This Is The Place For You If You Enjoy Being Last...

You will know more once you talk with them. I remember back in the 70's I wanted to go to dental assisting school it was only 3,000. :lmao:

I know, which is why I have all these questions written down :lmao: I want to make sure I get as much information as I can before enrolling, you know?

Well basically the home nurse referred her to a wound care center. They checked her out, did a lot of invasive scraping of the leg, poking and prodding and determined that the infection last Fall didn't really "heal", the skin just closed up over it. So the little germies just hung out inside her leg waiting until it was a good time to spoil our trips. Then Voila! The skin fell off and the little bugaboos jumped out to give their command performance.

However this time we have been fighting them with aniviotics before they could really take hold, and this Dr. wants to go in and scrape out any last remnants of the infection before it can go back to cellulitis. He pit her in for surgery Friday so she has the maximum possible healing time before our WDW trip.

Of course she didn't tell them about Vegas. She has a follow up next week on Wednesday.

  I hope everything gets sorted with her leg. You guys have been through a lot with that infection

It'll take me about half an hour to get to the school from my house, so it's pretty easy to get to.

I have all but one of those on my list :lmao: This is what I've got:

  • Can you explain the application and enrollment process?
  • Is the $37k for the whole program or per year?
  • Do you offer any scholarships?
  • How much help will I get in sorting out my financial aid options?
  • Do I need a portfolio prior to applying?
  • How long is the program?
  • What is your graduation rate?
  • What sort of employment assistane do you offer?
  • Is an internship required?
  • If so, do you participate in the Disney Culinary Program?
  • Is the baking/pastry program during the day, or do you offer an evening program?
  • If you participate in the Disney Culinary Program, on average, how many students a year are accepted from this school?
  • What is the ratio of traditional to non-traditional students? (I'm considered a non-traditional student)
  • What is the average amount of financial aid used by students?
  • Do you offer any kind of tutoring if it's needed?
  • Are students encouraged to form study groups?
  • Are students able to sit in on other sections of classes if they aren't getting something?
  • On average, how long is a day of classes?
  • Is there a part-time program available, or just full-time?
  • On average, how many classes are lecture-based and how many are hands-on?

I'm qoting this to keep it on the same page as we're on. What about dress code in classes? Do you have to wear chef whites or other things? You'd probably need a few outfits since you might get home too tired to wash before going to school the next day.

What about real "on the job" experience. I know when we went to Napa, we ate at the Culinary Academy for a "cheap" gourmet meal. Does this school offer anything like this? Not a deciding factor but you might not want to make them think your whole intent is to launch into the Disney program. They may like to develop regional cooks who will stay local.

BTW did you ever watch ace of cakes? Did you like his stuff, if so?

Do they offer a work for credit program?
Is there a required internship?

I think Dana said in order to enroll in the Disney area that it had to be a school that they accepted for it. Dont quote me to that whole line. I am forgetful. But yea uniforms. I cant imagine schools provide everything. It may be that she may have to work, to get the things that are needed.

What a picture this put in my head?:lmao:

Let's hope the procedure on Friday will do the trick and blast those bugaboos to Timbucktu.

I believe it's chef whites, but I'll find out when I go to talk to them. And yes, I'd definitely need at least two or three, especially since they're white. I had 4 sets of scrubs when I was working as a CNA, because that was just easier than washing them every night.

They have a little restaurant that's student run, but I'm not sure if the baking/pastry students are involved in that. As far as I know, they don't have anyplace for the students to go when they graduate for, like, immediate hire on their terms, so I don't think it would bother them if I went to Disney afterward :lmao:

I don't have cable, so I've never seen Ace of Cakes :( I see his products in the baking aisle at Michael's all the time, though.

I do think they have a required internship, but I'll stick the work for credit one on my list (although, do you mean like work-study to help pay for it, or converting real life experience to college credit?).

Yes, in order to apply for the Disney internship, you have to be enrolled in a culinary school that accepts it, and they apparently only work with about 20 schools. I'm sure that tools and everything are included in the 37k, but I'll have to double check. I do plan on working part time while I'm in school, since there's no way I can afford to not work.

So the one your checking into , Disney accepts it?

As far as I can tell, yes. They're hosting an informational session on the DCP later this month, so I can assume that, as of now, they accept the Disney internship.

Also, as far as needed supplies, I just looked and yes, books, supplies, tool kits, chefs whites, all that stuff is included in the 37k :)

PDF of the 2012 tuition layout for the Chicago campus.

:rotfl: I'm poking around their website some more and I came onto the "Top Employers" page. First thing listed? Disney.

Cool! :thumbsup2 And hopefully they stock the sizes for gals like us in the chef's whites!

I think they do. I go past the school all the time on the train (the stop is about two blocks away from the campus, so a lot of students take it) and have definitely seen people my size in chefs whites with their logo :) But I'll double check :teeth:

I finished setting up my bill payments for the next couple of weeks so it off to bed for me. Night Lasters.

Something like a work study is what I'm thinking about, but if they have internships and a school run restaraunt probably not.

Night Lasters.

Good night.

I'll have to find out if they do offer work study, but if I'm doing work study in addition to full time school, I don't know when I'd have time for a regular job :lmao:
