This MAY be the Rebels' Best Month Yet!

I feel ALIVE people!!

Oh Tag Fairy! :rolleyes1 (Seriously, I think that would be a great tag to have.)

James - Are you still keeping up with your breathing medicine? I'm sorry you are having such a time with that. I hope it will pass soon. You better be proud of that 13.1 sticker! You earned it! :thumbsup2

Jane - Slow and steady is definitely the way to go. Good for you for not pushing too hard too fast. (And I love True Blood!)

Andrea – Yes, I carry water with me. I use the water stop to fill my water bottles, and then I am off. I use two thermoses, one with water and one with sport drink. I leave them on the front porch. Yeah, I would head strait for the couch if I entered my home.

I have been trying to see if sport drinks will be better on my stomach. The GELs seem to upset my stomach a little. So far though, the G pro seems to satisfy my calorie intake and electrolyte needs.

Also, no, I did not get my 3 miles in, disappointing. But, I did take a family walk of about a mile on Saturday and we broke in the new stroller.

Gretchen: Good job and keep putting in those miles!

Jen: Sounds hot out there! Crazy how much the temperature effects a run, but mid 80s! that sounds hot. Like I said before, it snowed here yesterday – so my workout was inside. I am not ready for 98 yet. I will be ready by July, but not now.

Nikki: That is way under sweep time! Sounds like you don’t have anything to worry about with that. This is a great place for inspiration. We are all cheering for you.

James: Sorry that your watch didn’t work. I love to have mine for extra motivation. I get a little beep yelling at me if I am going too slow. My DH got me a 13.1 sticker after my 2nd half marathon. I don’t think I will ever get a 26.2, but I can add my 13.1s together, right?

Jane: Good luck with your 39 minutes. I know you can do it! I am sure after 39 minutes you will still be wanting to do more!

Andrea: Thanks for the motivation. I love the thought. It is all too easy to throw in the towel, but we have got to keep moving forward!

Katie: Glad to see you, hope things are going well.

AFM: I am happy to announce that I got my 3 miles in yesterday. I am pretty happy with the interval I am at now, I guess that probably means it is time to push it a little, but I may stay with this through my 10K in a couple weeks. I did push it to the last minute, not getting on the TM until about 8:00 last night. But I got on and I finished!

Have a great day Rebels!

Happy Wednesday Rebels!

Manda: Nice job getting your three miles in. Doesn't matter what time you did them, you did them. I'm completely on the same page as you with the intervals. I'm happy with my interval and feel solid and strong, so why go disrupting things. Perhaps in the cooler months I'll try to step it up a little, but for right now, it's working.

Katie: We miss you too!!! Come back soon!

Andrea: What's the Tag Fairy? I'm so confused.:confused3

James: Glad to hear that you found the drink working better than the gels. I'm at that point in training next week where I need to start using gels or beans or whatever other options. I'm finding it very overwhelming to make this choice.

AFM, I got my 39 minutes in last night. Slower than usual but considering the humidity, I was happy. Finished strong. Probably could have run more but I didn't want to. At least it's done. Debating whether I should run again tonight in the heat or chance waiting until tomorrow night when it will be cooler but we're supposed to get thunder showers. Oh decisions, decisions.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

James- Do I have an asthmatic buddy on the Rebel team?

Jane- Way to finish that workout!! Isn't this humidity dreadful! I was SOOO not ready for it this early!

As for the tag fairy, when she visits you there is a new saying under your user name! (look at K80K and Disney_Mommy)

Andrea- Thanks for asking about the shins. They are feeling pretty good! They are good for warm up, then hurt for about 5 minutes and then loosen up. I've been REALLY stretching my calfs every chance I get!

I would LOVE a visit from the tag fairy! I've been around for 5 years and have not seen hide nor hair of her! (not sure if that was written correctly)

James - Have you tried beans or chews? I found some great things called Honey Stinger Organic Chew in Cherry Blossom. They are so yummy but they're light. Something like that might treat your tummy better. On long walks, I rotate between those and water and the sports drink.

