Hi there- Last week we were trying to figure how many points. (By the way we increased our original contract and are now waiting for new paperwork.) Anyway, we originally thought we would bank and then make a trip in 2005. Hello .......that lasted for a day, now we can't wait to take a trip to our "new home" (BCV) ASAP. Of course we just returned from a 10 day trip so we aren't going again this year. I'm wondering how August is, both weather wise and crowd wise??? We usually go in late April/early May, but I don't want to pull my daughter out of school next year. I'm told 3rd grade is really tough. In an efoort to use less points we are looking at the end of August. Any thoughts and feedback would be greatly appreciated.

We are going to wdw for the first time during August, we usually go in February(crowded but not hot) We are going from August the 16th to the 27th, So I can certainly let you know! However, from many of the postings it sounds like hit the parks early, take a break back to the pool/room and then hit the parks in the evening. Bring lots of water with you into the park and listen to the kids, when they say they are hot and tired, take a break, the weather is hot and humid and can put a real strain on the body.

It is hot and humid that is for sure. The last couple of weeks of August the crowds fall off . There is always more chance of a hurricane situation that time of year. The summer is not the time to go to WDW but I understand your situation. Have fun.

HOT, HOT and more HOT and humid too. I LOVE late August early Sept. Most of the kids are back in school, the crowds are down and it wonderful.
Hurricane Season is from the 1st of June through November.

The weather is very hot and humid. We used to go in the beginning of August because where we work would shut down for the first two weeks in August. Now we can go when ever we want. It is usually crowed that time of the year also. Since it is open late it is best to take a pool break during the day. We go in December now. Less crowded and beautiful Christmas decorations.

Enjoy your trip!!!!!!!!!!

I am also going for the first time in August this year. The 17 - 22. Where are you staying JonesmatNY? I'll be at the BWV.

If everyone goes to the parks early and leave during midday, then the parks should be empy during the afternoon?

We went to BWV in late August 2001. Yes, it was hot but the crowds were low. Walk on most rides. After 1 PM was always reserved for the resort pool. We are going again (OKW) for the last 2 weeks of August this year.

This year we are trying August for the first time (same reason but the kids are older and the time off would hurt more). Given that it feels like it is about 40 degrees now in June in NJ I'm figuring on a cool 78 degrees in FL in August.

Well I can dream can't I?:smooth:

As everyone else has said, in August it will be very hot and humid but I just came back last week and it was just as hot and humid the end of May this year as it has been many times I have been there in August. It is FL, and for a large majority of the year the weather in FL is hot, humid and with a chance of showers/thunderstorms. We always laugh and say why do they even bother updating the daily weather report, it is always the same for most of the year! If you go to the parks early in the AM and then come back and hit the pool in the afternoon or chill out in your room and then return to the parks, DTD etc in the evening, you will be fine. I do not know if you have ever been to WDW when it is high 80's-90's and very humid but it gets very hot and sticky come noon, so you will want to be back enjoying the pool and your air conditioned room at your resort and then return to the parks when it gets cooler and you are again cooled off and relaxed.
The closer you are to the end of August the less the crowds will be because at this pt all the southern school districts are back and most of the northern etc districts are starting very soon, so therefore most families have completed their summer vacations. The rates for resort rooms also drop at the end of August into the fall but also the parks begin to close earlier and the nighttime shows are shown less especially MK fireworks and SpectroMagic.
Have a great trip!

Thanks for all the info DeeP :)

Maybe we should have a NY DIS meet in Aug. :sunny:

DaisyDebbie,
I would love to have a DIS meeting in WDW this Aug, but unfortunately I am not going this yr in Aug! I was just there from mid May to the end of May and I am not returning until mid Sept. I am also not from NY, but I did go to college there. You are very close though--for me it is NJ for the majority of the year and the rest of the year I am in FL. It makes me laugh though, because when I am in FL a lot of people always say I must have been born in NY, NJ or Phila.--- I guess it must be my accent! Can you imagine!?? Go figure!! LOL!
A very good friend of mine that lives in FL year round, but was orginally from NYC, refers to my accent all the time and it makes me laugh because she doesn't sound any different then I do even though she has lived full time in Fl for the past 20 yrs! LOL!!! I guess the Northeastern accent is something you never get rid of, even on discussion boards!!!!! LOL!!! :)
Have a wonderful, magical trip and make sure you take a pool/resort break in the afternoon, that is the secret to handling the FL heat and humidity at WDW!!!

