The servers are very accommodating. Just because a dish is fix a certain way, you can modify it. My 12 year old grandson does it all of the time. He has been at WDW on the DDP several times and is an adult. He looks at the adult menu and will request the adult menu with children options. At the 50s PT he might order the adult fried chicken, but instead of mashed potatoes and greens, he'll get french fries and corn. At LeCellier, he got the BBQ filet and they put the BBQ sauce on the side (not on the filet) and he got a baked potatoe (or french fries) instead of cream cheese mashed potatoes. Same thing for Kona Cafe. Just look at the menu and check out the side items, as that is what he uses to substitute and all restraurants seem to have fries, so he get those instead of the mashed potatoes with "skins on them" yuck (according to him). He seems to do well on the appetizers as he likes shrimp and 9 out of 10 places seem to have it. When they don't he gets a salad. The only time he ever got a modified adult/child's meal was at Kona's last year and he got the kids pasta and tom sauce in an adult serving--they charged us $9.99 for it.
