This MAY be the Rebels' Best Month Yet!

Hey all,

Just got back from 6 days at Disneyland and wanted to check in before heading to work. Hopefully I will get time to read through things tonight or tomorrow.

Love going to Disneyland because it energizes me. I usually do a run through the resort area a couple times on the trip. Gets me excited and focused on the Half marathon on Labor Day.

Also did 24Set at the club last night. it is lifting and core together with music. I HATE lifting, so it is a great way to sneak it in there. Gotta do it more. It will also make my trainer happy! :)

Anyways, off to a 14 hour day at work, the price we pay for our vacations. The good news is that I got a call yesterday and I am a finalist for a promotion with my company and my new location would be 20 minutes from Disneyland! WOO HOO :cheer2:

Have a great week everyone. Be healthy and happy!

Had a great walk this AM!
I was proud of myself because I went out and did it despite the light rain we were getting! To top it off I went a LOT further than I though I could! I'll have to drive my route tonight to get the mileage and log it in my journal.

cwnhokie: What a fun race to do as a family!

mandac: Working out on the TM at my Clinic is fun! We have 5 TVs and I can switch them to just about anything I want, we are really slow in the gym department right now.

jwalker1: The nice part about working in a PT clinic is having access to the therapists. It has been nice getting their support, and massages! The downside is you analyze EVERY little pain a bit too much. I'm working on turning off the OVER-ANALYZE button!

RENThead09: Crossing my fingers for the promotion. To live next to any Disney park would be amazing! Not sure how productive work would be!

Have an amazing day everyone!

James - You're not crazy for signing up for the Goofy before you'd ever run a race at all - you're insane! No, seriously, you just have big goals and lots of determination. You can do it! I think a half in October is a great way to get your feet wet in the racing world and give you a little taste of the finish euphoria.

That was so funny, your comment about the bike being like the ferrari of bikes. :lmao: You must have had big plans back then!

Barb (and Silent Bob) - Barb, it sounds like you guys are on a roll! Katie is our Jedi Master of the Half Marathon (Good call, James!) but Barb and Silent Bob are the 5K Commanders.

Tiffany - I love your pictures! You look like you are serious about getting that race done! That one of you holding your medal while someone else took your picture was great. It's not centered or anything, heck, you're not even facing the camera, but you look so happy! And look at that big mob swimming. Wow, what an accomplishment for you. You did it girl! :cool1:

Jane - I think chocolate should be a reward at every race!

I know what you mean about the cost. It's tough. I really spent a lot getting ready for my first race in March. The good news, though, is I won't have to make all those first-time purchase again. I have all the basics. Of course, the entrance fee is something you'll always have to pay. And the Disney fees are soooo much! It doesn't seem fair, having to pay so much more for the fee, then having to pay to fly and stay there! The things we do for our Disney love...

Shawna - Hot and humid - ugh. I can't wait to hear how the Expedition Everest goes for you. And a girl's weekend to boot - how fun!

Liam - Let me tell you what Katie told me before my first half, when I was freaking out about whether I was ready or not - trust your training. It's easier said than done, I know, but it's absolutely true. You are ready for this race. You can do it. You will rock it. (As for the ash cloud - why worry about something you can't control? Just relax and enjoy the relaxing time befpre the race.)

Jen - I've always thought a mud run sounds like something fun to do at least once. Good luck finding other willing participants.

That's so great that you and hubby pressed on, even through that difficult run near your cabin. It does sound like it was miserable! At least now you know where not to go next time you're there.

As for your concern about the drink they will be serving for your race, have you found out what kind it is? You can start using it now during your training runs. That way, you'll have one less thing to be worried about.

Manda - Welcome back! We'll be here no matter how long you're gone.:grouphug:

I like how you said you were in the downhill portion of the getting healthy ride. A lot of times it feels like that's the uphill part.

Pat - How was DLR? I've never been, but I heard it is smaller and very different from WDW.

Good luck with your job prospects. Here's some PD for luck. pixiedust: Hope you get that promotion!

Andrea – LOL, I was a pretty serious rider back then. I probably have done over 50 metric centuries and one century. I believed that a great bike was a must for those long rides. Cell phones were not in existence (whoops, dating myself), so top notch equipment was a must because break downs would be awful when I am out in no man’s land. I actually updated my bike with the latest Ultegra groupset that shifts from the handlebars. I wish I had that when I was riding all those miles. I had to reach down because the shifters were on the down tub. Now I do not have to take my hands off the handlebars, I love it. However, this is the standard on road bikes now. The other day I was in the bike shop and saw a bike with the same configuration as mine and it was priced at $3000. :scared1: Wow, these bikes are getting expensive.

