Just checking in. So much happens over the weekend. Sick cars, sick Killers, sick computers, dead mouse. Hope everyone is doing better. Glad we had some good stories to share too with found kitty and first haircuts.
We're in for :cold: :cold: weather. I had a good weekend because I love NASCAR and my fav driver won the Bud Shootout....Dale Jr changed car numbers and sponsors so it was hard to keep up with him on the track. He was in a neat commercial for AMP energy drink where he's carrying a camel. Much better commercial than those in super bowl.
Anyone have special plans for Valentine Day?

You watch NASCAR too?! I thought I was the only one on our thread. :woohoo: I'm a big Rusty Wallace fan amd since he retired, I just can't seem to pick another driver. I like other guys but the loyalty is strong. I saw that commercial too and it was better than most of the Superbowl ones. But it's still not as good as ones in the past.

Morning Killers. :cold: I'm not going out today except to get the mail in. It's white out but not snowing now. Calling for 1-3 inches...turning into freezing rain. Someday their prediction will be right and it looks like today may be it. I just hate it when the groundhog is right.
I'm taking my mom and a friend's mom who is like a second mom to me out for lunch on Thurs. I don't have a sweetie either but it's a good excuse to eat out! My dad died in 1990 and my friend's died in Oct. They both miss their sweeties so I thought it would be a good treat. My dad's bday was the 17th and their anniv the 19th so it's still a hard time for mom.
Keep warm...

They're talking snow for NJ too. Not much here--probably just a coating. We tend to be on the better side of the rain/snow line. Thank God! At least it won't be as cold as yesterday. I have to go to the doctor, and I wouldn't enjoy being out in 10 degree weather. NOT that 25 is a whole lot better... :cold:

Later killers!

Good Morning Killers, it's grey and cold, but I hold out hope!!!! In the 40's tomorrow, so they say:confused3, of course that comes with rain:eek:. Valentine's plans?? Not many except there's a huge party at DS's school. The 4 & 5 graders have pen pals from a nearby senior apartment housing and for V-Day they invite their pen pals for a Valentine's party. They put on little performances and we have desserts, that they will serve their pen pals. There will be a total of about 75 adults and kids. I'm the room mom, so I've been trying to coordinate all this. The funny thing is the decorating theme is patriotic not Valentines:confused3. There performances are based on a patriotic theme and Sister wants to use red, white and blue decorations. She told me 'Valentines is red and white, so just add blue', she is so funny, and so worried about this party. Oh goodness, just went to get a fresh cup of coffee and there's wet snow flakes:confused3, we were not in the snow line we were to get rain if anything. I swear the weather people can't draw their lines correct!!! So that's the big V-day plans, we do have a dinner to go to tonight, locally.

NASCAR, when my DN lived with us when her DH was in Iraq on his 2nd tour, she grew up a fan so she was always watching it. I must say I developed a interest and do like it. My DS got into it w/her and they have this teasing going on she's a Jr fan and he likes #48, (is that Jimmy Johnson or the other cutie??). Even when she moved back, they would call and torture each other like ha ha your guys out, your guy crashed, my mom got him a matchbox and it was JRs and he added a 4 to the 8. I laugh how 'mainstream' is has become when they started showing one of the big races a few months back on ABC sports. It's fun would love to go to one of the races.

I don't think I posted this on this thread, I think I posted it on a TR I'm reading. Just forgive me if I'm repeating myself.
Anyway, about the Valentine's question.
DH ordered a teddy bear with chocolates and three roses to send to our DD at her school she goes to 3 days a week. (Remember we home school, but she takes classes at this school set up for home schoolers.)
I would love to see her face when she receives these. She is going to flip and possibly cry.
I plan on taking DS out for a surprise Japanese lunch. (He loves Japanese food)
When the kids become teens it becomes more of a "Single Awareness Day" instead of Valentine's Day.
We are just trying to help.

Very sweet:love: and cool!!!

Just look at there faces:rotfl:, oh and if they're 'good guys' in their private life!!

Sounds really nice what you do. I'm sure mom and friend appreciate it!!:goodvibes

Oh, almost forgot:confused:, noticed Praise2him hasn't been on and if I remember correctly she is from AL. I hope she faired well with those bizarre Tornado's that hit that region, last week.

