Well, at least he has a Nobel Peace Prize on his shelf, something I doubt the current President will ever set his eyes on.

Or Dawn, for that matter..............

So does Yasser Arafat. It goes to show how "meaningful" it is. It was given to him in an attempt to embarrass President Bush.

The so-called "peace prize" is damaged goods. :sad2:

The DEMS pulled a "Wellstone" today. (Is Mondale running again?)

As much as you believe the rest of the non-terrorist world is somehow out to get us, Dawn, isolationism does not and will not work. My apologies to the OP for the brief direction change this thread has taken. Rest In Peace, Mrs. King.

And yes, Joe, the entire funeral was a Democratic conspiracy.

What "isolationism" ??

The isolationalists are the ones who want the USA to ignore the world. The USA is very pro-active across the world in helping people.

Joe, in a previous post, you declared that "I find Mr. Cheney to be very calm, comforting, and reassuring.", and Dawn echoed your thoughts in the very next post on this thread;

What do the two of you think would have happened that after voting as a congressman against making MLK day a holiday if vice president Dick Cheney had been at the funeral, and do you agree with his vote back when he was a congressman?

RIP, Mrs. King

Well, I'm not Joe or Dawn but I'll field this one. I support Cheney's vote. There's too many national holidays, and although MLK was obviously a great leader, he holds no special right to have a national holiday. Personally, I could care less about MLK Day, Columbus Day, Presidents Day, or half a dozen other "holidays."

Do you think if JFK and the Dems had to do it over again they would still spy on MLK and wire tap his phone conversations?

Ditto. I find it hard to believe that Dr. King, as great as he was, is the most deserving American when it comes to a national holiday.

Yes, I like Cheney. :sunny:

He voted against another holiday. Big deal. What is the limit? I don't get the day off. (boo hoo)

Why would people be upset if Cheney was at the funeral? Did Cheney insult Mr. King merely because he did not give the nation another holiday?

I have nothing against more holidays. ;) We can agree or disagree on whose past deeds warrants another.

Uh, I believe you'll find that was the mastermind of the great J. Edgar Hoover, staunch Republican supporter.

And Republicans wonder why they don't have more African American support. :rotfl2:

Yes, being a humanitarian who devotes his life to helping others less fortunate and to help to foster peace in the world is such a worthless excuse of a life to lead. I wonder what lofty endeavours President Bush will devote himself to when he leaves office.
I'm sure he won't be going to other countries and speaking out against America like ol' Jimmah does... :rolleyes1

Then all Democrats need to do is offer up an old, rich, white man holiday.

Bingo!

Oh, least I forget the obligatory :rotfl2:

And authorized by the Attorney General (RFK).

Is that the secret -- more holidays? Only if I get the day off! ;)

As usual, you missed the point. It's not about holidays, it's about respecting a man who the African American people rightly see as their liberator and civil rights leader. But if you want to make more holiday jokes, go right ahead.

Again, it's more than just about a holiday, but either you get it or you don't.

And he can only be respected if he has a national holiday?

Tell me, do you believe that out of all of the great figures in American history, Dr. King is the only one that is worthy of his own national holiday? He's it?

No, we wonder why they support Democrats. It was the party of Lincoln who voted for the passage of the Civil Rights Act. You know, those mean, nasty Republicans.