Katie - Hope your week is better than last. We miss you too! :grouphug:

Manda - Yay for you for getting in those miles!:thumbsup2

Jane - The Tag Fairy visits us DISers and picks out their wittiest, silliest or most profound comments from their posts and sticks the comment under their username, so it appears in all their posts forever. Here are a few examples: 1, 2, 3 and 4. See all the little comments under the username, above the avatar, in different colors? That's where the Tag Fairy has struck.

Nikki - Actually, the comments under Katie and my usernames are ones we have put there ourselves. You can go in and add one, like where yours says "DIS Veteran" and Jane's says "Mouseketeer." The ones from the TF are always different colors.

Andrea,

Thanks for that clarification! I was a bit confused as I have been away from the boards for a bit.....couldn't remember exactly where the tags went! BUT I DO know they are special!

Jane: What did you decide? Did you run or wait? I tend to put my runs off to the next day, but then I don’t do them. So if you want my advice do it today, then you don’t have to worry about it tomorrow. But I don’t remember what real heat feels like, so ask me again at the end of the summer, I may have changed my mind.

Nikki: Glad your shins are loosening up. I noticed mine were tight yesterday during my walk. I thought of you and stretched my calf a little. Oh, and thanks for explaining the Tag Fairy, I was a little confused myself.

Andrea: I haven’t really tried any of the beans or gels or anything. Someday I will have to find some I like.

AFM: It was a beautiful day yesterday, so I hurried home from work and put in 4 miles. I was only scheduled for half an hour, but it was so nice outside the I just kept going. It felt great! It was a walking day – and I averaged about 14 minute miles, not my fastest time, but OK for just the beginning of my training.

Keep moving Rebels!

Nikki - HI I do remember you. Nice to have you here as Rebel teammate.
I have kept up the walking and am slowly losing the weight; hoping to keep it off for good. Did the Princess Half this year and am very proud of that. I feel really good about the changes I've made and want to keep on that track. Everyone here inspires me so much.
Andrea - thank you for your inspiring words and keeping us in the right frame of mind. I will be taking a Zumba class starting in 2 weeks and hope that helps with the block I've seemed to hit. Will be opening our pool this weekend, so I'm hoping to get swimming in as well.
Jane - was thinking of you today. I spent the day in NYC with cousins visiting the MET and walking Central Park. It was great but very, very hot. I got a huge blister on my toe which is killing me right now. Hope I can get out and do my miles tomorrow.
Otherwise, still moving and trying to keep cool.
Rebels - :thumbsup2

Gretchen: Hope you were able to get out. Sorry about your toe. Funny how a little blister can slow us down so much! Let me know if you like Zumba. I have heard good things about it.

As For Me: I was able to get out again last night. It was a run/walk day. My DH and I walked down to a trail by our house and then split up for a half hour. I ran and he did his thing and then we walked back together. Not a bad way to exercise. The weather is going to take a turn for the worst today, too bad for all the people with weekend plans. I may have to do my 6 miles on the treadmill. Bummer.

Some photos from the Edinburgh Marathon. You can see how my mood changes

At the 5 mile mark, still looking pretty happy.

At 26 miles, it hurts, oh God it hurts

I'm so happy that's over that I forgot to show my medal

thanks for looking,

Liam

Great photos Liam!

I had a great walk yesterday! Today's workout is getting shelved. I have to get the house clean and pack for our mini weekend getaway!

I have looked up where we will be staying this weekend and already have my long walk tomorrow mapped out!

Have a great weekend everyone in the USA!!!! HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!

Good Morning Rebels - Hope everyone is planning on a great Memorial Day weekend!

Had a rough couple of days. Didn't run on Wednesday and yesterday there was plenty of time for me to get a run in before the thunderstorms, but i just wasn't feeling it. So I didn't run. Now I'm just plain disappointed in myself. Oh well, tomorrow I have a 4 mile group run so that should kinda make up for it. (Although I'm in that hilly Central Park again!)

Liam - I love your photos. I hope I can look 1/2 as good in my half in October.

Manda & Nikki - great job getting out there this week.

Gretchen - Good luck with that blister. Ouch! Glad you enjoyed your day here in the city. It was so hot that day, but everyone was out, about and alive on wednesday. Great day to visit!

Hope everyone has a really fantastic long weekend!

