Wow, we are really slowing down:confused3. Just popped in between chores, giving us a much needed bump!

Rats...I hit the wrong thing and my aol cut off and I had typed a great reply! I'll try again...I'm on by myself anyway.

MagiKitty: I didn't find the trolling thread but it sounds mean. What's the purpose? Isn't there enough controversary in the world?
I go to my mom's every weekend. She lives in Lancaster-about 35 min away. Dad died in 90. She doesn't drive. We run around, get groceries, do laundry, cook extra for the next week, and watch the Phillies/NASCAR etc. She's 77 and has 2 knee replacements but gets around good. She takes the bus every week to get her hair done but not a route to go to dr. I droped her off at the dentist this am on my way home. She can get a bus ok home.
Your dining plans sound great. I haven't eaten at many places. I would love the character meals too. Keep on dreamin about the food---no calories in that. :rotfl:
Dreamin: The weather in Dec was unusual when I was there. I don't think it's usually that warm. We definitely sat in the shade on Castaway Cay. There's lots you can research about cruises. You can even find out what movies they are showing. I heard the new Toy Story show on the Wonder is great.
Disney54us: The world is just turning into a selfish place. You are showing your DS some serious loving by being in tune with his feelings. Maybe they don't show it but inside they know. You have the groundwork there. I know parenting has to be the toughest job around. You are showing love and concern and support when they are little. I think being let down by friends is easier to handle when you know your parents will not let you down. You are the model and the person who is constant for them. Yeah-friends are important. They just have to learn how to sift through and get the right ones. You are there. Keep your DH in the loop...loved the smilie getting beat on the head.
Lighttech: I guess I could say the same for your love for your DS and D? (S or D). You have made the best choice for your children. No one is going to be able to match your love for them. But you are there for them at home. They will know that. Your stroller purchase sounds great. I think it would be more lugging after you leave the parks without the rental. I think some of the bigger kids like the rentals to relax in. But they don't seem as comfortable as regular strollers for smaller kids.
Lunch time...I don't surf during my lunch break! :rotfl: It's in my retirement contract that I get a duty free 60 or more minutes lunch. :lmao:

 Hi Disney54us. You snuck on while I was trying to post. The sun's out. Need to get walk in too. Too late to any good for WW tonight but every little bit helps.

Hi everyone...its definitely a Monday. Things have been a bit rocky today. Nothing serious, just getting to the Post Office to mail taxes (yuck) but they're off. Quick stop at grocery for supplies (read: cat food) and some strawberries that I hope are as good as they look.

Still chilly, but nothing that I can't handle. Walk sounds good, M&N! I didn't know you go to your mother's every weekend...I spend Fridays with mine. And its true, your parents are your biggest fan and is so good to know you can rely on them. Regardless of "how grown up you are" you're still their child, first and foremost.

Yeah, I've seen some incidents of trolling but people in their own right can be mean anyway. I've seen some what I thought were genuine newbie questions that were met with sarcasm and mockery. Not everyone has been on the Dis for so long..we all started somewhere. We came here to try to find info, as small and as insignificant as they may be.

Last night on PBS, they had a remake of a Room with a View...one of my fave movies ever. I was disappointed with the ending, and it made me sad. I always like to think of the romantic hero and heroine living on in love's glory. I'm going back to the original movie. And if anyone likes opera---I recommend the soundtrack! Its sweeping, romantic, gorgeous. Great music to drive long distances to with the sunlight streaming through the window...I have it and would gladly burn it for anyone who wanted to give it a try!

I'll be back later! We're got to hold tight for the missing!

I hate when you type a long reply and :confused3 something happens!!! Then you have to do it all over again. Thanks for the kind words:goodvibes.
Oh yeah that reminds me since I've been popping in and out the last week.
$31.00 for a stroller rental:scared1:, that's crazy. I mean I know flour, gas etc has gone up but that's way to much!
We have been there in late October and early Feb. The weather was great, warm sunny and the water ahhh. So maybe they don't get a cold spell:confused3, Maybe Disney found Utopia .
 Hi Disney54us. You snuck on while I was trying to post. The sun's out. Need to get walk in too. Too late to any good for WW tonight but every little bit helps.

