those that like port days

Boats are a mode of transportation to me. I think the whole point of cruising is the ports. The ship is nice too but it is a ship to me.

When we cruised other lines the port days were the focus. When we cruise DCL I want at least 3 sea days. I could do a 2 week cruise to nowhere or just Castaway Cay. We do schedule excursions in ports we have never visited, but we pick our itineraries during the off season for the best price. When we wanted to go to Alaska, we picked another line that had a cheaper price and all the ports we wanted.

I do enjoy port days but I don't think I prefer them over sea days because I do enjoy those lazy sea days as well. While on a Disney Cruise we did an overnight port stay in San Francisco and it was great! I really wish DCL would offer overnight port days at some of the more popular locations more often but I understand that cost is one of the reasons they don't do that.

The Copenhagen to Dover repositioning cruise that just ended included an overnight in Reykjavik.

My wife's preference would be to alternate port and sea days. It would give her a chance to relax between ports.

We like port days over sea days and chose the western itinerary over eastern because of more port days. To me sea days seem pretty crowded since everyone is at the pool etc. we look at cruising as an opportunity to show our kids new places and experiences without the exhaustion of a typical land vacation (packing and unpacking nightly, changing hotels etc).
