Hey everyone! Stopping by at lunch to say a quick hello.
I feel like I've been gone for ages, even though I've been stopping by. I haven't read most of the posts and I feel so out of the loop. :confused3

I took off Friday and Saturday for DSs real birthday and for a wedding, and other than that I've been cleaning like a woman possessed getting ready for DHs Aunt to come stay this weekend. I'm hoping things will slow down a little after Mother's Day so I'll be able to bop in more. At this point, I don't know if I'll ever catch up though... so forgive me if I ask any dumb questions.

So, to reply to the cake recipe requests (I posted the volcano cake pics a few pages back...)

The cake itself was just the chocolate cake recipe on the back of the Hershey's Cocoa can. Any chocolate cake mix would do, I'm sure.

The "base" was a 13x9 sheet cake. I made a butter cream icing and colored half blue and half green (for grass and ocean). Before the blue set, I ran a silicon bbq brush across it to make waves. In btw the grass and ocean, I crumbled the cookie part of Cameos (like vanilla oreos) to make the beach. (I had planned on using graham crackers which would have been easier since I had to scrape out the filling from the cookies, but I forgot to buy them and didn't realize until about 1am... :rolleyes1 ) Then, after the ocean icing set, I used the filling from the Cameos (a little white icing would have worked fine too) and my finger to spread just a little white on the blue waves close to shore for some "white caps."

The "volcano" was supposed to be made from a bundt cake, but it would have been too big on top of the sheet cake, so I found 2 smaller foil pans and stacked them instead. I cut a hole in the top round cake big enough for a shot glass (this is where the lava will eventually go.) Then, I made a peanut butter glaze and drizzled it over the "volcano" since it didn't have any icing and since I wanted a little contrasting brown color. (The glaze I made up, so I don't have a recipe... but it was basically 2 tbs peanut butter, 2 tbs powdered sugar, some vanilla and some melted peanut butter chips mixed together until I got the consistency I wanted.) On top of the glaze, I sprinkled some crushed chocolate graham cracker crumbs for texture.

For the eruption...

Mix marshmallow Fluff, red and yellow food dye and hot water until its the desired color and consistency for lava. (Not too runny, or it will soak into the cake... just enough that its not sticking to the spoon and will pour.)

Put several small pieces of dry ice into the shot glass. Pour the warm fluff mixture into the shot glass. Once it starts to react w/ the dry ice, it will bubble and flow up out of the glass and over the cake.

I added a sparkler to the top of the cake. (Mostly in case it didn't work since I hadn't given the lava a trial run.)

Ok, well, that about used up lunch time. You can always post or PM me w/ any questions if anyone wants to try it.

OMG!!! That is just WAY too much work for me!!!!! I think I'm glad my kids like ice cream cake! MUCH easier for Mom!

:ssst: OK...maybe it is TMI but if you want to know how Magsnden got her little souvenir from her last trip, go to post 22 in DL55's TR.:ssst:

:lmao: :lmao: the cat's out of the bag! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

by the way, i'm proud of us too that we reached 250, but i want to put a frownie if we're going to have to start a new thread. i liked that you used that word, frownie!

i always miss it when our new friend, racetrack, is on. :sad1: i feel like i've known her a long time.

lighttech - i loved that idea for your cake, and how cool it is that the lava actually flows down the sides of the volcano.

whgrn - how are you feeling today? everything still looking good?

magikitty - do you think the mods will give you a chance to post one more time with the link to the new thread? this way our friends will be able to find us.

pikester - good morning! i hope you had a fun time subbing today. you're really devoted to be checking in sooo early in the morning! it's always the first thing i do too. i get my coffee and get on the computer. it's a gentler way to wake up, i think.

i'll be back later, i'm going to go share an italian ice with my mags. i'm enjoying this weather sooooo much!

whgrn - how are you feeling today? everything still looking good?

Feeling quite good, thanks! Everything still looks good. My only concern is the donor site. The dressing on top of it is supposed to be open to air so it can "dry out". But it's NOT drying out!!! So the drainage keeps getting on the inside of my shirt. YUCK.

I went for another walk today--40 minutes down to DS's school and back. Had to drop off his meds to the nurse, so I figured I'd walk. It felt good!

What flavor? It's a good day for one.

I have a hard time getting to sleep when I'm on late.

