My 70 something year old Mom and me (38 year old) went to Walt Disney World last week. We both had a great time together on the trip. Here's some things that I learned that can help those with our situation:
-Make sure your scooter gets a full night's charge. On a couple of days of the trip, the scooter's charge lasted only about six hours or a little less. It does recharge fairly quickly though.
-Choose a smaller resort/hotel over a bigger one can make all of the difference in the world. I love Port Orleans French Quarter and want to make that my home resort. It felt like New Orleans to me and my Mom. We got two beds in our room, which is what we wanted. The beds are heavenly to me and better than the one at my house.
-Crowds were at a reasonable level for Disney world. Meaning that they were not as bad as July back a few years ago, but more crowded than the March 2013 solo trip.
-The older I get, the more I gravitate towards having a sit down meal over Counter Service. Four of my best meals were at Sit Downs while my worst was at a counter Service. Mom and I really enjoyed Raglan Road and Morimoto Asia. Will give more on Dining forum on that.
-I realize that Magic is the memories you make more than the cast members make. Giving Mom the first chance to see Illuminations was amazing. She has fallen in love with it and now has the soundtrack to Illuminations.
-Among the new things I did this time was Country Bear Jamboree, Frozen Sing A Long, Flag retreat, Festival of Fantasy Parade, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Symphony in the Sky Fireworks. Country Bear Jamboree is something you would have to pay me to ever see again. It is a Country music wrapped stereotype with cute bears doing the singing. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train is something I would currently only do with a FP+. I can't see spending 110 minutes to ride this.
-After seeing Frozen Sing A long, I think people are underestimating how popular Frozen Ever After is going to be. At a 7:30 PM Friday (EMH night) showing, Theater was packed and people were singing along to the music. I think that Epcot is going to be very busy this summer.
-Best new thing I saw was Festival of Fantasy Parade. That is beautiful, amazing and has great music. I want to see that Parade again and again.
-One of the best things I did was to take the first bus I saw a couple of afternoons after a break. It was heading to Magic Kingdom, so I grabbed it and got to it in time to see Festival of Fantasy Parade.