Manda - That's great that you felt like you could keep going. Finishing on a high, that's the way to go. And yes, 14 min/miles is a great speed for walking, especially for just beginning your training.

Gretchen - Let me know how you like your Zumba class. When I was still a member of our Y, I thought about taking a class, but there were signups and waiting lists and all that. Which tells me it's very popular, so it must be good, but there will also be a lot of sweaty people crowded in an enclosed space...:scared1:

Liam - Great pictures! You don't look that distraught in your Mile 26 picture. You actually look determined, like you're going to finish this darn race no matter what. And you look pretty darn happy to have that medal!

Nikki - Excellent planning ahead for your long walk while on vacation! Enjoy!

Jane - Don't let yourself wallow in the fact that you missed a run or two. Your body or mind obviously needed that break. Enjoy it while you can. Then tomorrow, enjoy your group run.

Everyone - Have a great weekend, and don't undo all the healthy changes you made during the week. But don't be afraid to splurge a little, either! Everything in moderation. :grouphug:

Hello Everyone! This has been a really long week...I meant to be good about running and working out but somehow the days just got away from me.

Liam - I love your photos...wait until you see what I look like when I run my 1/2! I am sure I will be crawling! :rotfl2:

AFM - Alright, I did get one day of biking to and from work but that was it. I did get one run in but it was only 3 miles and it was a HORRIBLE run. I did not do any other workouts...no crunches, no weight lifting, nothing.

I think I just needed a break from the exercising because there was too much else going on. Plus, it was a break week for the BL challenges on the WISH so I just kind of checked out this week.

This weekend I plan on doing a long run at our lake place and we will be painting all weekend as well. We do not always have internet access at the lake so I will wish everyone a fabulous weekend. I hope to come back refreshed and ready to go again!

Happy Running Rebels!
Jen

Hi Rebels! Huh…I just realized I missed a day of socializing with the Rebels.

Nikki – I hope I am not asthmatic, but it sure seems that way. I need to go see my primary care doctor for referral to a specialist instead of the urgent care doctor. I need help on prevention and not just a quick fix. However, the last couple of days have been really good.

Andrea – Thanks for the tip on those chews. I will give them a try.

AFM – I finally signed up for the Lewis & Clark Marathon today. May 31 the registration fee goes up by 5 dollars. I figured that registering early will get me motivated to do well in my training.

Yesterday, I finished my scheduled 4 mile walk and did pretty decent. This is actually a cut back week for me and I only have to do an 8 mile walk over the weekend. The total mileage for this week will probably be around 16 miles.

Have a great Memorial Weekend!

Liam: Great photos!

Nikki: Have fun on your mini-vacation. Enjoy your walk.

Jane: Have a great group run. I know it is hard to enjoy hills – but you can do it!

Andrea: Thanks for the encouraging words. You really are my coach and inspiration.

Jen: Have fun at the lake. A run around the lake sounds nice.

James: WOW! Congrats on signing up for the Marathon. It is nice to have that done and know that you are going to do it now. Have fun on your 8 mile walk. I will be doing 6 this weekend.

AFM: I am so excited for the weekend. I don’t have anything planned, but I am just happy to not have to be at work for 3 days. I didn’t get any miles in yesterday because Thursdays are yard work day at my Grandparent’s house. Instead of running we cut down a dead tree and stacked the wood. I am totally counting that as crosstraining.

Have a great weekend Rebels!

Manda - yup, definitely sounds like cross training to me. Kudos to you for helping your Grandparents.
Liam - thanks for sharing those pictures.
Jen - A break sometimes is OK and often needed. Have fun at the lake.
Andrea - will definitely let you know about the Zumba class. I have several friends who just love it. It will be my first class (roped in by my daughter ) so I'm really a newbie.
AFM - well I missed my walking again today. My toe is really bad; I think it might be infected. So, I decided to take that needed break for a few days.
Also, went out with friends last night and probably went over on those calories (boy, did that glass of wine taste good!)
Will be sure to watch carefully this weekend since I'm not walking either. Jeez, it doesn't take much to fall off the wagon. Well like the saying goes, tomorrow is another day and we shall start anew. We will be working in the yard and getting the pool ready so I'm going with Manda and counting that as cross training.
So to all Rebels - Have a great Memorial Day Weekend!