Good morning everyone.
Nothing much going on over here.
Trying to catch up on a lot of paper work.
Very boring.
Stay warm, stay well, stay safe, (Did I leave out anything?)
:hippie:

good morning killers!

not much here either. i was up (again) last night with DS. i have to say, if he wasn't so cute there would really be a problem. although when you're up from 1 to 3, the cuteness tends to fade. he was just trying to play with me the whole time! looking back it was pretty hilarious. i can laugh about it now!

anyway, cold here in ny, but no snow. they said maybe sunday, i think.

we don't really have any big plans for valentine's day. there is a slight chance we'll go out to dinner, but maybe friday instead. we try to make it more about the kids, though. a little treat and a special card. maybe a craft or something. DD loves that kind of stuff so she's happy with that.

tomorrow's teacher appreciation day at school, and i'm making an apple pie, since the theme is country brunch. anyone make apple pies? i learned from my mom and grandmother and they're delicious but they are usually a little bit runny. i've read that the kind of apples you use can do that. anyone have any advice for me? thanks!!

hey guys! Just a quick hello before I go back and play catch up on all the postings. Talk to you later!

Morning killers!

magsnden - I use granny smith apples in my apple pies and they're usually not runny. Do you make your own crust? How do you make yours?

Hey magikitty! You haven't been around lately, glad to see you back.:)

ok, i skimmed most of the postings and there's just so much!

magsnden...i second using granny smiths when baking. they're a more dense apple and hold up welll. you may want to cut them up then toss them in a little flour before putting them in so they stay crisp.

we're due for 3-6 inches up here, but that usually translates to 8-10. it is bitterly bitterly cold, but at least the wind died down.

disney54us....the senior pen pal valentine's day party is quite possibly the sweetest thing i've heard of. I personally have a soft spot for persons of a "certain age". My mom used to work in a nursing home and I used spend lots of time there with all my "grannie and g-paws". What a wonderful program bringing kids and seniors together.

I had such a good time this weekend! Got totally lost finding the hotel, but once there it was great! We stayed in Jersey, but there was a ferry across the river. We did Times Square, Madame Tussauds, shopping. We got 1/2 price tickets to Xanadu--which was fantastic! We went out and had so much fun despite the freezing weather. The Spice Girls put on a great show! But all the little girls near us--what were they, 3, 4 years old when the Spice Girls were out?

Here's where I show my age--all these little girls were dressed "so 80's"---leggings, heels, teased hair and tight tops. But the Spice Girls were in the 90's...and I was so mad that they got the 80's wrong! And these parents! Letting their daughters run around without jackets in freezing weather in heels and mini skirts! They looked like tramps!

Ok, I feel better. The show was great and yes! Posh Spice does move! I've never seen her move so much, and yes, she does smile. David Beckham was there too! Now, that's a hunk of burning love.

Valentine's Day? BF and I don't do that. We save all holiday love money for Disney.

Welcome back, feel better, stay warm and safe, be strong and happy everyone! I missed you guys!

Hey Guys! :wave2: long time no post

Wanted to say "hi" and hope everyone is doing well.

I have been working hard on June Vaca, had a slight hiccup, but all worked out. (duh, I told them 5 months ago if they wanted any more ADRs they'd better "speak now or forever hold yer peace!")

It was days, on the phone, calling MS and DH and BIL but all is settled now and I didn't even have to get out the flyin' monkeys!
That's been a runnig joke with DD and I for 5 years.

:thanks:lighttech for the info on the Ecology books she wants to get the one for kids.
DD turned in her science fair project yesterday.
She named it "Got (greenhouse)Gases?" Heres a picture of her title- I forgot to take pictures of the enitire project -I don't know where my head was?:confused3

Actually it was a great project and performed very well if I do say so myself.
I hope she does well. :pixiedust:
The competition is really stiff and the boys in her grade don't want to see 1st place go to a girl(her)again.

Stay Warm Stay:cool2:
Gotta batton down the hatches, the weather is turning ugly!
More later!

Thought you ran away with David:laughing:, Glad to hear Victoria moves and smiles:thumbsup2. Sounds like it was a great time!!! I love the whole senior pen pal thing to. The reason 5th grade is involved is b/c they continue it from 4th and into 5th, which is nice. It gives the kids time to get to know their pen pals. Of course, since the school is closing in June my DS won't have that opportunity next year:sad1:.

Was wondering where you've been??? Girl Power go Bobsmom DD:cheer2:. Be safe w/ the weather!!!

Okay I really should be cleaning and :laundy: so I have to go and attempt to get something done before pick up time:laughing:.

MMMMM homemade apple pie, I'm a foodie can't really handle desserts, my DS (sister not son:laughing: ) makes her own, her MIL's recipe, I believe she uses granny smiths.

hi everyone!

didn't really read everything, i was just checking for the apple pie info! thanks everyone for the advice. i bought some granny smiths. i usually like to mix 2 kinds of apples, but i almost always use 2 reds, so i'll try with the granny's and something else maybe. i just find them a little tart.

so i do make my own crust (to me, there is no choice. store crusts just do not compare). i used to use my mom's recipe, but it's very hard to roll out so now i use my grandmother's. it is extremely buttery, but does taste really yummy, and is a cinch to roll. i could post the recipe if anyone's interested.

ok i'll catch up later, both kids sick and need lots of tlc today. poor things.

