any cooling off we had gotten from the water park had long worn off.
It's so hard to stay positive when you have to wait that long. I hear ya!

then went to get ready for our dinner at Boma! (yay! I was so excited- love that restaurant!)
Haven't tried Boma yet. You recommend?

(I apologize for the lack of extra pictures here.... one thing I'm learning from my first Trip Report is better photo documentation! I'm taking mental notes for next year's trip!)

Oh my gosh.. I said these very same words in my first TR! I STILL don't think I take enough pictures!

Ok, did you INTENTIONALLY give Brian Mickey ears? Or was that just an added surprise?:lmao:

A gentleman name Loren was our server and he was great!

Sounds like you got yourselves an awesome CM!!

Here's some more pics of the castle and surroundings soon after arriving...
IMG_1192.jpg

Girl, you got some gorgeous shots!!

And HOORAY for an evening alone. Family is wonderful, but so is couple time!

Sounds good to me!

we were having little to no waits on all the rides we wanted to get on!
That sounds awesome. I wish we could get ourselves rested enough to tackle a really late night EMH at MK.. sounds like you can get a lot done!

It was also nice to be moving at "our" pace. We don't like to stroll. Just not the way we work. Now, my dad's pretty good at keeping up, but my mom and grandmother.... not so much. So now that it was just Brian and I, we were making very good time!

That is so Matt and Me! We speed walk everywhere. We have a technique down where we actually separate frome each other to weave around crowds, always ending back up togther a few yards later!

Amen and Hallelujah! You completely summed up my opinions of Wishes vs. Illuminations! It's like marching bands that have to put spoken word soundtracks on top of their show.. just doesn't work for me most of the time!!

But first - a quick stop by Mickey's Philharmagic! (Such fun!)

Love that show too!

I do like the parade. I'll admit that I miss "The Main Street Electrical Light Parade!" from my childhood years. (I can still hear that synthesizer music in my head!)

We had the 45 record of the Main Street Electrical Parade. We had also bought pencils with little flags on the top from WDW. We would play that record every day and march around our house like we were in the parade. Dang, I miss that parade, too!

Do people really not get the whole EMH concept, or do they choose to try and cheat the system anyway? I'm sure it's a combination of both.

Can you imagine the nerve, or stupidity, of some people?!:sad2:

Sounds like you had a super day! Even with the rain and long bus wait!

Hi Sooze!

OMG! Those "mickey ears" over Brian's head in the AK lobby were a complete accident! I actually didn't even notice them until you pointed them out! I'll have to show Brian. :cutie:

And YES! I totally recommend Boma! It's one of my absolute faves! :thumbsup2

yay for all the updates! I returned from my WDW honeymoon to PA on Sunday night and back to Ohio on Tuesday.. been working and trying to get unpacked, and now I finally have a moment to catch up!

Looks like all is well so far. I tell Jeremy all the time that when we have kids it is totally going to ruin how we tour parks - we like to actually walk and get to stuff too.

And we totally loved Beach Club. It was so great to be so close to Epcot. We were TOTALLY surprised on our last night when they brought the globe back into Illuminations - it was AMAZING. It looks soooo clear now! You just need to take a trip to go see it... :rolleyes1

I haven't been to TL since my very first time at WDW - it looks like fun! And geez, 65 minute wait for Jungle Cruise?!?!?! Seriously????

Welcome back! And a big ol' congratulations!

OMG - I can't wait to see the new globe in Illuminations! But I have to wait until JUNE! darn it! How will I wait until then?!?!?!?

Are you going to do a TR on your honeymoon trip? If so, I'll be readin'!

I'll try to get my next update up soon!

UGH! I just spent the last half hour working on a new update, and my browser "unexpectedly quit" on me. It's all gone!

So perhaps it wasn't meant to be tonight....

I'll try again later folks.:confused3
