We are planning on going June 27 - July 7. We have always rented a car. We will be again this year (unless we drive  )

When should we start looking at prices for rentals. They seem very high right now. We would prefer a minivan or a medium SUV. We have 5 people and lots of luggage so I thing even a large car would be a bit snug.

If you have any info., please help. It is exhausting going from one rental site to another and then another an finding the prices outrageous.

If it helps, we have AAA, but that is about it. If I have at least a time frame in which I should begin looking for best prices, that would be helpful.

I agree. I booked my June rental this time last year and the price for Alamo was half what it is now.

We got a minivan last time for under $300 for 9 days. Nothing is even coming close to that. Now I did use Priceline last time, which I hate to resort to. We ended up getting a rental off property throught Priceline. MCO had a shuttle to the rental place, but we'd prefer the rental place being right at the airport itself.

Start looking now and make a reservation on the best deal you can find. You can always cancel if you find a cheaper rate as the trip gets closer.

Good luck!
Joellyn

PS - Not sure if it's valid then, but we used KISS2 promo code at Dollar and got a weekly mini van rental for $205 with tax (last week of April).

Thanks joelynn. I used the KISS2 code and everything I am looking for is still well of $400, almost $500. I will keep trying!

The beauty of car rental reservations is that there is no penalty for cancelling them. Just keep watching the rates. You can make a reservation at any time and then cancel when you find a better rate. Mousesavers is a good source for codes for rental car discounts. Sometimes we have cancelled and rebooked one week before the trip.

We're getting a minivan because we have 6 people (Grandma is coming with us), but even then I don't think that all our luggage will fit so we are doing things a bit different. We plan on using Magical Express and their convienient luggage transfer service and sending either me or Dh and Grandma and all the kids and all the luggage (minus one carry on bag with essentials, swimsuits, toiletries, meds, pj's) to the resort while ONE of us gets the rental car and will meet everyone at the resort. This way we don't have to deal with all the luggage ourselves going to the resort or going to the airport. If you were willing to try this then you could even get just a full size car big enough to fit bodies.
