Good Morning! Aren't families wonderful???

Shmu - Sorry that you have to endure that. Just know you're not alone. My sister and SIL have "sharp tounges" at our get togethers. Sad part is, I don't think they even realize it. :sad2: And when you call them on it, its YOU who is being mean to them. :headache: Go figure. Get some help from the boys -- Jack Daniel and Captian Morgan :drinking1 and you too will make it through.
Sorry about your mom. I know that pain only too well.
My dad died unexpectedly in Aug. so I am hoping my family will be kinder to each other this year. It's going to be a bitter sweet holiday as we try to keep the smile on :teeth: for the kids when in reality our hearts are :sad1:

Hope you are ready for Christmas. I'm not! No matter how hard I try to stay ahead, the days seem to excellerate faster. I've got wrapping, baking and a little more shopping to do. Only 5 more days left!!!!!!!! :scared:

For Shmu, dreamin in pa, and D&DDisney :grouphug: :grouphug:
D&DDisney the first Christmas is the hardest.

:grouphug:  :grouphug:  for those of you enduring tough family situations this Christmas. Sending prayers your way.:) Not the happiest in-law situation here, but not as bad as it could be. I recently realized that whenever I'm around my MIL, I end up with a sore jaw from gritting my teeth the whole time. She just does that to me. I"m sure ya'll do what I do and just try to concentrate on having a special Christmas for DH, me and kids and let the rest slide.:goodvibes

Shmu - My UGA fan family wouldn't tell me what they wanted for Christmas until I threatened to give everyone AU shirts. You should have seen how fast they came up with some lists.

D&D - I've been meaning to tell you that I love your tag and avatar. So funny. Now that I've buttered you up, would you mind pming me that cute I luv DW banner in your siggie?

Been baking all day. Still have more shopping, wrapping, cooking and cleaning to do. My family is coming here on Christmas Day and I still don't know what I'm making for dinner.

I just love this thread.
Starting to stress a little about Christmas day... Sorry to vent. I usually try to post positive stuff. Just missing my mom a lot today. She died from breast cancer 16 years ago around Christmas time.:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Don't fret. That's the goood thing about friends we take the good with the bad.:goodvibes I lost my Dad over 20 years ago I am 44 this year(I was an only daughter-thus daddy's little girl), and my "favorite" brother(we were 14months apart) 7 years ago. It is the time of year to miss those we love and to get "fumed" at the ones we have. My DM has been driving me "bug nuts" for the last couple of weeks but I don't think I could survive without her her. As we say in my family, "consider the alternatives".

I am so sorry that those "adults" can't figure out that love comes from different "accounts" and that just because your Dad loves you and yours it wouldn't take away from anyone else. :confused3

DD&D, I'm with you, in laws are here and the chardoney is open
:thumbsup2
Check in later

Good evening all! First and foremost...:grouphug: to everyone this time of year. It is a time to celebrate and remember the most precious things in life. It is also a time to stretch ourselves thin, try to accomplish too much, try to accomodate everyone. It does get too much sometimes, but its a special time ONCE A YEAR, and we're all amazing enough to get through it with a smile (even if we are gritting our teeth on the inside). Just keep a lookout for those special moments that make it all worthwhile and take time for yourself! Breathe, appreciate, enjoy. Time passes all too quickly.

My mother and I have a standing date for Fridays. Talking to her today, she's decided that although we're collectively done with holiday shopping she still wants to head out to the mall. But we'll go and see what sales we can come across and just enjoy the spirit of it all.

My family is too far spread to really get together for the holidays, mainly its my parents, my sister, my brother and his family. Its fairly low key, especially with my nieces and nephews getting older. But we have my cousin's wedding the first week of January, and there's nothing to bring out nasty family quarrels like a vacation with a wedding! I'm already annoyed with the antics and family politics. Just breathe, just breathe.

I'm thinking of you all and everything that we each face with the holidays. Just try to find the joy. Have a good evening!

whgrn-I was so happy to read that your kids helped you when you were feeling unwell. I hope they have tried to keep it up. How's the point system working? I may have missed it but how old are your kids? I am always looking for new ideas on how to get good behavior out of mine. Maybe I could do this point system too with different rewards.

I am delighted to announce that Christmas is ON again at our house!!!:santa: Both kids have surpassed the needed points to earn their Christmas! I couldn't be happier. DD is 12, DS will be 11 in February. They really are sweet kids and I love them all to bits. Their behavior and attitudes were just getting way out of hand, and needed to be reined in a bit. I think I'm happier about Christmas than they are! (Maybe because I'm in a better mood now that I don't spend my days screaming, punishing, and dreading the next blowup!)

My BIG excitement for today is the distinct possibility of 1) a new job--much desired and hoped for and 2) a special vacation next summer with dear old Daddy, and, suprisingly, maybe even Mom and DSis too! So things are lookin' up around here!

Welcome to all our newest readers. Pull up a keyboard and join us!

Gosh, I don't think I'll EVER sleep tonite. Too excited over these new prospects! Think the Disney commercial with those adorable kids, "We're too excited to sleep!" Yup, that's me, 47 years old and too excited to sleep because of a vacation that MIGHT happen 8.5 months from now!

:yay: for you whgrn on all the great things going on at your house. Always happy to hear good news.:thumbsup2

 :grouphug: I am so sorry the holidays are so rough for you. My mom is battling cancer right now (3rd time in 7 years). My prayers go out to you.
Thanks.:grouphug: Prayers heading right back your way too.
Shmu - Sorry that you have to endure that. Just know you're not alone.
Get some help from the boys -- Jack Daniel and Captian Morgan :drinking1 and you too will make it through.
VERY tempting.pirate:

:lmao: Thanks for the laugh. Really needed it today.

