Does anyone besides me like port days? It seems most people on here are content with almost no ports. This is one of the main reasons that I like to cruise. I enjoy getting a taste of different places around the world without getting in a car or airplane. I do like balance with port and sea days but I definately prefer more ports to sea days. Does anyone feel the same as me?

Absolutely! While I really enjoy the sea days, I get bored after a few when I've already done the activities I'm interested in and have had enough pool time. I love getting off the boat to explore new places, even if it's just the area near the port. For me, cruising is a great way to get a "sampler" of places I may want to visit for longer in the future. A balanced combo of sea days and port days is the best of both worlds IMO. :)

I do enjoy port days but I don't think I prefer them over sea days because I do enjoy those lazy sea days as well. While on a Disney Cruise we did an overnight port stay in San Francisco and it was great! I really wish DCL would offer overnight port days at some of the more popular locations more often but I understand that cost is one of the reasons they don't do that.

Count me in for loving port days and, personally, much prefer them over sea days when given a choice. You can always stay on the ship during a port day and pretend it's a sea day, but we like having the option depending on how we feel.

I love port days! It is so fun learning about different places and visiting them. It's so much fun to be able to see things in person that you've read about or saw on tv

I like a balance of both. The ports are a fun way to check out a new place without having to spend extended time there but sea days are fun to sleep late, be lazy and my favorite....do wine tasting!

I agree with this, and I think it really depends on what your goal of your vacation is. For a Caribbean cruise, I think sea days are great. It's relaxing. You get to sleep in and enjoy the amenities of the ship. For the European itineraries, then port days would be more important to me because it would be a chance to see a lot of different places over the course of the cruise.

We pick the cruise because of its destination and prefer port days. We want to visit new locations. For us the ship is a means to get from one port to another with the least amount of fuss. My DH isn't one for sitting on the ship for long. I would never get him on a repositioning cruise for this very reason. However, I am trying to talk him into a Panama Canal cruise sometime in the future when DD is out of school.

It's all about the ports for us. I do enjoy the occasional lazy sea day, but we mainly cruise to see new places and get an idea of where we might want to come back and explore more extensively. I know that a lot of people just love the cruising experience and don't care where they go, but that's not us. We love unpacking once and being transported on a floating hotel from place to place with lots of fun activities in between ports, but a cruise itself without new and interesting destinations would never be enough for us.

We love port days because it gives us an opportunity to get a taste of different countries without a whole lot of effort on our part (just have to earn the money to get on the boat!). No driving, no dashing hither and yon to airport gates... it's a lovely way to vacation.

When I began cruising decades ago it was a relief to drag my exhausted self to the ship thinking I had nothing I had to do except relax. Ports were great to explore, to enjoy, and also to educate my child. Now, as a 'senior', I look forward to Alaska cruising with the possibility of never getting off the Wonder just hearing my grandkids describe their responses to the same adventures I shared with their Mom "in olden days". ;-) Cruising has something for everyone.

I usually choose a cruise based on itinerary and price. The problem with DCL is that a cruise with a very good itinerary will often cost a lot more than I am willing to pay! Good thing I like other cruise lines!

I love port days, especially on a cruise with really awesome ports like Alaska. The Bahamas ports I have been to are very nice but don't hold quite as much appeal to me.

I also like the ship, but the only way I would want a cruise more heavy on sea days than port days were if it were something truly special like crossing the Atlantic/Pacific, Panama Canal, etc. Otherwise I am content with 50/50 or leaning more towards more port days.

The only port I've been to was Castaway Cay (we skipped Nassau) but it was really nice to just get there, spend the day and leave (o.k., the leaving part sucked!)...

I don't select Disney for the Ports. I feel that I pay a premium for sailing on a Disney ship which means I need to "get my money's worth" from the ship and activities. I try not to pay extra to get off and do an excursion; I'd rather get off, maybe do a bit of shopping and then get back on the ship to enjoy the movie theatre, pools or water features, or other onboard activities.

I sail other cruise lines to see exotic ports and do stuff; when I sail Disney the ship becomes my only desired destination.

I love port days - for a different reason. I love how empty the ships are when everyone is off the ship doing other things. The pools are empty, there is more space, buffets are more empty. It's great. I like to stay on the ship in port days and experience the ship without thousands of other people.
