My DH recently began driving as a substitute school bus driver (after being laid off from his last job of 17 years) for the school system I also work for. Each school bus normally has student "helpers" who are familiar with the routes so they can help the sub drivers out by telling them which houses they need to stop at. DH had a great 5th grade girl helping him out and made his route yesterday much easier.

A parent actually called the bus shop to file a complaint because her KINDERGARTEN CHILD was "weepy" because she could not be a helper!!!!!!!

WHO in their right mind would want a 5 year old giving a school bus driver directions???? I swear I thought I had "heard it ALL" until this happened!!
Some parents AMAZE me with their "my little snowflake" mentality.

Wow, just wow.

I can see them stopping at the Quick-E-Mart now for candy. "But, our other driver ALWAYS stops!"

Oh dear another self entitled parent and their precious darling has joined the school world.

You can't win with some of these parents. It's wise just to listen, nod and move on IMO.

I had to check and make sure you didn't live in my area. I *totally* know a parent who would have done this!

WTH is wrong with these parents? Whoever took the call at the bus shop probably wanted to reach through the phone and...oh, never mind ;)

I'd assign this kid a helper job tomorrow: "Your job is to sit in the back of the bus & tell me if anyone falls out". :lmao:

I wonder sometimes if these type of parents should have to register on a list for raising future criminals.

:rotfl2: Hey, at least the mom didn't expect her to drive.

Just think about what would happen if this parent posted their side of the story. In all likelihood they would characterize the bus driver as mean when their perfect child (who is always pleasant and cheerful, is gifted, and was taught perfect manners) asked to be a helper. No doubt the bus driver was "rude" and gave the child "dirty looks."

I am sure that some on the DIS would advise the parent to write a note to the school, file a complaint, have a conference with the principal, demand that the bus driver be fired, and send the child to counseling.

Nope. I would have told them they were nuts for expecting a 5 year old to remember where their house is, nevermind the rest of the bus kids and that little snowflake will get a turn when s/he is 13 like the rest of the helpers.

I might have gotten a mod spank but I can handle that.

I'm suprised that kid is allowed to ride the bus. Maybe mom follows the bus to school each morning to watch her snowflake drift into school??

But, don't you see how special that little 5 year old snowflake is? How could you even think for a moment that little precious should be disappointed? For shame!!

Hahahahaha! That's great!

I had a parent last year complain to me that her daughter wanted the blank piece of paper on the top and not the second blank piece of paper under it after another child made it to the coloring center first. "But she knew which paper she wanted," the mother told me, "She really gets her heart set on things."

When the little snowflake told the other student that she had wanted the paper from the top of the pile the other student told her to get her own and went back to coloring. Hence the phone call.

Seriously. We even had a meeting over it. A BLANK PIECE OF PAPER FROM A PILE!!! :headache:

As a parent in my right mind and who grew up with paddles in schools-those were the days, now schools are just catering to kids as are parents who want to be "friends'with their kids and not let them live a real life in fear of disappointment.
I would have told the 5 year old and her mom that her job is to sit down on the bus and behave.

You got that right.

Some of these kids should be introduced to the paddle. I acted up *once* in 5th grade. Never did so again after meeting "The Paddle". ;)

And hate to tell kids, disappointment is a part of life. Deal. With. It.

I feel sorry for that child when she has to face any kind of disappointment in life that is actually important.. :sad2:
