I posted this last year, still sounds about right from my perspective.

America the Beautiful--sound link, click here

Ray Charles did it so very well :goodvibes

Oh beautiful, for heroes proved,
In liberating strife,
Who more than self, our country loved,
And mercy more than life,

America, America, may God thy gold refine,
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain devined.

And you know when I was in school,
We used to sing it something like this, listen here:

Oh beautiful, for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties,
Above the fruited plain,

But now wait a minute, I'm talking about
America, sweet America,
You know, God done shed his grace on thee,
He crowned thy good, yes he did, in a brotherhood,
From sea to shining sea.

You know, I wish I had somebody to help me sing this
(America, America, God shed his grace on thee)
America, I love you America, you see,
My God he done shed his grace on thee,
And you oughta love him for it,
Cause he, he, he, he, crowned thy good,
He told me he would, with brotherhood,
(From sea to shining sea).
Oh Lord, oh Lord, I thank you Lord
(Shining sea).

And Red Skelton said it so well many years ago.....--sound link

Thanks for posting. Ray Charles version is my favorite hands down!

Happy 4th to everyone!

I hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th of July Dan!! :cool1:

I have to say, the large icicle hanging from your porch is a beautiful site as well on this hot July day!! :beach:

Our Air Force son is in Korea right now which adds a whole new meaning to the 4th of July this year. Thank you, Dan!

Thanks for posting. Hearing America the Beautiful always brings goose bumps and tears....

:thanks:

Thank you Dan.

Happy Independence Day to you and yours.

Thank you for posting this. I hope all Americans take a moment (or more!) to appreciate our freedom on Independence Day.

Thank you to all who are bravely serving in our armed forces, at home and abroad. It is because of you that we remain free.

Have a Happy and Safe 4th of July, everyone!

Happy 4th of July to one and all....

Our first fallen soldier will arrive in town tomorrow or Wednesday.... May God Bless his soul. Thank you Raymond J. Plouhar for serving our country and giving your life so America can remain free. :grouphug:

As always Dan - you have chosen another appropriate way to celebrate life...Ray Charles sang a great version.
As we celebrate our many freedoms, I hope the rest of you have a wonderful day!

Happy Independence Day to my American friends. It was a heck of a way to start a country 230 years ago -- but out of disagreement and conflict two amazing countries found their birth.

HAPPY 4th of July!! THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS ALL OF OUR ARMED FORCES!!

Happy fourth to all  All the best to you and Marie, Dan. :goodvibes

:) Thanks for that. I just love that version. Enjoy your day and be safe.

Thanks Dan

I must say I'm a big fan of the icicle in July :teeth: If only it were that cool now

This holiday has taken on new meaning for me too. A very close friend is in England now with the Air Force. Well, I hope he's still in England. I haven't heard from him in 3 weeks, and they do tend to move him with no warning

Happy Birthday, America! Here's to 230 more wonderful, chaotic, magical, freedom-filled years :thumbsup2
