I teach in one district and live in another. Either the district I live in takes a weird week, or the one I work in refuses to have one any other time than "good Friday and the week after Easter". This year the kids have off the week before and the Monday after, and I have Friday and the week after--meaning they have 4 days with my parents (thank God for them!) and then I have 4 days with my son in the PM and no one in the morning.
Today I took a personal day because it is the day for kindergarten registration at the elementary school. I got a copy of next year's calendar. Now Easter is a decent time next year--4/11, which is DD#2's BDay. I was thinking that they would take the week after. NOT!!! They have the week BEFORE--April 2-12--and I have the week AFTER--April 9-19. So we'll be in the same boat.
It was great last year when we did have the same break (only the second year since DD#1 started school). We took two great day trips, one to Cleveland to see the Titanic exhibit and the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. This year we are going to our museum on Good Friday to see the Van Gogh exhibit. But I'd sure love to have more time with them!!

Since you're a teacher. I say take them out when it's convenient for your schedule and you are more than qualified to cover anything they may miss. Sounds like just having any vacation time together rates right up there with their school responsibilities. You are sure in a tough situation tho., especially since that is such a popular time for travel and plans need to be booked far in advance.

We have it worse- My spring break is March 9-15th (I work at a large state university). My husband has spring break the week after- March 16th-22nd (he's at a small private university); the kids have spring break the week after that-March 23-29th. It is this way EVERY year.......and its the SAME town! You'd think the two universities and the schools could get it together. We only have a population of about 100,000! Same problem happens with Christmas break and the start of school- everyone is on a different schedule. This limits us to WDW in July!!!! Ugh! Family-friendly, my eye!

all our schools in the same district get the same time off
thurs & friday before easter & mon, tues, & wed after easter
not great for vacationing either
especially since they had to give back tues & wed & tack another day onto the end of the school year due to snow
and we are not done with the white stuff yet

What a frustrating situation. Too bad you can't vacation with your family during spring break.

I know exactly how you feel. I live in one county and worked in another county and the schedules were always a week off. I switched to work in the county I work in (at a LOWER rate of pay) and then all of a sudden the former county changed their spring break to match ours!!!! LOL Just my luck!! It will be nice to get the same weeks though I just wish I did not have to take the pay cut!!

Maybe if enough people complain they can get their schedules on the same "wavelength"

That's rough. I too work in a different district than I live but thankfully most of the county follows the same major holiday shedule. Quite a few years ago they decided to try to make the school calendars similar and it is a blessing. I am still amazed that they were able to do that but thankful.

Right now we are dealing with snow days and how that is going to affect us. I have 6 so far and the kids have 7. Only two of those have been on the same day. Thank goodness for great child care. Now the schools need to decide when they are going to make the days up. Right now the kids would have their last day on a Monday. The poor teachers.