:wave2:, Sun came out here wasn't suppose to glad they were wrong again!

Mondays are that get situated type of day. Okay something else I haven't had a chance to comment on but noticed. What is this Troll thread??? So people have a thread to purposely to make newbies feel unwanted?? Sorry, their are so many sarcastic people on the boards. Don't get, they need to get a life, or maybe realize just b/c mommy & daddy told them they were special when they were young their not!!!:rolleyes1

The troll thread was on the Budget Board a few days ago. It was started because someone thought there were a lot of trolls on the boards lately. I do think there are people who are mean and like to make others feel bad, but I do think that there are just some people who ask questions in a particular way that gets misinterpreted, or ask a newbie question that others find offensive. They think that just because someone has a low post count and asks something there's some trolling going on.

Everyone has a different moral compass, and far too often people are judgemental on others who may have different viewpoints than their own. We've all had that fear of posting and being "flamed" or even ignored.

With free dining just being offered also, I think there are a lot of newbies on the boards, just trying to figure out stuff that some people think are "common" Disney knowledge. I think everyone should just take a breather and just help each other out.

That being said, if there was a genuine "fire starter" on the boards, I usually just ignore them.

Just popping in for a quick hi... I still have some more to catch up on, but I need to get into the kitchen to make dinner. DS is happily playing Playdoh, and we spent most of the day at the dollar store/party store/craft store hunting for deals (or at least reasonable prices) for stuff for his birthday party. YIKES! I've only got like 2 weeks left... there's no way I'll get this done.

And, its a crazy couple of weeks too, we're booked solid with stuff starting w/ his party and going forward at least a month. So, if I become scarce, y'all know why. But, I promise I'll at least bop in now and then! Even if its just to say hi.

OK, chicken needs to be turned over... see you all later!

Hi guys up and thought I'd pop in. From the looks of it we need a little popping latte:laughing:. Okay making stupid jokes but it's late.

Okay get it, sort of. Is the 'troll the newbie asking questions? or the 12,000 + posters who think they are the end all of the boards? Different viewpoints are fine. I've seen that many times on the DVC board. Someone will post something, it could be about their stay or something they had a problem with. Most of the time if they are a newbie (low post count), well you have all the Professional beloved Dis'ers posting. The problem is that why do you need to comment and b/c sarcastic? Most of the time the OP wasn't being rude they were stating something that had happened. Out of nowhere comes these comments:confused3. Funny, If one of the chosen few start a post they can say anything and the reg's will :worship: whatever they are saying.
Crazy, the way of the world:confused3 I guess. I don't go on that board to often, but if I see someone being :rolleyes1 that gets my goat and I do admit to chiming in to cover the underdog.
Guess everyone needs to remember we all came here b/c we loved Dis:goodvibes.

Yeah! party time:dance3:, what fun. Well please do pop to at least say 'hi'. At least we know where you went and you'll be back:thumbsup2.
Happy Party Planning.

Evening everyone! I missed you all chatting today but I was slowly getting stuff ready for DD's trip. She had to take any medicines she is bringing on the trip into school today. It all had to packed into a ziploc bag with their names and a "detailed instruction sheet" on how much they can take and how often. One of the chaperones will be carrying all the kids medicine baggies through airport security. I can just imagine the looks he will get while going through the security line. :scared1: :rotfl2:

MagiKitty-thanks for the idea about the portable phone charger. Picked one up tonight and for only 4.00. I feel so much better knowing that even if she forgets to charge the phone at night, she can quickly charge it wherever she is. I always read all these threads debating about younger kids having cell phones. And honestly, I think I would go crazy if she didn't have a cell phone. Maybe I'm overprotective but I can't imagine letting her go off with her friends without a way to get a hold of me if the need arises. Dreaming about the food at disney. :cloud9: Sounds like what I do. I love trying all the foods down there. Besides with all the walking you do in disney, you have eat a little more to balance it out.

