Can we "just show up" for WOC?

We are going on our second trip to DL. On our last trip (a few years ago) - we didn't make any special plans for WOC. We didn't do VQ, dining reservation or line up early. We just rolled up about 10-15 minutes before it started and had a good view. I don't remember exactly where we stood. We don't care about having a specific view, don't need to be up front, we just want to be able to see it. I'm not sure if last time was a unique scenario or if this is something we can potentially do again. Can we just show up before it starts if we're not picky about our view? Or will we potentially be shut out from being able to see it at all. Thanks!

Yes, we never use the VQ. There’s plenty of spots that will be available that provide excellent viewing. The second showing, typically after the park closes, often has a small audience.

That's what we did in July 2022, and what I plan on doing again in October if I get to see it. I always plan on second shows because they tend to have smaller crowds.