So true. Gotta make the best of it I guess.

I had one of those special moments today. I'm thinking about writing it up in my PTR.

:yay: :santa: :yay: :santa: So glad things are looking brighter.

Thanks to everyone for the hugs and allowing me to vent. We all have our stuff to deal with don't we. It is nice to have a safe place to blow it out once in a while and know you are still accepted. I took this day and had some alone time (among all the other shoppers out there) I feel better. Life is good again. I think I am going to go write it up for my PTR. Good night TK's. Talk to ya in the morning.:grouphug:

I, unfortunately, have been off the boards a while in the Holiday rush (also, DS has been fighting a wicked stomach flu, but hopefully he's on the upswing, he's gone a whole day w/o um... any losses???...)

I don't have time to catch up (although, Schmu's post helped... thanks for all the quotes, its easier than paging thru 5 days worth :rotfl: ).

Its seems like some of our TK's are having rough days and some are on the upswing. I hope you all find some peace and joy this Holiday season and I wish you all a blessed and Happy New Year.

Thanks for hanging around here and brightening my day on so many occasions.

:grouphug:

whgrn :yay: It's amazing how the threat of no Christmas can straighten out a kid. :lmao: How exciting about the job and vacation with family. :santa:
lighttech Hope your DS is all well for Christmas.
Bopsmom

MagiKitty - You're right...just keep on breathing deep breaths and keep telling yourself "It's only once a year!"

Bopsmom - I hope that chardoney came in a box. :lmao: Stay comfortably numb for a few days and then it will be over.

dreaming in PA - to you and prayers to mom. Enjoy every minute with her no matter what. Life is too precious and can change in an instant.

Thanks for all the hugs and well wishes. Dad is so very missed. Wish I would have somehow known that Christmas 06 was going to be the last.

Okay, presents are wrapped and now its onto cookie baking and food prep. We are doing Christmas on Sun, Mon and Tues so I have few things to prepare. I can't seem to go anywhere w/o asking if I can bring something. Darn that hospitality gene I inherited!!!!

:rotfl2: box! Heck no, I'm saving the corks for the next TK craft project!:thumbsup2

When I said box I meant large surplus of wine w/ a tapper. That way it is free-flowing and always available.

Good evening TKers! I braved the mall so close to Christmas and survived! Not too crazy at the mall, but for some reason, the parking lots were insane! People are succumbing to holiday pressure, I guess. LOTS of men shopping, looking bewildered and trying to figure out the intricacies of women's sizing.

I returned all of the dresses I had ordered in past weeks. And wouldn't you know it, after returning at JcPenneys, I found the perfect dress! It was in the Juniors section (I don't even know why I was over there) and I found a rack of dresses. What the heck, I'll give it a go. And I found a dress in my tyrannosaurus rex size (junior sizing is just humiliating), tried it on, and brought it home. Who would have thunk it?

So glad to hear that Christmas is back on, whgrn! And new job too! Looks like there's some :pixiedust: in the air!

Hey, whatever it takes for you to get through the holidays with minimum tears and bloodshed, do it! If it be corked, iced, or wrapped, go to it! Still have some wrapping to do, and am planning my holiday weekend menu. Looks fairly smooth so far, but you never know. I think I'll have a glass of wine with y'all just in case. Either way, :grouphug: :grouphug: to everyone and whatever the holidays entails for each of us.

It came in a box but not the "box o'wine" kind (my favorite "vaca" wine BTW).;)
Ours came in a box with Lots of bottles in it.:rotfl2:

Great news about the dress. :yay:
Cheers!:drinking:

whgrn-woohoo on the possible new job and your kids behaving. And a vacation too. I hope it all keeps going well and good luck with the possible new job.pixiedust: I've decided to try your idea about the chart for my youngest two DD. I swear all they do is yell, nitpick and be mean to each other. They will get stickers for good behavior and helping mom. I figure for a reward, if they earn enough stickers in 2 weeks, they can pick a place to go out to dinner. They love to go out to eat since we don't do it very often. At this point, I'd rather be out a little extra money than live through the warzone that our house is turning into. I still don't know what to do with DS15 but hopefully i'll come with something soon.

MagiKitty- on finding a dress. And I know what you mean about the mall. We went to tonight and had to park a mile away but once we got inside, none of the stores had long lines to checkout. Go figure.

Thanks for all the :grouphug: everybody. We try not to dwell on what is going on but it's always there and it will always be there, if you now what I mean. We just live each day the best we can.

Well, I'm off to have a :drinking1 or 2 and to torment DH since he's been working crazy hours all week.:rotfl: Have a great one everybody!

just stopping in for a quick hello. i haven't been around in a while, my dad's been in the hospital with pneumonia and it's been really crazy. he's finally home today, but he's got a long way to go. i hope to be able to catch up tomorrow in the morning. i've really missed all you killers. talk to you all soon!

I really do pray for you guys here on the TK. Of course I call you by your screen name. If anyone overheard me they would get a big chuckle. "Dear God help MagiKitty and magsnden and D&DDisney....... Get the point?:rotfl: Well, God knows who you are and He knows what you need.

Had a party last night with Young Adults from our church. Someone brought a fondue fountain. Everybody was down in the basement except for me, DD, my friend and her DD. Here is what happens when you leave 4 girls alone with chocolate.