M&N-I wanted to post about the hidden mickeys before you left for the weekend but (a common problem on here) I typed everything out and lost it all. We started looking for hidden mickeys last year and it was alot of fun. DH thought DD and I were wacky looking for them until he found his first one. Then it was whole different story. He was like one of those kids you see in the disney commercials. He spent the rest of our trip asking if I knew where anymore were suppose to be. The hidden mickey bood that is out if very good. One part will give you a general location of them and the other gives more detailed locations. We even found a hidden Jafar last year so that was kinda cool.

Be back in a minute to post some more. :goodvibes

ok, I'm back...DD4 had to use the potty....:rotfl:

lighttech-thanks for the heads-up about you up comming busy schedule. If you have time, let us know what kind of party DS wants or you are planning. And you will get everything ready in time. We are moms and that's what we do. :goodvibes Happy party planning!!! And please take it easy a little if you can.

disney54us-I have piles and piles of DD12's school papers. I just can't seem to get rid of any of them. And she's just as bad as I am....she doesn't want to get rid of anything yet either. We've really cleaned out her room the last couple of weekends but she won't touch that stuff yet. I would like to get rid of some of it but it just seems so sad. I don't have anything from when DS was young and in grade school (he didn't live with us then) so I'm really attached to DD stuff. I don't know...maybe one day I'll go through it all.

I know all about the troll threads on here. There's actually two seperate kinds of "trolls" First there are the real "trolls". They will register on here and start a thread about something they know is really controversial. Stuff such as pool hopping, saying your kids is 2 instead of 3 so you don't have to pay for a ticket for them. Or their very first post will be about how horrible disney is. They are looking just to cause trouble. They could even be a poster who was previously banned because of trouble making but re-registered under a different screen name. Those are the real "trolls" Then there are the real "newbies" who have no clue about disney. They ask the same questions about pool hopping and saying your kid is 2 instead of 3 (because their child turns 3 a week before their trip). Those people have no clue that they have just ventured into the lion's den with those questions. But what starts out as what these "newbie" posters think is an innocent question, turns into an all out war. The long time posters think this person is out to just cause trouble when really they are just clueless. I think the long term posters forget that at one point, they were the "newbie" who had no clue how things work in disney. I just think that some long time posters have to think back to when they were "clueless" too and cut some people some slack. As far as the threads bashing other posters or mods, I wan't no part of them. They just don't seem disney to me.

Ok, I think I've decided on doing a cruise next year for vacation. I have to run the idea past DH but well....he really has no say in it. :rotfl2: :rotfl: Only kidding. I'm thinking of a 4 day cruise and then spend the rest of the time location scouting for when we move. Of course, we'll hop on down and visit BIL and visit St. Petersburg beach. Thanks M&N and disney54us for your comments on the cruises.

Night all!!!!

Are we being too protective if we ask our TKers to give us a heads up if they are not going to be here for a while?

Now am I the troll for the above post or is the person who attacks me one? :confused3 Maybe it wasn't controversial enough.:rotfl:

Actually, just got on to see if anyone is awake yet but apparently not. (and I know with little ones, that's certainly not true!)

I forgot to post about the new Samantha Brown series-4-about Disney on the travel channel. First one was last Friday at 9 (check local listings). She dealt with her favs at DL and DW. My mom doesn't like heights---kept eyes closed on Soarin. She did for that part on TV too. I have never seen a person dressed like a vine at AK either. It looked like they were on stilts too...really neat. The rest are: On a Dime--April 18; Splurge--April 25; and Royal Treatment--May 2.

Better get moving here...check in later...

Night all!!!!

If your want to keep the papers and art, go to the craft store. In the scrapbook section they have containers and different size 'envelopes' that are acid free so the things will keep better and be protected. In the office supply stores the have page slips that are acid free that could be put in a binder. That's what I started doing some years back for the things I did keep. I didn't get rid of everything. I keep all the homemade cards and remember when they were younger many things would be made with their handprint? Have to keep that of course. Special artwork, etc. Just don't keep all their school work like math papers, spelling etc. I guess DD being my first, it was to hard to part with, she's a junior now so it's easier:thumbsup2.