MagiKitty: Did the book come? You're not on so....

When we get to next name we could do thricelyunited? Or would it be tri-united? It took us 6 months to get this far so we can vote later.:thumbsup2

:flower3: missed you too. But italian ice sure does sound good. Might have to think about getting some for an after dinner treat.

I hope to see you all later. :goodvibes

Hey, all!

While reading the paper today, I got a GREAT idea for a Mothers' Day gift. AND for BFF!!

Gas cards. With the price as high as it is, every little bit helps!

Gotta find out what kind of gas BFF uses...

afternoon everyone!

M&N...how did you know my books arrived today? I called the company to find out what was going on, and it was scheduled to arrive friday but guess what was darkening my doorstep when I got back? Yes! My books. One is the newest Stephenie Meyer--she wrote the Twilight series, its supposed to be young adult but it is SO SO good! This book, The Host, is her first written for an adult reader. So excited! The second book is Birnbaum's guide to WDW dining, and I'm a little disappointed. The pages aren't glossy like the other guide, its actually kinda made of cheap paper.

Magsnden...how was the italian ice? I'm a traditionalist--cherry. And I'm going to need some help if I have to post a link or something! But I haven't heard from the mods yet, so we'll just wait and see.

Whgrn...good to hear that you're feeling good--sorry about the draining. But at least it IS draining, which is getting all that gunk away from you. And good idea with the gas cards! :thumbsup2

lighttech...I'm further amazed by your talents after reading what you had to do to get that beautiful cake. Its just sounding like a science project to me---and I was never good at my science project. The only time I medalled at the science fair was when my project was about cosmetics! Tells you just how girly I am...but I did get second place after the cow autopsy. (don't ask. I grew up in a rural community).

TTYL!

I'm sorry. I didn't want to. I did it. I just checked. I killed Pepper's thread. It's bad enough at times to kill a thread.......but one of your friend's....

:rotfl:

Don't know how I got so far behind!!!!! Getting ready to head home for the day, just wanted to say hi.

Giving your Mother gas for Mothers Day just sounds soooo wrong! I know you wrote gas cards but when I repeated it to myself I left out the card part and just cracked up. Then I went off thinking Beano might be more useful! My mom does not drive and has been having those kinds of problems so I just went off on the wrong tangent. I guess I won't be staying up late tonight. ;)

I'll have to put Stephanie Meyer on my list of authors to read. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'll check back later to see if D&D checks in about heDH's job. pixiedust:

OK, I can't help it, I HAVE to ask! COW AUTOPSY?!?!?!?!:scared1: OK, Kitty, spill it!

And I agree lighttech, that cake sounds like a science project (and a WAY COOL one, at that!!) If I ever need to do a "real" volcano for a project for my kids, I'm calling YOU!!!!:lmao:

Sooo tired. It always amazes me how tired I get after subbing.

magsnden "pikester - good morning! i hope you had a fun time subbing today. you're really devoted to be checking in sooo early in the morning! it's always the first thing i do too. i get my coffee and get on the computer. it's a gentler way to wake up, i think."

I usually get up at 6:00am. This gives me plenty of time to make a cup of tea, watch the news, check my email, get the kids up, make lunches or snacks and to get us out the door to get the kids to school before 8:00am. When I sub I try to get us (me and DS7) to school for 7:45am and my DS10 walks to his school from DS7 school (where I sub at) instead of me dropping him off.

lighttech--I have to agree with whgrn , that sounds like to much work for me!

So I guess that when you get too many pages on a thread they close it? Whatever you decide to name the "new" thread is fine with me.:thumbsup2

M&N-The seniors here graduate June 12th and the rest of the kids will be going until June 20th. We had a lot of snowdays that we have to make up for. In fact, the seniors have to attend school on Saturday, May 17th to keep their June 12th date.

Hello MagiKitty, whgrn, racetrack18kb, pepperw23! :wave2:

Just stopping by to say goodnight.

Pikester, Magikitty, Whgrn, Magsnden, Racetrack and anyone else who commented on the cake, thanks! But, it wasn't actually that bad. It reads a lot more complicated than it is. B/c there was less actual icing, I think its easier than a lot of other cakes. (I'm terrible at icing... I always get all the little cake crumblies mixed in.)

