Those who bought direct from Disney....

Okay..I spent an hour on the phone with a guide yesterday and was only told of the 160 point minimum, not any 100 point incentive. What resort would that be? I don't need a lot of points because we are bi-annual travelers but I hate knowing you only get as much info as they want to give you. He also told me only about buying at AK and now I'm wondering if it's still possible to buy at other locations, besides Bay Lake of course. I think in the end I'll buy resale at BWV because that is my favorite location plus it has lower point values so we could stay an extra day.

The 100 point minimum incentive is for AKV. Maybe your guide neglected to tell you that?? Of course they want the larger sale! I believe (from what my guide told me) that that incentive ends Dec. 1. If you get the 160 pt., you also receive a bonus 160 pt. developer pts that have to be used within 12 months. The 100 pt. deal does not give you that.

From what I know, you can only buy AKV and BLT right now through Disney. If you want the other resorts you have to buy resale. Once you are a member, though, you can try to buy add on points at any of the resorts through Disney and you don't have closing costs (a perk to doing add ons directly through them).

We are probably going to do the 100 pt. incentive (and possibly do an add on of 25 points later) because that's all we would need right now. We can go during the nonpeak seasons and a SV studio Sun-Thurs would only cost us 55 pts, and we might be biannual travellers as well so 100 points banked every 2 years would give us more than enough point to work with if we needed it.

Good luck, ask your guide about this incentive!! Or if you want to speak to mine, I can PM you her direct number and name. Good luck!!

Recently the buy-in minimum was 100 points at AKV. Sounds like that may still be available based on what previous poster states. :confused3

You can purchase ANY DVC resort directly through Disney not just AKV & BLT. But on your initial purchase but you will have to purchase the minimum points required by Disney. However, be aware that if you want an 'earlier' DVC resort (OKW, BWV, VWL, BCV, HHI, VB and maybe even SSR) you most likely need to spend some time waitlisted for those points. And often if you shop resale sources you can get a much better price on those resorts than a direct purchase through Disney and you can purchase less than Disney's minimum buy in requirement via the resale market and still be a full fledged DVC member.

Talk to the DVC guide again to discuss what you've found out here about purchasing at other DVCs and regarding their minimum points buy-in.

Good to know--they make it sound like you can't buy anything but the newer resorts--but if i wanted the earlier ones, i would definitely go the resale route over buying direct. Prices are MUCH better, and you don't have to do the 160 minimum.

Agree :thumbsup2 especially if the resale contract has points banked it can really be a much better way to purchase :)

It was 26 days from our over the phone down payment until our closing. :goodvibes
