This is weird, I know--glasses on rides?

I'm going to be in the House of Mouse November 9-13. Every previous visit, I have put my glasses away in a case for most rides. I noticed lately that people have them on in ride photos so I am wondering if there is any sort of policy Disney has on this? Also, if you wear glasses on rides, what type of band/strap are you using to keep them from falling off? Any info/advice is so appreciated!!!!

There's no policy about glasses at Disney. All the rides are tame enough that there not going to go flying off. We've worn sunglasses on everything - and we wear them on purpose on RNRC so we can get our cool rocker ride photo!

I wear glasses. I put them on in the morning and take them off to go to bed. Can't really see without them. I have been going to Disney World for many years and have never removed my glasses before going on any ride, including Space Mountain and RRC. I have never had a problem.

You can wear glasses on all the rides. I bought one of the WDW straps that slips over the ends of the glasses and it holds them on quite well.

I take mine off for Space Mountain because I've known people who have lost theirs on that particular ride.

I only take my glasses off for RnR, Everest, and occasionally Big Thunder or Space. I usually do a test of moving my head up and down and side to side. If my glasses feel like they are slipping, then I remove them. I tend to wear my glasses looser so that is why they come off for RnR and Everest before riding.

Awesome! Thank you! I loved RRC when we rode back in 2009, but I know I missed out on a TON of stuff because when the glasses are off, everything is a total blur! And I never saw the Yeti on EE either,:sad:. I am thinking I'll bring my old glasses just in case to wear on rides, because I am THAT person--you know the one. Who trips over stuff, breaks things, loses things. Yesterday I knocked over like 8 boxes of vegetable oil just by grabbing ONE from the very top--should NEVER have happened, still makes no sense.

If your glasses are fitted properly they should not fall off on a WDW ride. Other places like Universal....I would probably remove them for anything that goes up side down.

How convenient that they sell them right in the parks!!! :)

The only ride I ever felt nervous about them coming off was everest when it goes backwards. Everything else the ride is pushing the glasses against your face.

I take them off on Everest and space but that is because unless I need to read or do something that requires the ability to judge distances (mine are for an astigmatism only) I can see just fine. DH uses a strap like the one above since he is almost blind without them.

I just asked DH since he wears glasses and he leaves them on for most rides. The one he doesn't wear his glasses on is ToT. He's worn them before on ToT, but it wasn't fun holding onto them just to see. Just before each ride, he cleans off the oil on his nose so that the nose pads are more likely to stick to his face rather than slide off because of the oil on his skin. Same with behind his ears. Otherwise he would not wear glasses on rides where it's a risk because the risk isn't worth it to him.

We both wear the eyeglass straps. We got our at walmart. DH is similar to the picture that was previously posted above. Mine is the kind that is more of a rope with a slider on it so you can cinch it tight or loosen as you want. This makes it easier to take your eyeglasses off as you just totally loosen it, or make it really tight like me for the coasters. The strap kind, you would have to remove the strap.
I could not see anything without my glasses, and with them being so expensive if something happened to them I could not even imagine!

If your glasses fit your face well there should be no worries on any Disney Rides. Universal will also allow you to keep your glasses on (they're the ONLY thing you can bring through the metal detectors) and generally they should stay on too, but I use a strap there just to be safe. If I couldn't wear my glasses on rides I wouldn't be able to see anything, and what you see really adds to the theme and experience at Disney.

DD wears a strap just to be safe, although Disney doesn't make her like places like Cedar Point does. However, she'd be lost without them, so she wears the strap for extra security.

I have stupidly expensive (though well fitted) glasses with prisms and photo sensitive lenses, etc. I'm blind without them - literally can't see two inches past the end of my nose. And the rest of my family is nearly as bad. When the kids were young, on our first couple trips, I'd insist everyone wear sports bands on the rides, to hold our glasses in place. Gradually, I realized they weren't necessary in WDW. And now we ride everything without our glasses straps.

I've never even felt my glasses slip on the Tower of Terror, Space Mountain, or Everest. I've never had any problems at Universal, either, but I don't ride anything that goes upside down.

That said, glasses straps are a wonderful invention, and can be easily purchased at your local pharmacy for just a couple dollars. Which is cheap, if it brings you peace of mind. :)

I leave my glasses on for all rides with no strap. If they fit properly, you shouldn't have a problem at Disney World.

I wear contacts instead of glasses (just wear mine at bedtime), but my boyfriend generally wears his glasses all day and has never once had an issue with them slipping at WDW as they fit well. He also has never been asked to remove them. They've never once been an issue for him on anything or came close to falling off, even on Test Track, but he doesn't do things like ToT or Everest, so no comment there sadly. I wear sunglasses all day so I remove them because they are much looser than my actual glasses, but as for his glasses, no issues there. If it were me I would buy a little strap/chain at the drugstore though, just for added peace of mind!

I've never had any problems at WDW with feeling that my glasses are going to slip off, so I ride them on everything. Of course, I say this as someone who is almost blind without glasses. At other theme parks with more intense roller coasters, I've used a strap like the one rwdavis2 posted just to avoid the risk. They're very cheap--I got mine at Dollar Tree--so if you're concerned at all, it's definitely worth it for piece of mind.

I only take them off on coasters that go super fast or upside down ... which basically means just Rock-N-Roller coaster.

Too much theming to miss without glasses otherwise!
