Thoughts about new CDC guidelines and how it might affect your Disney vacation.

Our trip isn’t until Sept. I’m now much more optimistic about what could be back by then.
Pretty sure at minimum there will be:

• no mask requirement outside
• 3’ physical distancing
• nighttime spectacular(s)
• shows and more shows :^)

And hopefully the Magic Minutes resort perk.

I can’t really say if we’d postpone due to young kids. Not an easy choice. We did visit in January with DS18 while all unvaccinated. Mitigation measures were still in place though. The plane ride felt like the riskiest part. Fortunately we hadn’t gotten infected and now we’re finally all vacc’ed. Thanks to all the brains and brawn that made it possible.

Until my children can vaccinate, I will personally continue to wear my mask. Further, my job has not changed the requirements at all.

I agree kids can still catch this virus and I am not letting my guard down until my tween is fully vaxed.

Yes,I think the only uncertainty now is will Masks be optional Outdoors AND Indoors or just Outdoors.

Things are rapidly beginning to happen.

Looks like the College Program CMs will be rolling into town at just the right time to at least partially miss the UNBELIEVEABLE headache the Cast Members have been enduring trying to get Guests to comply with the mask mandate.

Wouldn't be surprised if they might be doing a little Happy Dance!lol

I have seen this argument made about any number of things over the years and it just doesn't hold water. Part of operating as a society is working together regardless of whether or not you agree, and basic access to health care is part of that. That includes drunk drivers, texting and driving accidents, preventable diseases like heart disease and diabetes, smoking, anxiety and related diseases, skiing accidents, cancer that has progressed because people haven't done regular check ups, etc.
And frankly, the amount you contribute to a Covid patient who has somewhere between 1-5% chance of even going to the hospital according to the CDC will cost you far less than any of the above.

I agree. But if heart disease, diabetes, smoking, skiing accidents, and cancer risk could be **massively** reduced with a simple 5 second shot... well I'd hope you understand why it feels really frustrating.

my concern is he said that they lifted the 35% capacity but didn’t say by how much.
plus it’s no long six feet distancing its three feet. I leave Sunday. Worried people are going to slam Disney world. I was already prepared to wear a mask so don’t really care about that. We are vaccinated but my son only has one shot because they just opened up for 15 year olds today.

I will be happy to get vaccinated when someone can prove to me that your vaccine antibodies are better than my naturally acquired antibodies.

I will be one of those scary unvaccinated people waking around without a mask when the mandate is dropped.

Saw this, and have read the speculations on a number of the Disney fan sites. God I hope they lift the mask mandate, at least for outdoors, in time for our mid July into August trip! The only thing that concerns me are crowd level increase and no fast passes or extra magic hours.

I for one was very glad to see the CDC's new guidance. Though at the same time, I think that guidance is lagging behind the science. Personally, I think we're at the point where the mask mandates should be gone and people are allowed to choose how to live and what risks they are willing to take vs not willing to take--just how we operated prior to this.

While I completely understand that some are concerned about children, again, if you look at the data, children are at an extremely low risk The yearly flu is actually more dangerous to kids than covid (in terms of deaths), but most people never thought about it because it was something we lived with our whole lives.

Let's assume Disney lifts the mask requirement (either just outdoors or indoor and outdoor)--what I think Disney should do, however, is if there are guests that are not comfortable with the changes, make sure they are allowed to change or cancel their reservations with no fees.

Without masks, some people may want to wait until all their kids can get vaccinated, which is totally up to them and I'd hate to see them also have to pay cancellation fees.

We are traveling in June and I'm very hopeful and even more excited for our trip with the possibility of less/no masks.

2 more quick thoughts--

1) I'm guessing Universal will change their policy first. Any bets on how long Disney waits to follow?

2) I'm a teacher (as you may have guessed from my name) and I do think it's important that those of us that dislike masks and don't want to wear them are careful not to "shame" those who still choose to do so--whatever their reason. I'm guessing that next fall I'll still have a few colleagues and students that want to wear masks.

Let's just be nice to each other, no matter what you choose to wear.

Totally agree with this, although I thought they just announced something about going back to the old cancellation policy soon (if they didn't already)? This is going to get tricky really fast. Personally I'm fine with the shift back to "normal" happening pretty quickly, but I can understand that some people are not and will want to cancel their trips if they aren't comfortable with the new (or lack of) precautions. However, I'm not convinced Disney will give much, if any, warning when they make these changes, making it really hard for people to plan or cancel trips around it.

And here I already thought it was crazy keeping up on the news for my Memorial Day trip. With this announcement and Chapek’s comments I legitimately don’t know what things will be like in 2 weeks time. I’m honestly a lot more terrified about crowds now than I was 2 days ago.

I'm glad to see things moving along. I have followed all the guidelines diligently... I want to keep people safe, hospitals below capacity etc. BUT... with vaccines in place, there comes a time where life has to get back to normal. It is a person's choice to get a vaccine to protect themselves, it's also their right to wear a mask to protect themselves. If they choose not to, they accept the consequences. It's risk/reward management. We can't live in constant fear. Eventually we have to move forward. The worst is behind us.

Wouldn't they have to rewrite the union contract in order to drop the mask requirement?

My trip isn't until the end of September, and I would be happy to not have to wear a mask outdoors. But I would be a bit nervous about people who refused the shot going mask-less, even though I, and all of my family, have had both shots. I wouldn't be adverse even if the requirement is dropped to wearing a mask indoors in the shows and shops. And would probably still bring some along.

What I'm most excited about is them adding capacity to the parks. I am the only one of my group who was able to book MK for October 1. I'm hoping we will get lucky and be able to add the rest of the family to MK on that date.

Bottom line is that the CDC said there is almost no chance that a vaccinated person will get Covid, even if you are around people who have active Covid. We have been living in fear for a long time and I admit that it is really hard to wrap my head around the update. The children haven't been vaccinated, which is a big concern. And trusting unvaccinated people to continue to voluntarily wear a mask is a little scary. But I believe what the CDC says and even Dr. Fauci agrees with it. We felt a little uncomfortable at the zoo yesterday because very few people were wearing masks. But it is just a matter of getting used to the new normal.

What has it been like in states that dropped the mask mandate weeks or months ago? Have they had increases in Covid cases?

I have adult trips booked for May and August. I expect masks to be required for my may trip, and I’m fine with it. In August, however, I would prefer if they were gone outdoors.

I‘m not going to bring my two youngest kids until masks are completely gone. They are just unable to wear them properly.
