Thoughts on Cars Land replacing Tom Sawyer Island at The MK

I don't think the location of the Monsters Inc. land has been confirmed. I've heard speculation it could be the Animation Courtyard area.
I agree - I haven’t heard or seen anything yet too. I heard speculation about it being where The Muppets are, but I can’t envision that being enough room to have what was discussed at D23

I don't think I've been over to TSI in about 20 years. It's never worth waiting for the raft just to go over an walk around, as there's not much to actually do over there. I've only done the river boat a handful of times, too. So yeah, I'm not all that upset to lose either.

Is my understanding correct in that the new Cars attraction would not be like Radiator Springs in DCA but more of a 'kiddie ride'?

Overall, I love the idea. I'm actually a fan of the Cars movies, at least 1 and 3, and the universe lends itself to some great theme park lands and attractions. Carsland in DCA is my favorite land in the California Parks.

My one concern will be the sightlines. I don't want to be standing in Liberty Square and see cars zooming past.

There’s 2 attractions. One may be more like Radiator Springs just off-road style, the other on the artwork currently gives off Mater’s Junkyard vibes but I’m hopeful that’s not the case since there already is Alien Swirling Saucers that uses that.

Though it’s not like MK doesn’t also have 2 Dumbo type attractions in the same park.

There will actually be two Cars attractions. It sounds like one will be more of a thrill ride, and the other more of a kiddie ride.

This is from the Disney Parks Blog post:

"One attraction will invite you on a thrilling rally race through the mountains. Take on wild terrain as you race across the landscape climbing mountain trails, dodging geysers and — Mater’s favorite — splashing through mudholes.

But what about smaller racers? The second attraction will be geared towards them and will be fun for the whole family."

I loved the lack of development on Tom Sawyer Island and the peace in the middle of controlled pandemonium but oh well guess it’s time for progress to envision another look.

I don’t like them taking out such old things when they have empty land to expand on. Looks like they also are going to get rid of rivers of America eventually which is upsetting too. The worst is getting rid of muppets for the monsters inc land. Looking forward to the land but not at the expense of the muppets. They keep saying they have all this land to expand….
I hadn't heard about this and I wondered if this thread was even correct initially, but I see there's been an announcement made.

I agree with the above, it's not so much the attraction going away that bugs me, but the dramatic impact of energy change and the loss of the rivers that I question. Part of what has always been respected as a storytelling device is the building of excitement/tension, releasing the energy, a bit of a wind down and then the excitement starting to ramp up again. It seems as if there is zero attention left to the importance of that slower pace within the telling of the story.

The attraction may turn out to be very enjoyable in and of itself, which would be wonderful. A big part of the Disney difference used to be taking it that extra step further, leading guests deeper and deeper into a web of magic spun all around by the totality of the experience that gave context to moving from outer space into a fairy tale land, etc. I wonder how much understanding of those types of ideas still exists within the company these days -- and how much determination there is to follow up on it?

Definitely what I have heard too - it looks and sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun!

I've never thought about it this way, and I really appreciate you posting it.
This is a great insight to all of this, and one I probably won't forget. :-)

Little sad about it. Riding the Riverboat was peaceful and fond memories of my kids playing on the island when they were young.
Same. we went over the TSI last trip and reminsced of the kids playing there. It was weird how empty it was, back 15-20 years ago it was always filled with kids running around. Times change and I understand it leaving.

...if it's anywhere NEAR how Car Land is set up in DL, it's going to be AWESOME and AMAZING! My guess is they will have to construct some sort of bridge which doesn't impede the course of Liberty Square Riverboat....

Yes. The concept art shows the Liberty Belle Platform in the foreground and there’s no boat:

It is a positive in my book that they're not just trying to retread the current Radiator Springs attraction and shoehorn it into MK. A completely new experience within the Cars narrative is appreciated.