It'll be our first August trip, and although I am nervous about the heat (yeah-yeah I know it's not the heat its the humidity :teeth: ), I don't have many other options. We went last October (and the October before that) and bought AP's...so we wanted to get another trip ou of our AP's. We were break even on them during our last trip, so this trip August 26-Sept 6 is free as far as admission goes. Earlier in October is out of the question due to work, and later in September is tough for the same reason. So we decided we'd do End of August Early September and see how it goes.

Besides a hot and humid or even rainy day at WDW is better than a sunny day in the office ;)

We took our first August (summer) trip last year and were pleasantly amazed at how managable the crowds were! We are also going this year from Aug. 17-22. I'm really starting to get a bit stressed though! I think the FTP is really going to throw the crowd "norm" for this time of year out of wack!

I guess I'm just bugged, since this will be our first trip "home" and had it booked long before the FTP came about! Like others, we are in the position that taking the kids out of school is not a real option anymore, except maybe for long weekends (ouch - those points!)

Well, I guess that's what DVC is for! We'll just take it slow, knowing we'll be back!

Assume it's going to be hot and humid, and plan accordingly. Drink lots of water, bring and wear lots of sunscreen, get to the parks early, leave at midday when it gets really hot and go back to your hotel and go to the pool and to rest for the afternoon, and go back out at night when it cools down again. Since the parks are open later, that plan works well.

Not taking the kids out of school is the only reason we go down to Disney every August. We still have an Excellent Vacation.
More pool time, water parks & afternoon breaks are the rule of thumb. May vacations would be our first choice but August vacations work out for our family right now.

We go in August -first 2 weeks due to the school issue but really I think that it is very manageable... Go early in the morning, do the a/c rides when it is hot - time off in the afternoon for pool and cool down and the back for later in the day.

Some parks are better than others with the heat. Epcot you can stay all day.. so much a/c space - land, living seas, etc. AK is the worst, nowhere to go to escape the heat... we do it early and then hop somewhere else.

Lots of water, we can go through 5 or 6 water bottler per day for each of us. Needless to say we bring our own frozen water bottles.

We travel every august, usuallynthe third week. we love it....if you follow the advice given earlier, and you go early. Rest in the middle (use the pool). Then take naps, and go back to the parks for dinner and rides and shows (illuminations, fantasia, magic kingdom fireworks). You will be fine......You also can use the evening to take in the hoop-dee-doo, or maybe cirque-du-solei, or maybe a stroll along the boardwalk....all in all we have a blast!!!

We've gone for 10 days from mid to end of August for the last three years because of kids in high school. Yes its very hot but last year it was hotter at home (western Mass) then it was in Florida and we had the option to go on air conditioned rides, or water rides. The crowds are usually not too bad, well they haven't been for the last three years, after this post i'm starting to worry. Kinda feels like we'll all be down there in August. August 17 to the 27th, BCV. looking forward to meeting some of the "family" when I go "home. I'll be the one with the bottle of water glued to my hand.

Have a great trip!

Just to let you know, Florida public schools begin back to school on AUGUST 5th! That should lessen the crowds a bit during the week, anyway.

But, it will be HOT, HUMID and OPPRESSIVE! Be aware and take advantage of visiting the parks in the morning, taking a break in the afternoon, and going back in the evening.

Have fun!

We went the last week of August last year since our schools start after labor day. We were having a very hot summer up here, so being down there it did not seem any worse. The lines were not bad at all. We plan on doing it again next August. The only thing is, MGM and MK started on an earlier closing time -- there were no fireworks at all while we were there (Sun - Fri). So if you think you can go back to the hotel for a break and then go back at night, that may not work.
