Thinking of buying into SSR

Hi,

My husband and I have been looking into DVC since 1993 and always put off buying for one reason or another. I just sent in my deposit for shares in the new Saratoga resort. We are going back and forth regarding points. What do most people do? I have 4 children and don't want to buy too many points but don't want to buy too little.
The other question I have is, if I have enough points for 5 nights and want to pay for a 6th night (because I don't want to borrow) can I do that and how easy is it to do? All opinions and suggestions are welcome.

Well I probably will not be to much help as my wife and I just bought in last month.

But here is what we did.

We sat down with the points chart and figured up how many vacations we plan to take every year to disney and when. The when is really important as peak seasons take more points.
We then picked the size of room we want to stay in when we go. After that we simply added up the points and added like 40 which is what we bought.

We like going in Sep. and Jan. (our Anniversary) So we said ok. We will go for 5 nights every year in september and 3 or 4 nights in Jan. We want a one bedroom both times. Firgured up the points that would take For a good view at BWV in Jan and SSR in Sep. Thats how many points we bought.

We have one rule. We will never stay on a Fri. or Sat. night. LOL Cost to much.

I hope that helps you.

damilani...you didn't tell us what season you will be vacationing in the most.

You'll be needing a 2BR at SSR, so here are the Sun-Thursday 5 night stay point requirements there:

Summer Magic Season: 180 points
Adventure off season: 135 points
Choice Fall Season: 145 points
May/September Dream Season: 155 points

As for adding a night to a reservation with cash, I'm not too sure but I think they are separate reservations and they might not be able to guarantee you the same room. Possibly they could link the reservations....I'll defer to the experts here on that part.

You have to decide how many will usually go, what season, how often you will visit a DVC resort and how long you can stay. You past history is a good place to start so look at what you've done since you first looked. Once you've done that, speding some time with the points charts will help you. You may need to buy a few more points than you think you need depending on the variables.

There is no guarantee you can get the extra night on points or that if you did, you wouldn't have to change rooms. The banking and borrowing one of the benefits of the system. Few peolple visit DVC over time without banking, borrowing or both.

We bought into SSR with two contracts, so we could sell it in pieces if we wanted to.

I suggest you over buy, so you can get the best deal and not kick yourself when you pay more later (epsecially if you are like us and kicking yourself for not buying at 93 prices). Buy your first contract with the minimum you think you need and then buy another with the extra point, then you can sell later if you find you never use them.

This was my first time ever using any type of forum and I can't thank you all enough for your input. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions for all of you.
Thanks so much!

Damilani

Please do come back. When we're not joking around (See "21 in and OKW GW"), this is an extremely well-informed group about DVC topics.

Like they say....no question too small, and the only bad question is the one you just assume you know the answer to! :D
