Thought I wanted free dining....

I booked a package for 5 nights starting on 8/16 at WL for me DH DS16 and DS8. Only needed to book a one day base since I have tickets. I figured if FD came out I would add it on. It came to $1664. Now I'm thinking if I go with AAA room it's only $1100 since I won't get the base tickets.

So now I'm hoping for a room only discount to get it even cheaper.

Thoughts...

Using a discount code on the room only, you'd still need to figure in your costs for food. Will you spend less than $564 for food for everyone?

Of course even if free dining comes out you'll be responsible for tips on TS meals so you'll have to add that to the tally.

The final consideration is that you can save your 1 day tickets for another trip since you already have tickets. Not much of a savings this trip, but a small savings next trip.

Something else to keep in mind....its not quite as simple as "adding on" free dining to an existing reservation. Your room type at WL has to be available your dates as part of the free dining in order for you to get the free dining package. They put out free dining to fill empty rooms, so "higher demand" rooms, like those at the value resorts or standards at WL, might not be available.

We are in the same boat you are...we don't really need tickets, but of course we need to eat! We're just waiting to see what comes out.

I know that only some room are alloted for FD. I have been through this before. One the phone first minute FD is avaible for Disney Visa and being on hold for over an hour.

What would be perfect is a 40% off code.

In our situation, the 40% off ends up being cheaper than free dining deal. However, we get deluxe dining regardless and eat exclusively at WDW. So we are truly comparing apples to apples. If without free dining you would be eating less expensively (ie a;; counter service, outside of WDW, making your own at your room or villa), then you have to consider that vs. tips on free dining meals.

Yes usually FD is the best deal if you stay in a value. A 40% off pin is usually better in the Deluxe. Mods are somewhere in the middle and it'll depend on your party size (generally speaking) as to which is a better savings. ;)