Its been snowing here most of the day. Not a lot of accumulation yet, but we'll see. Hopefully it won't be too dicey tomorrow. DH is a big Jr fan. And, I agree, I kept forgetting what color to look for. But, I do like some of the new looks. The kind of old style Mt. Dew car is cool.

You watch NASCAR too?! I thought I was the only one on our thread. :woohoo: I'm a big Rusty Wallace fan amd since he retired, I just can't seem to pick another driver. I'm not officially a fan, but I watch w/ DH. I never thought I would like it, and simply enjoyed being lulled to sleep by the sound of 43 motors going left for a long time, but the more I learned technically, the more I enjoyed it. I still can't focus for a whole race, but I always check in if DH is watching. In theory, I'm a Kevin Harvick fan, but I just sort of adopted him the first season I watched so I'd have someone to root for. I haven't been impressed w/ some of his antics recently. (I also like Tony Stewart, but b/c he came on an interview on QVC once and was SO nice... not really b/c I know a lot about his racing. Not sure why I go for the drivers w/ anger management issues! :confused3 )

So sweet. Good for you.

hi everyone!

Poor kiddos. (and mom) I hope they feel better. DS has been battling a nasty stomach flu. (So have I. I got it Friday night, he got it Saturday.) We're both on the mend, but right now he's just very frustrated w/ me that I won't let him eat what he wants and keep trying to get him to sleep! My little ball of winter energy. He REALLY needs a few warm days to run around the yard.

Gotta run, wasted most of my "rest time" break dealing w/ a mis-processed mortgage payment instead of getting anything accomplished.

MagiKitty Sounds like you had a fun time. :cool2:

Bopsmom Good Luck to your DD on her science project. :thumbsup2

Here's my wayward kitty:

I've figured out how to post pictures. :cool1:

That is SOOO nice!!! What a sweet idea! I bet the kids enjoy it as much as the seniors do.

Definitely Granny Smiths, but you need to add a sweeter, red apple for flavor. I use 1/2 Granny Smith and 1/2 Macintosh or Jonamac. Works like a charm every time!! But make my own crust? Heaven forbid!! When I've tried, it comes out AWFUL!! So I've been buying the Pillsbury roll up kind. So bad for you. I'm switching to the whole grain ones in the organic section. Only problem is, they're frozen, and just bottom crusts. So, what do I do for a TOP crust??? (NOT that I'm likely to be making any pies in the forseeable future!!!)

Yes, please post the recipe magsnden! Learning to make a good pie crust is one of my cooking goals. that and fried chicken. Sorry kids are sick. I hope everyone is better soon.:)

Oh I forgot.
D&DDisney - I love your Pooh in your signature.:thumbsup2

Thanks! Although when I read it the first time, I laughed. Pooh in my signature - yuck! I was looking for something for Valentine's day but since it is Thurs, I figured I'd go for the next holiday. :)

Well, it's still snowing...and snowing...and snowing...and snowing...well, you get the picture. :cold: :cold: :cold: :cold:
Please make it stop!!!!!!!!:headache:

Just wanted to chime in that my DH is a HUGE Nascar fan. His favorite driver is Matt Kennseth since he's a local boy made good. Whenever we drive to WDW we have to make the pilgrimage to Daytona to :worship: the great race track. He's got it all figured out. When we retire we will get in our Winabago (sp?) and follow the Cup series. And, since I love to travel, I said I'd go along.

Bopsmom - Love the science project. :thumbsup2 Hope she wins!

Valentines day is not a big deal here. We do exchange cards and go out to eat. Mainly because we met each other 2 days after Valentines day and we celebrate our anniversary.

Keep sending that :beach: weather my way!

Hey everyone. What a day it's been. Bad weather, DH got lost going to a new job, bad weather, and to top it all off, the computer crashed. Finally got most things back on here but it was hard work. WOW...lots of nascar fans on here.

Bopsmom- Have you been over to the design board yet. Lots of designers have called it quits. Amy has a whole thread explaining. But I do have a picture for you....

DL55-Glad the kitty is back. Great pictures. I miss having a cat but the puppy is a handful, along with the kids and DH.

D&DDisney-here's some more :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

Gotta go....didn't get to write as much as I wanted but the kids are hungry. Be back later....