Okay, now I think I have the troll thing down. Amazing that people have nothing better to do with their time but come on a board and register to start a agument:confused3. Wow, pretty sad and lonely life I would think.
As for the newbies asking questions, it does amaze me how people answer. I agree they must have forgotten what it was like to be new, or do they think everyone is born with a Disney info guide in their bodies.
Good luck to DD on her trip. I feel the same way about cell phones. They have them for me not for them:laughing:. I just like knowing I can contact them.
Cruise sounds great!!!!!! You'll love it. Ours were 3 nights and 4 days for us that was just right. We would go into Disney a couple b/f and then stay a couple after. Well can't wait till you get planning:banana:.

Are we being too protective if we ask our TKers to give us a heads up if they are not going to be here for a while?

:thumbsup2 great idea!!!!!

:rotfl2: :rotfl: funny.

Thanks for the info about the shows. Are they new??? or repeats????

The travel shows are new.
I'm glad 'we' can plan a cruise too. :cool1: I sure loved mine---even though it was short. I found a thread about what someone is doing 'at this very moment' on DCL and there's one for DW too. Of course some had to get 'smart' on them.
I told Whgrn TKers asked about her when I read her journal.

All this talk of trolling and journal reading...what's happening to our innocent TKers? Suspecting that someone was trolling is actually the reason I got a warning once that led to the thread lock. I meant no harm but was sure the person who started the thread was a troller because he/she was asking a very OBVIOUS question about pool hopping and made some other troll like comments. I made a sarcastic/funny comment back and I was the one who got in trouble. :sad2: Go figure. Learned my lesson quick.

Well, I did not try for Free Dinning as my DH came home from work the other night and said things at his job were getting unstable - looks of selling off the business. He had just been downsized out of a company he worked for over 10 years in 2006, so he can read the writing on the wall. Nothing has been told to the employees yet, but we decided to play it safe and try to save rather than spend money right now. Our Denver trip isn't costing us much except for gas since campsites are only $18 per night and we bring our own food. However, I may have to say good-bye to my "Waiting to Inhale" siggie for now. :sad1: Bummer! Might have to change it to
"I Didn't Inhale 2008"

You sound like the kids...It's Not My Fault! :rotfl:

Sorry about the job not looking good. Camping is fun. I took a tour from Denver, Yellowstone and Mt Rushmore. I love mountains.

Maybe your siggie can say 'Was going to inhale but my husband's stupid job fell through.' :rotfl: I'm sure the TKers will come up with something too and we can vote on it! I feel your dissapointment...

ok, I'm back...DD4 had to use the potty....:rotfl:

:rotfl: They have the best timing don't they! But, hey, I'm not complaining.... that's actually our current big news. DSalmost3 has been in big boy underpants for almost 2 whole days now!! Add that to the couple of days in pull-ups w/o incident and I am SO excited!!! (knock wood and stuff.) DH kept saying... "I just want like 1 week w/o diapers before the baby comes... just a small break please!" So, we've got a drawer stocked w/ DSs first big Disney purchases... Cars underpants, MickeyMouseClubHouse underpants... and Diego?? Not sure where that one came from... we don't even watch it.

lighttech-thanks for the heads-up about you up comming busy schedule. If you have time, let us know what kind of party DS wants or you are planning. And you will get everything ready in time. Night all!!!!

Its a dinosaur party. I spent most of the morning cutting out dinosaur silhouettes so DS can color them later today to use for decorations. I'm going to try a cool volcano cake I saw online... we'll see how it goes. You use Fluff and food coloring and dry ice to make it actually erupt! :scared1:

Good luck w/ the cruise plans!

Are we being too protective if we ask our TKers to give us a heads up if they are not going to be here for a while?

Nope. I'm glad you care!

We saw that cast member when DH and I went pre-kiddies a number of years ago. It was SO cool! Keep your eyes open. We didn't even realize that she/he was there at first. She was wrapped around a lamp post and then just came to life and started walking around. Amazing!

So sorry! Its getting kind of scary all over right now. I hope everything goes well with DHs job. Good for you for being sensible about the spending though. Its always good to be prepared. Not exactly the kind of suprise you want to be blindsided with. Hope its all just the general economic air of worry and not anything to be concerned about. BTW - "I Didn't Inhale" :rotfl: :lmao: :lmao:
How about... "I didn't Inhale, but I sure wanted to!"

