When we stayed at YC Concierge, our room was a distance from the elevator. In addition, I gather that it could have been even further. I believe that the entire floor is Concierge because you need special access with your room key to get off at the Concierge floor. I think you should make a request to be as close to the elevators as possible. If you explain your mother's situation, I am sure they would do their best to accomodate you.

We will be staying in a Garden View room, on the Concierge Floor, at the Yacht Club. Is there anything special that we should ask for in our room request? Thanks.

A little update for you-we just got back from the BC last night-They couldn't accomodate any of our requests (except for two queen beds and daybed) because they are still doing major renos. The third day we were there they closed the entire quiet pool wing and the quiet pool, the next morning it was boarded up and the scaffolding was already in place. The CM's said they won't be done for quite some time.

You said in your post that they were still doing renovations...........we were told when we booked last September that all renovations at the BC would be compleeted by March!! How bad was this? Was it a big inconvience for your trip? We leave next month, and this has me worried.........that's alot of money to spend, to have construction going on around you!! Thanks for any info you can give me!

We also booked last August and were told that renos would be complete. The actual exterior refurbs are not a real problem. You see screens and scaffolding up in little pockets. For instance, when you walk out the back of the lobby, the section of rooms to the left have scaffolding and screens up on the first 3 floors, the section by the volleyball court has a small section in the corner. The major inconvenience was the entire court (all three sides) and the boards up around the quiet pool wing. You couldn't use any of the exits and the pool was completely closed down. You could use Stormalong Bay (construction is finished there) or the Yacht Club quiet pool (quite a walk from BC to that pool). We did not hear any of the construction except when you walked directly passed one of these areas. This would actually explain why some of the views were sold out when the codes came out. Not only is part of PO closed, part of Board walk Inn is also being refurbed (some sections around the Boardwalk are boarded up and have scaffolding visible up the left side. It seems to have affected quite a few rooms.

Hi mom_rules!
I believe we were at WDW the same week, we stayed at the Yacht Club returning May 6, 2003. I LOVED the YC!! We were staying there (4 of us) and so was my sisters family (5 of them). We were both upgraded from standard rooms which was unexpected because we had used the AXA package discount code from mousesavers so I wasn't expecting anything extra. I thought Sharon's rooms (my sis) were a better deal but not so sure after the fact. We both booked two standard rooms, 4 rooms total, as we both have teens and got connecting rooms for the kids. She was upgraded to Concierge with her family at no extra charge!! We were upgraded to two connecting water view rooms, 2nd floor, facing the Gazebo and we got to see one out of two weddings, one was on Sat. and the other on Sunday. My sister's rooms were next to the concierge lounge on the 5th floor facing the parking lot over the front of the resort. They said it was noisy early in the morning as everyone headed to the lounge for breakfast and they didn't get to sleep in at all. We didn't get concierge or free food but our room location couldn't have been better. We didn't need to use the elevators, we were close and low enough (2nd floor takes you to the beautiful wooden steps in the YC lobby) to walk to the lobby but far away enough not to hear any noise. Our room numbers were 2089 and 2091. We had a wonderful time, the weather was great and it got pretty hot the last few days we were there. The teens loved the area and really enjoyed the pool. I can't wait to go back!!

RobinLyn - how nice it is to hear from someone getting an upgrade from a booked standard room. As I have read through these pages, I see most people booking concierge. Great for them but I know we can't afford it so I keep looking for the good ole "standard" people. Glad you had a great trip.

mom_rules,
Just a quick question about the YC. Was there any outside scaffolding on the YC side of the resort? I sure hope not. My DD's friend is coming with us this trip, and they would not get the same feel for the resort if there was all construction going on outside!

RobinLyn,
We too have been upgraded several times at the YC, and once was from standard to concierge! It sounds like both you and your sister had great rooms. Glad you had a great time!

Yacht Club is completely finished (they did this last fall). It looked like about 1/4 of the BC has yet to be done but CM said it will be quite a while until they are done.

Phew!! Thanks for the information mom_rules!

It is so great to see this thread on the front page again!
I will be going to the YC for my 30th Ann.
I got the codes and now I can relax and enjoy the planning:D.
I am really looking forward to this trip. Just me and my DH, The grand kids go next year with us.

Robinlyn, terrific upgrades! My first YC stay is coming up 9/1. I don't know what possessed me to book Concierge as I'm more the standard budget. Couldn't do the Waterview cost but am hoping that it will be slow enough when we come in that YC will be nice and put us in Waterview. What did your Sister think of Concierge?

Have a couple of questions for you or others...Does Stormalong Bay really close at 7pm? seems awfully early for hot time of year.

Any idea what the depth of the pool is where the slide comes down?

Any idea what depth is at the lazy river?

Thanks very much! Sharon

We were at the BC last week and the depth of the pool where the slide comes down is 4ft something inches. The signs say that you need to be able to exit the slide area unassisted. I believe the lazy river was mostly 5ft and at some point it went to 6ft. Agood portion of the pool was about 3ft something inches. Which was great for my DS, he loved being able to touch the bottom. We had a blast in the pool!

Last 2 wks SAB closed at 10pm every night.

Beware that there is a portion of the lazy river closer to Hurricane Hannah's that is 8 feet deep!

Also, that deeper section of the river, also has some pretty strong currents in it.

We just returned from the BC. Posted a short report on the trip reports board. We really liked this hotel. The location is awesome. We stayed near the quiet pool--4575--but it was closed for renovation. Not sure for how long.

I also thought that for a lazy river ride 8+ feet was too deep. They do their lifeguard training in there everyday as well.

Just got back from YC. It was our first time at this hotel, and we really enjoyed it. All the requests that we asked for were accomodated. It was really hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now, we are freezing!!!! The kids are really sad to be back, and they want to plan the next trip already!