Nikki - I think it is great that you work at a physical therapy place! The perks of the equipment and massages are something I would love. :thumbsup2

Great job running despite the conditions today! It is really good feeling when you end up running further than you thought you could - way to go!

cwnhokie - DH and I have about a 10 week training schedule for our 1/2. It has been a bit challenging because I don't think we had enough of a base, but we have done it. I think we could have used a bit more time and I will be looking to sign us up for one in October that I think will be so much easier to try. My thing is, once I start filling out a registration...I just keep going and then quickly hit SUBMIT before I can change my mind!

James - It sounds like you are doing great with you walks. :thumbsup2 If your weather is anything like ours right now, it is beautiful to be doing anything outside!

BTW - The cost of that bike...:scared1: WOW! Must be a great bike!

Manda - Even though you feel like you have been a couch potato, I bet you will be back into the swing of things really soon. The great thing is that if you get going with the exercise, the weight will go as well. Knowing that is a huge motivator for me and it makes me get out there and run as much as I can just to know I can lose or maintain my new weight. I hope to hear more about your runs as you get back into it all!

Pat - How is Vegas? Sounds like you might be willing to leave it if you get this job promotion...I hope whatever you are hoping for works out for you!

It has been YEARS since I have been to Disneyland. We always seem to go to WDW and one day we are going to have to take the kids to DL instead.

Andrea - I have now found out about the drink and will go out and buy it. I have also decided that I am fine with just the water as well if need be. We have tried out a couple of jelly bean type things that we really like if we need some "substance".

We have one more cabin run before our 1/2 but we have already picked out a route that includes ONLY paved roads!

AFM - Between yesterday and today there have been highs and lows so I will sum them up...

Yesterday High - Beautiful day for biking to/from work. It was great to get 6 biking miles in.

Yesterday Low - My bag that clips onto my bike ripped and I had to hold it for part of the ride home. Now I have to figure out how to fix it, strap it on some other way or get a new one.

Today High - Beautiful day. We ran 3 miles tonight.

Today Low - Remember how hot I was running when it was 30°? Now that it is over 80°, I begin to wonder what more I can do to stay cool. I would have DIED for some water (yep, even for just 3 miles). My toe nails are KILLING me. Seriously...I ran 11 miles this weekend, how could 3 miles today be so hard?

That kind of sums up all the exercising. I am also really annoyed right now with the change in dates for the Princess 2011 run. I know it is only by a couple of weeks but it really messes with our schedule and now one couple that was going to join us is thinking they won't make it that weekend. Then there is the fact that it now lines up with the week long vacation that many people on the east coast have...I am wondering if this will mean larger crowds? I am trying to adjust to the change but I tend to be a planner and when my plans change, it is hard on me. :rotfl:

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!
Jen

James - Wow, that's a lot of money for a bike!! Is that the kind that automatically parallel parks for you when you're done riding?

Jen - Sorry about your bag ripping. That sucks. Sounds like an excuse to go shopping... ;)

Always take water with you, even on your shorter runs. That's my motto. Have you heard about those headbands that keep you cool? I googled and found this and this. I've never used them, but they seem like they might be helpful. And your toenails are probably killing you because you ran 11 miles this weekend! They need a break.

That stinks about the Princess changing dates. I'm sure that pi$$ed a lot of people off. I wonder why they did it...?

Hope everyone's Wednesday is great. Remember to make healthy choices.:hippie:

RENThead09: That would be so much fun to live that close to Disneyland! Good luck with the promotion.

Nikki: Good job on the miles in the morning. I tend to stay inside if it is raining (like last night and this morning) so I am impressed that you got out there.

Andrea: I thought the Disney fee was crazy the first year too, but then I did a cheaper local race and I missed all the touches that the Disney race has. So I felt much better paying for it this year, and I love any excuse to go to Disneyland!

Jen: I am a planner too, so I can sympathize with the pain the change in race dates is causing you. Someday I would like to get out and do a race at Disneyworld. Someday…

As for Me: I did it! That makes it 3 days on exercising and 2 on eating well. I must admit I am proud of myself. Sounds silly I know, but I have been making excuses so long that it is refreshing for me to be actually doing something and not making excuses to get out of it anymore. I was on the TM last night and this morning, because it was raining, and not just raining, but Thunder and Lightning. I must admit I have a fear of lightning that keeps me inside. But it was good. I tend to go slower on the TM, don’t know why, I guess just because I am not setting the pace, the TM is. I walked for 2.5 miles last night, not huge, but something. Then I did a walk/run this morning of about the same. I switched to morning because we are headed to my nephew’s 7th birthday party tonight and I wouldn’t have time to fit it in. See – that is why I am excited right now, that would have been a perfect excuse last week, but this week I was able to work through it. Yep, patting myself on the back.

Have a great Wednesday Rebels! It is half way to the weekend!

Good Morning Rebels!

Andrea – Yeah, actually I think it is a little over the top now myself. But, I was young unmarried man and instead of buying a car stereo, I invested in cycling equipment. I actually bought the bike in 1988 and it looks no different than the high priced ones I see in the bike shop today. However, it is a shame that I let it sit and gather dust for many years. But, I am hoping this year might be different. No, it does not have that parallel parking feature, it’s too old of a model. ;)

Jen - I agree with Andrea. An 11 mile run is a tough one and I think your foot needs a rest, especially when you are trying to build your base. Heck, my feet hurt also after my 9 mile walk Saturday and I have done a half marathon a little more than a month ago. I think it is normal, it is just part of our sport, no worries. It actually takes a few days for me to recover from a long weekend. I usually take a coupe of rest days and then I take it fairly easy the next scheduled walk. Although, that really depends on how hard I walked the long weekend. I noticed that on my marathon training plan that Hal Higdon recommends that long weekends should be ran at a comfortable pace and not to push it. He recommends doing speed work on the shorter runs during the week.

As for water, I always carry it with me, even on my shorter walks.

RENThead09 – Good luck!

Manda – keep up the good work!

AFM – Today is cross training day and it looks like lawn mowing is on tap. I would prefer doing something fun but I need to mow. It takes me a little over an hour to push mow it, which surprising gives me a work out. Tomorrow, is 3 mile tempo walk, not sure I am looking forward to that.

Have a great day Rebels!

JEN Sorry about the luck with your bike bag but shopping can be really fun! I too had planned to do the Princess 1/2, however now that I'm going back to school it won't work, even with the move it doesn't work for me, too bad it is not the 1st weekend in April, that would be my spring break and I could partake in it! I wanted to start with that race before jumping in the WDW 1/2, Oh well the more the merrier right!

Mandac Good job!!! Way to get that workout in and fit it in around "life"

James I hope you had fun with the lawn! get a good leg workout in??

AFM- today was supposed to be a cross-training day for me. I had an outfit packed to stay after work and get some weights in. Life had other plans. I had to stay late and work because a client wanted to get in a training session. I also had a long list of Vacations I had to check in on/make reservations for. I turned today into a complete rest day, I did fit in some hip and glute strengthening exercises at home, not what I was aiming for but something is better than nothing!!

Out again tomorrow for another walk!

Have an AWESOME night everyone!

Andrea - Thanks for the information about the headbands. I am looking into several options but want to pick one to try soon.

Manda - Way to go! We are proud of you too! It is so hard to get back into the good habits again and it sounds like you are figuring it all out. Just so you know, I go so much slower on the TM as well. I have no clue why it is. Great job on the no excuses and fitting all your exercising back into the schedule. :cheer2:

James - How did the lawn mowing go? I think that is a great cross training activity because it is a real workout. Good luck on our tempo walk tomorrow! :thumbsup2

Nikki - That is too bad that the Princess does not work for you...I am happy that I was still able to adjust my schedule. I am bummed that one couple that was planning on joining us won't be able to make it though.

Good job on still getting some exercising in today despite the change in schedule. You are totally right... something is always better then nothing!

AFM - I did bike to/from work today so I got another 6 miles of biking in as my cross training. I used a bungee cord to make my stupid bag work (don't want to spend money on a new bag right now). It worked okay but tomorrow I am going to try to use 2 bungee cords and see if I can make it better.

I also got my crunches/ab work in tonight. I keep saying I am going to do the crunches and usually skip them...not tonight. It felt really good to get it done.

My plans for tomorrow include 6 miles of biking and 4-5 miles of running.

Have a wonderful Thursday Rebels!!!
Jen

Manda - You should be proud of yourself! You did awesome, not making any excuses and just getting to it. I'm patting you on the back too. :thumbsup2 (PS - I think a fear of lightning is a healthy thing! Better safe than sorry.)

