Thoughts on 2011 vs 2012 discounts

My family is planning our next trip for Oct/Nov 2012. There are lots of factors that make this the ideal time for our next visit, however I'm getting concerned about discounts.

With the exception of our first trip, we have always traveled with a discount and would not stay on property without one. The early release of some 2011 discounts has me wondering if 2012 is when Disney expects things to turn around with the opening of the Fantasyland expansion and the new Animation Value resort.

I know we need a crystal ball for these answers, but what are your thoughts on 2012? Do you think significantly more people will schedule a 2012 visit for the new attractions? Do the current discounts indicate that Disney is worried people will put off a visit until these new attractions open?

And yes, I'm aware that I'm neurotically planning for a vacation that is 2 years away. And dreaming of it everyday! ;)

Don't worry, we're in the same boat! :thumbsup2 Don't quite know what to expect! But haven't really done a ton of research yet as we just got back from our 1st trip! We're looking into December 2011 but its not set in stone though yet!

I think if this economy doesn't pick up, Disney will be behind and not able to open the new stuff in 2012.

Unemployement is at the highest rate in something like 25 years. Don't really see this changing anytime soon. I think foreclosures were really up, too. It takes a while to recover from this. People without jobs and with no homes will take a long while to catch back up.

Disney will either have to offer some good incentives or slow down on their price increases!

I don;t think the deep discounts have anything to do with the renovations or construction. It has everything to do with the economy, unemployment, etc. I think if things haven't turned around by 2012, we can still expect the discounts so Disney can try to get as many people in the parks & resorts as they can.
Most of the people I know that do Disney regularly aren't putting off their plans just because of the renovations, they're going regardless, lol.

I agree with both posters above.

If the economy, unemployment, housing etc is still tanking there will be discounts.
