I wasn’t talking about the thread, I was specifically talking about that poster. Her referencing a convoy tells me all I need to know. And to answer your question from a while back, no, hockey in Canada isn’t decreasing. There are age limits on contact and kids are taught how to properly hit. If I was a parent of a youngster, there’s no way I’d let them play tackle football at 10 years old.

To counter this football players are also taught how to tackle heads up to lessen impact. There are ways and new technology to allow football to be less dangerous. Like I said my youngest was the only one to play football and he did not start until 7th grade but that was because I refused to give up my month of August since soccer was played up until the end of July and football started on August 1st.

That's good to know. I didn't know you had replied to this thread so my post was in no way an attack or judgement of you.

I thought it was fun, though I'm apparently too old to recognize Kendrick Lamar. I know he did the Black Panther soundtrack, but don't know anything about him aside from that. I knew everyone else. I'm not the biggest rap/hip hop fan, but it can be catchy and it's great for drunk dancing in college.

Definitely preferable to Lady Gaga/Katy Perry/etc.
You take that back.

There is such a wide variety of music and fir each person there is some you love, some you hate and some you’re indifferent to. I’m in the demographic that the show was supposed to appeal to (44 years old, graduated in 95) but I absolutely hate rap. I hated it in the 90s and I hate it now. But it’s a 15 minute show in the middle of a football game, who cares if it’s not your kind of music?! My perfect half time show would be Bette Midler and Barry Manilow singing soft rock from the 70s, but that’s never gonna happen 😂 They pick things that they hope will appeal to the widest audience. It’s never gonna be everyone’s cup of tea.

I’m not sure who the show was geared towards. I’m “old” and dislike rap. But the artists (loosely) performing are “old” snoop, Dre, Mary are all in their 50’s!!

I didn't even watch that one because I cannot stand listening to Katy Perry, so I had no idea what the big deal was with left shark the next day when everyone was talking about it.

Hey now, don't let that stop you from having a strong opinion! At least one person in this thread admitted to turning off last night's performance a few minutes in and still declared it the worst ever. Not that I think watching the whole thing would have changed the PP's opinion, but still....

The only thing I thought was a problem with it was the structure of the stage. If you are performing in a round stadium with all seats filled, you have to design the stage to allow your performers to face every direction at some point in the show. This stage gave me a nasty vibe of "The only audience that really counts is either sitting on the home-side 50 or watching on TV. Those of y'all out in the endzones are outta luck.") There are ways that same stage could have been done so that the sides of the "rooms" were open and delineated by lighting; or have made the "house" 2 stories to rotate on a turntable.

As to who the show was geared towards, the answer is Rap fans who are old enough to have the kind of money to afford SuperBowl tickets.

Most everyone who grew up in the 90s know of these artists. They were so big at the time that you could say it was part of youth culture. And it extended across all demographics. I imagine it's a narrow band of people as well. My two youngest (13, 19) don't really know who they are. But my 26 year old knows who they are, but not really many of their songs. So it's interesting that the entire halftime show centered around 35-45 year olds. My wife and I (40s) loved it, but nostalgia is a powerful drug.

Google said hockey interest and participation is down 6%, while tennis, basketball, and soccer interest and participation was increasing.

I thought it was great. Was it the best ever??? I wouldn't say so, but I enjoyed it.
I do think it was geared more for the tv audience than the stadium audience. The set was not easily viewed from all sides.
The best was singing along to all the songs, and my daughter's boyfriend afterward saying, "I didn't know your mom was so cool."
Hilarious.

One thing about that stadium is that it has an absolutely MASSIVE 70,000 square foot 4K screen that loops above the field. Audience members would likely have an easier time seeing on that, even if they were on the side facing the stage.

I don't think the halftime show is produced with the stadium audience in mind.
