and if I wasn't still hungry and totally confused I'd probably find this funny.

I pulled up at the drive-thru menu/speaker thing and here's how it went:

Employee: "May I take your order?"

Me: "I'd like half a dozen plain bagels. Four of them just plain, nothing on them, two of them toasted with cream cheese, please."

Employee: "OK, that'll be $11.76. Pull up to the window, please." (I'm not sure if the amount is exactly what he said. I know it was over eleven dollars, though, and that just didn't sound right).

Employee at the window: "That'll be $7.54. (or something close to that. At least it sounded more reasonable than the eleven dollars!) I pay and wait for my bagels.

A different employee comes to the window: "We only have two plain bagels."

Me: "Oh, okay. Are they the ones you toasted?"

Employee: "Yes." She hands me a bag with THREE wrapped bagels in it.

Third Employee: "Oh, sorry that's not yours." I hand back the bag.

Employee: "What do you want the other four bagels to be?" (The employee ran through a list of all kinds of bagels that they had.)

Me: "Well, sesame seed, I guess."

Employee: "Coming right up."

Yet another employee: "Ah, we don't have sesame seed. All we have are everything bagels."

Me: "You don't have ANY plain bagels? Not even the two toasted ones?"

Employee: "No, just these everything bagels." (Which she proceeds to start stuffing in a bag)

Me: (I only wanted plain bagels, I only like plain bagels, I figured the sesame seed ones would be the closest to plain I was going to get): "Well, can I just have my money back, please?"

ANOTHER employee: "Oh, I just found a plain bagel!"

Me: "No, really, I'd just like my money back, please."

After a few minutes of trying to figure out how much they owed me, I got my money back and drove home.

All I can say is, WOW!

Yikes!!! That's just crazy!!!

I hate going into a "specialty" shop and they "run out" of what you want. Inevitably, once a month, I'll go to Starbucks and order a chai tea latte. They'll tell me they're out of chai tea mix. However, there are tons of containers sitting on the shelf. But, for whatever reason, they can't open those containers and use them for customers.

Anyway, I always wonder how a place that sells food cannot keep track that they're running low and need to prepare more!!!!

Ya, I'm not a big fan of drive thru service. I am that person in line in front of you that holds up the line while I check my bag to make sure everything is in there. For me, the worst place to mess up orders is the McDonalds near my house. I have 3-kids, so I often get 3 Happy Meals and a meal for myself. They hand me 3 drinks (ok, 4 meals people...should not be that hard). It is worse if I don't get the meals and everything goes in one bag, guaranteed something will be missing. The problem is, they have one person taking the order, then another person packing the bag, then the origianl person hands the bag without double checking the other persons work....all this equals nightmare with something that should be so easy!
You did right, when it is that hard to fulfill an order, get your money back and high tail it outta there! :thumbsup2

I totally agree!

Me, too! I always check my bags before I leave. The place that messes my order up the most is McDonalds...

This reminds me of my McDonalds, they are always out of something.... :sad2: They didn't have the large fry cup with the Pirate code number thing, only on the Big Mac and Soda. :confused3 They have a big poster about Pirate cash Cards, and yet they don't have any... :confused3 I HATE my McDonalds. :furious:

This is why I don't use drive thrus at donut places. Much less stressful for me to actually see what they have out and choose from that selection.

oh goodness. Makes you scratch your head, doesn't it. I have a similiar story to share.

Wendy's drive thru. Me and my kids. I order 2 kids nugget meals and some combo, I don't remember with a diet. I get my total and drive up to the window and pay. The gal comes back and says we don't have diet. Ok, I say do you have iced tea? Nope. Ok, what do you have? Regular coke. Oh boy, nope don't drink that. It's late, I'm tired and we have 45 minutes to get home. So I tell her no. She goes away and come back with a drink...I'm thinking they got the diet to work. I ask, nope it's regular. I said no, I don't drink regular. She says but that's all we have. I said, well give me my money back, thinking I'll just drive to Burger King. She leaves, I hear her tell the manager that I want my money back. Guess what? All of a sudden the diet just starts to work. It was a miracle. I've never to this day figured out what was going on there.

