How does the GF Lodge(or tower they may call it ) Concierge compare to Poly LVC. We have stayed at the Poly 2x now and are thinking of trying the GF. I know the view will not be the same and since we are planning on doing the meal plan I didn't think it was worth the extra $ to stay in the Main Bldg @ GF. Any info would be great!

I haven't actually stayed at the Poly concierge, so I can't answer your question with authority, but what the heck.

Although the Sugar Loaf concierge is sort of a concierge "light" as compared to the main building concierge, I get the sense that it is pretty much in line with the other deluxe resort concierges, with the exception perhaps of the Contemporary 14th floor (and, of course, the main building in the GF). I think the primary difference is that people seem to like the Poly's lounge much better. There are some report scattered about on the internet that alcohol -- coridials and stuff -- are no longer available at Sugar Loaf. (They are available at the Poly.) I'm pretty sure that's incorrect, but you might want to double check if it's important to you.

I think the service is basically the same, although there are many many fewer concierge rooms overall at the Poly than at the GF, so I would think the staff to guest ratio might be better.

As for whether it's worth it, since the Sugar Loaf rooms are all garden view, the proper comparison is to look at the price difference with GV rooms -- so about $110 to $160 per night depending on season. Just doesn't make any sense to me, in particular because I think that SL is the worst view building at the GF (which is probably why disney retrofitted it for concierge). But everyone is different. With the dining plan, it seems like a lot of money, but of course, a "lot" is relative for everyone.

First, the lodge is no longer "light" and does have the same offerings as all the other concierges. Secondly, I typically describe it as a bed & breakfast type feel. The lounge actually is located right in the ground floor lobby and is set up with a few round tables and some couches and chairs. There is no television and both the staff and the food offerings are in this same location. You don't get any type of view from the lounge. All the rooms are either marina or garden view. With marina, you might be able to see the fireworks, but you won't see the castle. For me, it's always been very cozy and quiet.

I think this is a very accurate description. We enjoy Sugar Loaf very much and the staff has always been very gracious and helpful. We love the location of the building as it is very centrally located.

I think Sugar Loaf is very nice. I definitely prefer it to the Polynesian, but would prefer the main building over SL any day! :flower:

Sugar Loaf does have the same service as the main building, but I really like the view in the lounge in the main building and the wonderful ambience in the main building's lounge overlooking the lobby. I think the GF overall has better food offerings & more selections than the Poly.

Sugar Loaf's lounge has no view and no TVs. It is cozy and very pretty, though. I have only stayed at the Polynesian once, and it was LVC. I was not impressed with anything about the resort at all. (sorry) The lounge staff at the GF is much friendlier and willing to get sodas, bottled water, juice and milk. The concierge staff at the GF was always smiling and very helpful. Almost all the CMs we ran into at the GF said hello and have a nice day. Maybe we hit the Poly at a bad time, but one stay was enough for us. ;)

We had a tower room in the SL building and our view was very nice courtyard view of the GF quiet pool. I really enjoyed that view. It was very pretty at night with the reflections of the lights sparkling on the water. When we have stayed in the main building we have requested the MK/castle view and really loved having that view. :wizard:

You cannot see the castle from SL. You can request marina view or garden view - which we had.

The GF is fabulous and you will love your stay there in whichever building you decide.

Lark, I stayed 14th floor CR, and it is nothing to write home about. I woudn't do it again. Nothing special, really. GF SL is much better!! :sunny:

Happy planning,

No problem Lark. At one time SugarLoaf was a slightly different version of concierge as is the 12th floor of the CR. This is no longer the case and it does indeed have all the same tangibles as the main building (ie staff on duty until 10pm, lounge offerings from 7am-10pm, wine/beer & cordials). I apologize if I misread your post and if you meant the intangibles were different, then that is very true. The lounge in the main building is much larger and the staff and the lounge are located on completely different floors. It definitely has a different feel than SugarLoaf.