Glad that wounds seem to be healing and everyone is enjoying the nice weather. I know I've been needing some warm days. Now I just need some time off to enjoy them! :rotfl: One thing about working in a tv studio, its dark, and there's no windows. So, I go in around 9am and leave around 7pm, and 1/2 the time I have no idea what it even did all day!

Pikester - Good for you getting up so early. Whenever I do, I so enjoy my morning quiet time, but I'm usually just too tired. We really don't go to bed early enough. Since I work 10hr days on the days I work, I don't usually get home until around 8. Then its put DS to bed and we don't even start cookin dinner until 9-ish. So, bedtime tends to be too close to 6am for my comfort. (And, I'm just plain lazy in the mornings too. :rolleyes1 )

Magsnden - I'm going to have to check out that thread... can't let any secrets get by!

And, as far as ice... I'd have to vote for Mango. Not sure why, I was always cherry as a kid, but I tried Rita's mango a number of years back, and now its my fav.

Well, night all. Gotta finish the :laundy: , DHs Aunt arrives tomorrow and I need to finish getting this place at least semi in order.

Oh, almost forgot... Let's be sure to start a PM chain in case we don't get that chance to post the new link.

Also, I think my vote is for Threadkillers Untied... since we seem to be such a silly bunch some days... but, whatever we do, I think MagiKitty should do the first post in the new thread just to keep tradition alive! :)

I finally decide to post and join you and nobody is here. :confused3

magsden-I think I'll skip that cider too. We thought about "drinking around the world" but I think we'll skip England. :rotfl: How you feeling?

Pikester-I saw you ticker says you are going om December. What week, if you don't mind sharing?

MagiKitty-How are those dining plans? Make any changes yet? :goodvibes And yes, do share about the cow autopsy!!!

whgrn-I'm so glad everything has been going so well after your surgery. You're still in my thoughts.

M&N-What can I say....Kyle Busch rocks....hehehe.

Lighttech-  the cake but way too much work for me too. Maybe I can get my daughter to try to make one. Any word on the daycare? And how are you feeling too?

D&DDisney-Keeping you in my thoughts. I hope all worked out well with DH's job.

DL55-I know there was something I wanted to say to you. Oh yeah, loving the trip report. You'll see me over there soon.

pepperw23-where are you?

M&N...I feel that I should warn you that the Stephenie Meyer series is about vampires. Not like a thriller, although there are some great fight scenes. But mostly its about teenagers fitting in, finding themselves, figuring out their place in the world. They're making a movie of it. I also like it coz the books are big fat books, I feel like I'm getting my money's worth. The new book is about aliens, but its another love story type.

Ok, about the cow autopsy. A friend of mine was Miss 4-H, crown and all. Her science project was about the anatomy of a cow and its similarities to the human. Instead of a nice diarama or a poster, she actually brought in a recently deceased (natural death, she didn't kill it) calf, expertly filleted and on display. My poor poster didn't have a chance.

Oh goodness, ADRS are going to kill me. I have no decided to pay OOP for the Boma breakfast and added a dinner at Chefs de France, it just makes more financial sense. Of course, the best sense would be NOT to spend any extra money at all, but I figure that I should take advantage of the opportunity while I have it.

Ooh, a vote for Thread Killers Untied. (very funny, btw). A new contender. I will know open the floor for voting.

Thread Killers Untied?!?:lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: I love it! Gets my vote!!

Wonder when they're gonna close us down...

I finally decide to post and join you and nobody is here. :confused3

If we knew you were coming, we would have been here.
18 sure rocks...everyone's car off the track!

Don't you just love those books you can sink your teeth into? I'm too cheap to buy books...I can check at the library. (Librarians need to work!) I live probably 6 blocks away. Plus, if I took the long way, I could pass Rita's. I love the root beer one myself. Does anyone know how many calories they have? I guess I should check on it. They do have a sugar-free one too.

I don't care what we name the thread...just so we can stay together. :grouphug:

I'll go with M&N on this one....as long as we are together on the thread. That's all that matters. MagiKitty, you need to decide. You brought us all together and you deserve the honor of picking our new name.

Hey Guys!:wave2:
Just wanted to check in. Been :tilt: around here and I miss my Dis time.:sad1:

Add me to the PM thread please! Don't leave a "killer" behind!:goodvibes.
Love "untied" title.

Hope all of you are doing well.
