Thinking of selling

NEVER would have I considered selling my DVC bought in 1999 sight unseen but just turned 50 and feeling bummed and not excited anymore. No kids, no nephews/nieces, my husband has no desire to go, parents are elderly now and finding myself with not many travel companions anymore so renting it out more. I have an upcoming trip invited a friend and her daughter but thinking maybe it’s time to say goodbye. I can always stay offsite (yuk) if needed. If anyone can recommend a company and I will also do a search.

Think long and hard before you sell. If you are certain you will not use it, then this is a good market if you might change your mind, then maybe rent points out for a few years.

We have been spending a week in HH over the Winter, and this year are spending a week at Aulani. We are in Minnesota, so a mid-winter week somewhere warmer (HHI isn't hot in January, but I don't have to worry about snow) is important to us for our sanity. We've owned long enough that I look at those trips as cost of dues - its a cheap week for Hawaii.

It's an awesome time to sell. WDW is too expensive to not even be excited about it.

Everyone talks about DVC like you're supposed to hold it until you die, because that's how it's sold. There's no reason you have to do that. It's a big world, and you can visit so much of it for the cost of WDW. The cool thing about DVC is that it is so easy to sell.

I have used several brokers out there, including the board sponsor. I have so far had no issues with any of them!

I am 72 and my trips to Disney are quite limited. Prefer to work on bucket list of travels. Son and his family use points frequently and I rent the rest to cover annual dues.

At least for the time being, I am going to keep my DVC as long as I can rent points.

Unless you need the money, I'd hold onto the points. Renting them out should easily cover the dues, and put a few hundred bucks in your pocket a year, while the value of the points may keep going up.

Things in life change, and there may be a point where you want to visit again, and you don't want to regret having sold your points. If you're 100% sure you want to sell though, now is a pretty good time to do so.

I also want to tell you it is 100% OK to visit Disney on your own. We did an adults only trip for our 10th anniversary without the kids and had a blast. I've visited several times by myself when I was in town for work conferences and had a great time. Disney isn't just for kids, you can go have an awesome trip on your own if you want.

Use anyone of the companies that are in the ROFR thread that people buy through.

There isn't a right or wrong answer to where to sell. I would also talk to 2 or 3 different companies if you are unfamiliar to see who you feel comfortable with.

I would also say make sure to pay attention to what commission they charge. You are always in charge of the price even though some may tell you to list it lower or higher.

I’ve been to the parks alone a couple of times. It was nice to take my time and do what I wanted.

We have used our points a decent amount at Aulani when we get burnt out on WDW and I feel the value there is really good. And as others have said you can always use a Davids etc to rent out points so you don’t have to do a ton of work. Of course selling now will bring a pretty good price and I only you know how much you want to keep your points.

62 and still going to WDW. I even bought more points this year. I do have lots of nieces, nephews, and grands to leave things to, when the time comes. Right now, still having fun. Looking forward to retirement and being able to spend months down in Florida rather than a week here or there.
