Requesting prayers tonight please. My mother was admitted to hospital today. She is on day 7 with Covid and experienced a drop in oxygen levels today. It’s her birthday. My sisters were visiting her through the door today and felt she looked poor. Called 911.

We have a complicated relationship. She and my father cut me off seven years ago due to issues over my brother and religion. Very long story. I haven’t seen her since December 2014, but she got in touch with me back in October via email and we’ve been corresponding. I don’t think she’s told my dad, although my sisters knew we had resumed contact. Anyway, all that to say please send prayers and good thoughts.

Quandrea , I’m sending healing thoughts to your mom and hoping for a speedy recovery. Sending hugs to you as I’m sure this is just all really difficult for you .

Yes, it is scary. I know a lot about medicine. At times like this that knowledge is a curse. Her oxygen levels at admission were not good, and her illness is taking an unfortunately predictable course. Praying for a favourable outcome.

The empty roads and skies. I remember how quiet it was. It was great honestly.

I miss those empty road months, it was so nice to drive !! My sister is an essential worker who normally takes the bus and we decided that she would not be bussing unless absolutely necessary, so since I was able to switch to WFH much of the time, I became her chauffeur. My poor car doesn't know what happened to it with all the extra mileage ! But wow those early days it was so quiet and sososo few cars on the road at any time of day.

I noticed the last lockdown didn't make much of a dent in the amount of traffic, so it will be interesting to see if this one does.

There’s a better chance this was brewing before the long weekend. Our chief public health officer in our region was quoted telling us to prepare for the “tsunami” that is on its way . Our case counts are spiking and we are going to be in the worst of it now or very soon . My daughter is a EA and was called to work in two schools with positive cases last week . Today at another school she is there filling in for an EA who is quarantined . There seems to be no way for school staff to avoid it . They need their vaccines NOW. Luckily our board prioritized all school staff starting today .

I know there are a good number of parents just keeping their kids home from school this week as it's a short week before the moved March break here in Ontario, but the schools remain open and there are some increasing concerns with the variants (especially here in Toronto).

I wish that was it, but fear it is not. She teaches at an inner-city school. She will have a full class even on 'snow days' (buses cancelled) when most suburban schools are near empty. The parents of her kids are the ones who can't afford to miss a day of work, so attendance is generally very high.

We kept our kids home this week (we are in ON). Just didn't have confidence in the (grade 8) students to socially distance during unmasked lunch hours. My daughter tells me that the students are up and about within the classroom at lunchtime, unmasked. No thanks. And it's only a 4 day week this week....and I saw people having family over in our neighborhood for Easter.

@bankr63 I think you are in Ottawa? I've kept my son home this year but he is still in touch with a few friends who say there are cases in their school so classes are being closed. We're in Barrhaven so the epitome of the burbs I know a lot of parents can't keep their kids home. There are also quite a few I know who are keeping their kids home this week, since it's short, and next week is delayed Spring Break. I worry about what will happen after that break though, Dr Etches asking for things to be locked down more has me believing we'll end up with at least a two week full lock down. I only pray the vaccines keep getting rolled out! I hope it's enough.

Toronto just announced schools are going online as of tomorrow for the rest of the week, and potentially coming back to in-person after the spring break, April 19th.

Toronto just decided to close their schools just a little bit ago . I know Guelph decided to close theirs last night . Niagara is heating up and I think we will have to close too . Dh and I are trying to decide if we should switch DS17 online effective immediately. On one hand his school is still in good shape , on the other hand we don’t need to be part of the problem and wait to be told what is needed here . Once again I find myself in the familiar position of feeling like I’m over reacting and under reacting at the same time .