Well, so much for staying off of here and getting my work done... I do intend to make myself a little scarce still, but I needed a break today. I know its going to be "pedal to the metal" for the next few weeks!

I agree that you can find the best, and most up-to-date info in the internet. The stuff you learn on this board is invaluable. But unless you're a Disney fanatic, most people aren't willing to invest the time and effort to search out the information.

For our recent family time, I bought 5-6 guide books. Following our family meeting about 30 days out, I gave each group a guidebook. Dad and Mom (in their 60's) got Birnbaum's WDW Without Kids, my younger bother and his wife (early 30's) got Birnbaum's WDW, and my youngest brother and his girlfriend (in their 20's) got The Complete Guide To WDW. I kept the big bible (Unofficial Guide To WDW). That way each group could research and plan whatever works best for them.

Welcome!!! I am so sorry I have not welcomed you yet. :goodvibes

Just noting everyone's "dwindling" concerns... so I wanted to stop by to say HI and I'm still here!

Me too. I would never EVER desert my fellow TK'rs!!!!

I ignore them too, but I still read the whole thread. :lmao:

You will get it done!!!

I agree with the 12K post thing. I don't care how many posts someone has. :goodvibes
Are we being too protective if we ask our TKers to give us a heads up if they are not going to be here for a while?

Good idea

So excited about the new disney show. Oh, I got some Moms package thingie in the mail. Anyone else get one?

You got a warning???? You are never mean to anyone.

Aaah....how lovely to check in and see my friends have been on here. Of course, now there's so much to comment on! I'll try my best.

Ok, seems we have the trolling thing settled. :thumbsup2 I must admit getting flamed really added to my anxiety about posting. And I agree, everyone needs to self-check and remember what it was like at all of our beginnings here on the DIS.

dreamin...so glad you got the charger! Really, I keep one in my glove box and it has saved my behind! I do have a car charger, but it takes a while, and I just pop the portable one in my bag and not have to worry about it! I would so not want to be the Medicine chaperone! That's going to be interesting! When does DD leave? Hope she has a fantastic time!

M&N...thanks so much for the heads up on the Samantha Brown series. I've seen it advertised, but never actually caught when it was going to be on. I so want to see DeVine at AK! She looked so cool!

D&D...sorry to hear about the maybe job problems. You are making the right decision...I always tell BF that Disney World isn't going anywhere and that if we can't swing a trip one year, that's cool. It'll only make the next trip more special. You're in my thoughts. Its a scary time right now and you're being smart. Sorry you won't be "inhaling" but that doesn't mean there's not more fun on the horizon for you!

lighttech...congrats on the big boy pants! I know you're excited for it, your little man! And a dinosaur party....my 28 year old sister would STILL have a dinosaur-themed party if we let her. And an erupting cake! You are a way cool mom!

pepperw...I got the Moms panel stuff too! It was really cool. Now I have a nice folder to put all my vacation planning in. BF is trying to get the mousepad, we're in negotiations...

Took Mom to the doctor today and looks like she'll have to get some surgery done on the knee. She is a terrible patient, so I really hope that there's a non-invasive alternative. We haven't told Dad yet (he's still running around on vacation). Trying to schedule a MRI tomorrow to really fully assess the knee. Keep your fingers crossed!

Now off to the restaurant board, nothing too much happens on there, but if something changes, I want to know! TTYL!

Magikitty,

Tell BF that he can have the mouse pad thingie, but he has to buy you one at WDW...either way ya win. :lmao:

Mine was missing the tinkerbell pin. Oh well I would have lost it anyway ha ha.

I am currently hoping to go Aug 24th -29th. Wish me luck and pixie dust. pixiedust: I just gotta come up with the dollars. :goodvibes I can do it though and worse case? I pay the deposit and do the "pay as I go" plan. Not getting too excited yet, but I have managed to drum up some interest out of DH when I mentioned "free food". Now if I can just get him to understand I gotta book NOW or there will be "no room at the inn".

Keeping my fingers crossed for your Mom.

I am going up to the trip planning boards too, just in case, so I'll see ya there.