Here's a couple winners dh, the kids and I have encountered...

Taco Bell : No taco meat, no refried beans. Would substitute chicken in place of either. It was a Friday evening.

Wendys: Our local Wendys is regularly out of ketchup. My 8 year old told them to go to Kroger. :rotfl:

BUT the kicker was on the way home from Mackinac Island.... We stopped in Fenton, Michigan at Kentucky Fried Chicken. They had 2 legs, 1 breast and a thigh left. They were out of chicken after our order. All they had left were enough boneless wings to make two small orders for the couple behind us.

:rotfl2: Good! Someone needs to tell 'em!

just had a McD's problem myself. Ordered a large double cheeseburger combo order. Was told would I accept a medium cup in the order as they are out of large cups - no, you want me to pay for a large but only accept a medium? I don't think so. Then I get the order (I just got a medium) and it's the wrong burger. They said we can exchange it - I said and yes give me the difference in my money back as the double cheeseburger was less- I had to argue with them to do that!

I work at a mom 'n pop restaurant and occasionally we run out of stuff like chocolate milk or lemons. It boggles my mind why the boss just doesn't WALK ACROSS THE STREET to the grocery store and BUY some!! :confused3

I waited on a table of 8 one evening and the guy wanted lemons for the water, I told him, "I'm sorry, but we're out of lemons." HE walked across the street and bought lemons!! They were 2/$1. I sliced one up for him and he told me to keep the other one so we'd have lemon slices for other people!!

I HATE it when restaurants run out of REGULAR stuff they're supposed to ALWAYS have!! Now with a "special" that they just make up so much of, when it's gone it's gone, THAT I understand, but to run out of STAPLES, I just don't GET IT!!

I have to ALWAYS check every order...but I was duped still! Went to McD's...order a sausage griddle with egg and cheese (among other things)....check bag...everythings there...get home...unwrap the sandwich...and there's only the bread part of it! Entirely moronic! :sad2: Can never win and wonder why I continue to toture myself! :sad2:

I worked at McDonald's in high school and it was not hard. I never had a problem getting someone's order; my god it was written on a screen! All you had to do was read. If we were out of something, we walked across the street to the grocery store and bought more.

I can't for the life of me figure out why now people have such problems getting an order together.

If I do go through drive thru, I always check my order.

I have always thought the Drive thru should be for coffee and maybe a donut. If you want a breakfast sandwich or something toasted you should have to go inside.

Same at McDonalds, if you have 8 kids and want 6 burgers, 3 without mustard, two with just pickels..go inside.

just my opinion.

I don't know what it is about Dunkin Donuts, but a few years ago, my husband, kids, and I were on a road trip and pulled into a Dunkin Donuts drive-thru. It was morning, so of course we figured they'd have what we wanted, which was DONUTS.

My husband ordered a variety of donuts and the employee said, "Sorry, we don't have any donuts." WHAAAAAAAAAT! Okay, so he orders bagels. The employee informs us, "Sorry, we don't have any bagels." My husband asked, "This IS Dunkin Donuts, isn't it?" The employee said all they had was coffee.

We still laugh about the time we went to Dunkin Donuts and they didn't have any donuts!

You live in New England...you should have just gone to the Dunkin' Donuts on the next corner. ;) But seriously, I am so with you on that. Dunks always messes up the order, there's 1 near my house in particular that is notorious for doing this. Ugh, annoying.

Believe it or not, I recently read an article which claimed McDonald's is looking into the possibility of centralizing the drive-thru ordering process. The person you talk to at the speaker won't be in the restaurant you're ordering at; possibly not even in the same country. The speaker connects you with a central ordering location, where an operator enters your order into a computer. The order is then placed in the restaurant's queue.
