Anyone else watching? What a wonderful tribute.

President Clinton just finished speaking - the man should have been a preacher (for his speaking skills). I was never a "political" follower of his, but the man has a way with words & with an audience.

Oooops! I meant to post this on the Community Board. Sorry.

I will move it over there for you.
:)

As one from outside the USA, I had a great regard for Mrs. King. She was a lady of great grace. Was I the only one appalled at the political overtones. This should have been a tribute to a gracious women ,it turned out to be a group of people blowing their own horns and getting far to political for such an occasion. shame on them.

I know she was a wonderful lady, but is there a reason as to why she was at the Capital Building? I thought that was for Presidents.

It was the capitol of Georgia. The most recent person to lie in state in the national capitol in Washginton was a Supreme Court justice, not a president.

I agree, I actually thought the political rhetoric was disrespectful to the King family.

Maybe they just can't help it? :confused3

Oh, ok, I need to spend more time watching the news. Thanks for the clarification.

I'm sure they can, but they most likely chose not to. There's a time and a place for everything. Personally, I don't think the funeral of anyone is a place for political grandstanding. That speaks volumes of the content of the character of those who selected that venue to make their comments.

While I myself probably wouldn't inject politics into a funeral speech, the Reverend who made those comments was invited by the King family to speak and although I don't know for sure, most likely knew Mrs. King well, and also her political leanings. This was a family funeral where people were invited to speak about Mrs. King and things they felt were germaine to her life and her beliefs. I haven't heard any of the King children express regret for the Reverend's comments.

I was apalled at the politics being thrown into this. That was totally uncalled for. This was a funeral for a great woman, not a political rally.

A great woman, yes. But also a woman from a family with a strong tradition of political and social involvement.

Absolutely, and Jimmy Carter lead the charge. The man is shameless. He should stick to building houses, keep the hammer in his hand and the nails in his big mouth.

Yes, being a humanitarian who devotes his life to helping others less fortunate and to help to foster peace in the world is such a worthless excuse of a life to lead. I wonder what lofty endeavours President Bush will devote himself to when he leaves office.

I'm going out on a limb here, because I usually try not to speculate what would happen, but try and stick with facts. However, I wonder what we'd all be saying right now if the tables were turned. If it was someone trashing a democratic president like this at a funeral. I wonder.

The same thing is said by both sides for every political arguement and will continue to be said until politics cease to exist. That said, todays event was not a bash fest for anyone. It was funeral for the matriarch of a very political family and the people that are obsessing on the words said by a family invited speaker and putting the emphasis of this day on an elected official instead of the deceased are the ones doing a diservice to this wonderful woman's memory, imho.

Yup, "peace at any price"! He should stick to building houses and keep his mouth shut.

Well, at least he has a Nobel Peace Prize on his shelf, something I doubt the current President will ever set his eyes on.