James - I also learned that lesson about the long walks/runs. I did 9 miles at race pace, then the next day, when I was whining about how I was hurting, someone told me you're supposed to do those at a very easy pace, not race pace. Although I felt stupid, I also felt like maybe I really could do the half marathon distance.

Nikki - You are absolutely right - something is better than nothing! Always remember that.

Jen - I can just picture you riding to work with a falling-apart bag held together by a bungee cord! ;) Not letting that stop you from riding - that's a true athlete. And good for you for doing those exercises you usually avoid. :thumbsup2 It seems like that's a recurring theme with our team lately, which is awesome!

Everyone send lots of PD pixiedust: to Liam for his first marathon and Katie on her 20th half marathon this weekend! Good luck guys! :cheer2:

So I've been gone for about 3 days and I have so much catching up to do with everyone.

James - your bike sounds fierce. Love the housework as a workout. It makes me almost like to do housework. (Almost, not quite!)

Manda - Yay for you!!!! I completely get it. The thought process I use is each meal at a time, each workout at a time. If I eat something that's not a great choice at lunch i don't give myself a pass on the whole day (I used to do that a lot). So yes, every day is a milestone and an accomplishment. Keep it up!

Nikki - Kudos to getting something in. I agree with you, something is always better than nothing. (Although, sometimes I also no how easy and lovely it can be to do nothing.)

Jen - sounds to me like you were able to macguyver that bag back together. Good job with the bungee cords and keeping on track.

Andrea - Thanks for letting me know how to update my signature. I'm going to go do that after i post this. I feel so empty on the bottom right now.

Renthead09
- I too am up for a job about 1/2 hour away from Disneyland. Let's hope we both get it.

AFM - Wow so much going on. A new job possibility in California (scary and AWESOME at the same time.) If I get it, I'm gonna try to get in on the Disneyland 1/2. Hopefully it won't close out before I know what's up. It rained the past couple of days. Finally got in 3 miles last night before it started up again. I felt really pushed yesterday. It was a struggle, but I finished. I think it was the humidity. I'm going to do another 3 miles tonight. But it's gorgeous here today, so hopefully it will go better.

Good luck to Liam and Katie this weekend!!!!!!!

Happy Running!

Jane- WOW another member with a job opportunity in Cali! Here is hoping whatever YOU want to happen happens!

Liam and Katy- ROCK IT OUT! have TONS of fun! :woohoo:

Jen- How did the double bungee cords work? Way to get those crunches in! I hate ab work but know that it is a vital part of a healthy and well balanced body.

AFM- Today was a crappy walk! I started having some shin tightness last night and so I took time to massage, ice, ect. This morning they just didn't want to go for much! I was able to get in 20 of the 30 minutes listed on today's M4M schedule. I spent a good 5 minutes stretching the calfs out mid walk, which helped a LOT! I also spent a good portion of my lunch hour massaging them and using the fun tools at work. They are feeling ok right now and I hope tomorrows walk is better.

BONUS! I found a good cross training program that one of our PTs is starting. It is a concept called cross fit. I think I might die at first but it will be a good addition to the program! My first class is Sat so I'll give everyone an update!

Keep on Moving!:cheer2:

You guys are doing great! I haven't done anything for two days. I've been painting my boys' room so that takes up all of nap time, which is when I usually run or workout. Hopefully back on it tomorrow.

Painting could count as upper body right?? An if you added a few squats while painting you could be doing lower body too!

Nothing like turning housework into a cross training workout!

James: I hate mowing the lawn. I am so glad that is something that DH does for me. It is good exercise, but I don’t like it when my shoes turn green!

Nikki: It is hard when plans get messed up, especially by work! That isn’t fun at all. Good job getting some work in anyway. Sorry your walk was bad. My shins get sore too at the beginning of my walks, usually it loosens up after a little while. Keep working at it, and it will get better. Good luck with your walk tomorrow.

Jen: How did the exercising go? It sounds like you had a lot planned. Hope it went well. Hope the 2 bungees work better. It sounds like a good improvised way to keep your bag on the bike. Hope it works.

Andrea: Thanks for the encouragement.

Jane: Good luck on the new job! Change can be a lot of fun. And you are never far from home as long as you are close to Disneyland! I can’t even imagine running humidity. It is my killer, I live in Utah and we just don’t deal with humidity here.

Cwnhokie: painting counts as cross-training.

