This is the "change" he promised?

Putting aside that many of the appointments are not insiders, it is quite a significant change, from GWB, for the President to put adversaries in such positions of power. I think the vast majority of the criticisms we see these days about how these appointments "don't" represent change are really a reflection of the critic's dissatisfaction with the change that those appointments actually do represent. They wanted things to go their way, and they didn't, so they're grasping for whatever straws they can possible think of to try to cast aspersions on what's going on.

That is the issue in a nutshell. No matter who Obama picks or what he does it wouldn't matter. For each and every appointment or rumor of an appointment there has been an equal amount of posts saying how he is leading us into armageddon because of said post.

What I find ironic is that opposers often accuse Obama supporters of having a cult like following in our support of him which I find a little like the pot calling the kettle black because from the dis I would say haters are just as "cult like" in their dislike.

He's going to take your money? :confused3 How so?

Please, please, please Designermv. Don't get people started on the "Obama is going to take all my money and give it to lazy people rant". It's been all over 24 hours since we've heard that one.

You're right. My lips are officially sealed. ;)

Saw on the news this morning that it's pretty much a shoe-in that Hillary will be SoS. And with a lot of Clinton era retreads being considered for other positions, this is the change from the old Washington ways Obama was talking about?

Really??? :confused3

So what exactly were you thinking he meant when he said change...that he would fill his cabinet with Republicans? Change can mean how he will make decisions, or his leadership style. There are lots of ways I think Obama will bering "change" to Washington. I personally think his Cabinet choices so far have been smart...yes, they are almost all recycled from the Clinton administration at this point, but think about it. We need his team to be able to hit the ground running on 1/20. We absolutely DO need experience in that team given the sorry state of our country. I do think that Obama knows his weaknesses and knows it is a smart thing to surround himself with smart people who bring what is needed to the table. Also, keep in mind, he is not done picking his cabinet members. There is quite a bit of talk about three female democratic governors being considered for positions and I do not believe any of them have held jobs at the federal level. David Axelrod is an interesting pick and he is not a Washington insider. He has some experience as a political strategist, but it was at the state level before he worked on Obama's campaign.

When I voted for change - I voted for a change from the Bush administration. So far, Obama has made picks that I'm comfortable with.

Agreed! I am pleased with the cabinet choices that Obama has made so far! :goodvibes

Everyone who bought into the "Change you can believe in", "we're going to get rid of the Washington insider" line of thinking had to be willfully naive. The Washington insiders aren't going anywhere. We're just changing from a Republican set of Washington insiders to a Democrat set of Washington insiders. That's your "change".

That's what I think too...Republican's aren't doing a good job righrt now -- Put Democrats in. If they do a great job, they will stay. If they don't, it will swing back to Republican. That's the way it has been going since I can remember doing fake votes in Junior High. It's always "change" parties, when things are going bad. Keep the same party when things are going good. I don't expect it to change totally to a 3rd party anytime soon. It's just the pendlum swinging between Republicans & Democrats back & forth every 4 - 8 years.

The change I voted for was the change of address for Bush & Co...and those who think as he does!! :thumbsup2

I want smart people in his cabinet, why wouldn't I? :confused3

I think there were some smart people in the Bush administration...like Condalissa Rice, Colin Powell (until he left), and some others. I know you are referring to Obama's cabinet member selections....just saying.

I'll be thrilled to say goodbye to Rice.

After Bush and now Palin I don't think that SMART is an attribute some people care for .... :sad2:

Actually, Obama campaigned on the promise that he would change the way Washington works.

That is definitely true and sadly, Washington hasn't worked any differently under Clinton as it has under either Bush.

You're right. People feel more comfortable with "stupid." It doesn't challenge them or remind them of their own shortcomings.

I will admit I haven't read the whole thread, just the first few responses, but I have to say I am tired of people complaining about each thing Obama does. If he had chosen all new people, people who don't like him would complain about the 'lack of experience.' If he chooses experienced people it's 'more of the same.'

Like I said on another thread, he's using resources with experience to AFFECT change.

Give him a chance. You might even like him. ;) He's your president now. (As of Jan 2009)

Yep, the higher IQ the better. That's why I wrote in "Ken Jennings" for POTUS.

He just decided to leave Don't Ask Don't Tell the way it is for now, I'm sure that won't be the last campaign promise he "delays"

There should be a ticker or something for the broken promises. :rotfl2:

He started delaying things the night of the election, because he is already running for his second term.

Maybe so, but he can't do everything at once. It seems to me like the current economic condition of the U.S. would take a priority over some other issues right now.

Right - I appreciate his prioritizing the more important issues (effecting the most people) and then he can work on the other issues.

Of course, being a Hillary supporter - I am thrilled with her being nominated for Sec of State - I think she will be a big change from Condi.

What has Condi done in that role? Any peace processes?

(Insert standard "Well, at least Bush won't be President, so that's OK with me!" response.)

Yeah, like working to help shape a plan to try and help our auto workers.... oh, wait.

Well, how can he do anything to help the auto workers right now when he isn't even in office yet? Part of my income comes from the auto industry, and believe me, I want it to be successful; but I don't see how he can do much right now. Since Bush is currently in office, what is he doing to help the auto workers? I'm not trying to be smart, I'm just asking.