AFM: No new exercise to report. I went to my 7 year old nephew’s birthday party last night. We got home pretty late last night, so I slept in this morning. When I get home from work I am planning on changing into my walking clothes and heading right out. The sun is peaking through the clouds right now, so there is a chance it might not be raining in an hour when I get out. I am hoping for that!

Good Morning Rebels! First of all let's say...

:cheer2: GOOD LUCK LIAM AND KATIE! :cheer2:

Enjoy your races and have great runs this weekend. I know that you both will do incredible!

Jane - Good Luck on your job situation! I think it would be great for you to be close to DL so that you can run more Disney races. :thumbsup2 How was your 3 mile run? I hope that it was better weather for you and not as humid.

Nikki - Sorry that you had a bad walk. It is never any fun when your body does not feel good and you end up struggling. It is good that you have access to things to help out after though. Can't wait to hear about your new cross fit class!

cwnhokie - As the others have said, painting is great cross-training. Great upper body workout!

Manda - Were you able to get your walk in or was it raining? I hope that you saw the sun for a little bit.

AFM - I have been trying to be good....yesterday I biked to work and did my crunches in the morning. The bigger problem is that I have been snacking a bit and not helping my whole diet situation. It is not that I am eating huge amounts, I have just made some choices that were really bad even for small amounts. I am going to try to have a better weekend.

Have to let you all know...the bungee cord situation is working. After many trials and errors (and lots of stopping as I bike), I have found a way to strap it all on. It was very frustrating at first as I struggled to get it so it doesn't rub on anything but is secure on the bike...but now with 2 bungee cords it works! I am happy I didn't have to spend any $$ on it at this point.

Today I will not be biking to work because we have rain. It is suppose to clear up later so DH and I will run. I will also try to get those icky crunches in again. I am determined to work on the flab in the belly. I am also going to track my water all weekend because I know that when I drink at least 10 glasses a day, I lose weight.

That's the plan for the day. Hope everyone has a healthy and active Friday!
Jen

Whew, this has been the week from you know where. I worked 41 hrs in 3 days. Ugh! Took half a day today to try to get back some of my time. Have to go in for a meeting this afternoon. This messed up part of my workouts this week but I am trying to get back into the swing of things so I don't mess up my race this weekend. Hope everyone is well!

Good Morning Rebels!

Nikki - I can't wait to hear about this new cross training program. At least you walked yesterday (crappy or not). Keep it up! Hope your shins are feeling better.

Cwnhokie - I'm with everyone else on this. Painting is cross training.

Manda - Hope you were able to get your walking in last night. I've been feeling that this week with the weather. Trying to run in between rain drops.

Jen - I tend to lose way more weight when I drink a lot of water too. Lately though, I'm concerned I'm drinking too much water. Do you ever feel that way or am I just crazy?

AFM - Got back out again last night. It was GREAT! It was 15 degrees warmer, but much less humidity than Wed night. Felt really strong throughout the run. Tomorrow is my group run. According the schedule I'm supposed to do 5 miles, but the group says we're doing 6. I'm going to check again tomorrow with them as I don't want to get injured. I was mentally prepared for 5 miles. I've done that before. But I'm not mentally prepared for 6. I didn't think I'd hit 6 miles till June. I've never done more than 5 so it'll be a challenge and awesome when I'm done. I'm just a crazy planner and I like to know what's ahead. OH - and we're starting a half hour earlier. So I'm getting up at some inhumane hour tomorrow. I just keep reminding myself that it'll be worth it.

Wishing everyone a great weekend!

Good luck Liam and Katie!:yay: Just remember when you need that extra boost, you got a whole bunch of WISHers here supporting you and giving you that pixie dust to make it!:cheer2:

Liam, I wish there was a half marathon in Manchester. I really would love to run a race in England. Maybe the London Marathon someday.

Jane, I hope that we do not work for the same company and we are not going for the same job. That would be ironically weird and sad.

I agree that painting is working out. I say add a little music and really work it!

Nikki, I have a couple cousins who did Cross Fit and they loved it. Hope you do too. Good luck and have fun with it.

No new word yet on my move. Life would be so weird to be able to just run over to Disneyland after work for a couple of rides or to catch the fireworks. Looking at places to live just in case...and we are DEFINITELY not in Kansas any more Toto!!! But things will happen they way they are suppose to. Off to run before the wind picks up for the weekend. Going from 92 today to 70 on Sunday.

Run Fun everyone!
