I think Sugar Loaf is very nice. I definitely prefer it to the Polynesian, but would prefer the main building over SL any day!
Sugar Loaf does have the same service as the main building, but I really like the view in the lounge in the main building and the wonderful ambience in the main building's lounge overlooking the lobby. I think the GF overall has better food offerings & more selections than the Poly.
Sugar Loaf's lounge has no view and no TVs. It is cozy and very pretty, though. I have only stayed at the Polynesian once, and it was LVC. I was not impressed with anything about the resort at all. (sorry) The lounge staff at the GF is much friendlier and willing to get sodas, bottled water, juice and milk. The concierge staff at the GF was always smiling and very helpful. Almost all the CMs we ran into at the GF said hello and have a nice day. Maybe we hit the Poly at a bad time, but one stay was enough for us.
We had a tower room in the SL building and our view was very nice courtyard view of the GF quiet pool. I really enjoyed that view. It was very pretty at night with the reflections of the lights sparkling on the water. When we have stayed in the main building we have requested the MK/castle view and really loved having that view.
You cannot see the castle from SL. You can request marina view or garden view - which we had.
The GF is fabulous and you will love your stay there in whichever building you decide.
Lark, I stayed 14th floor CR, and it is nothing to write home about. I woudn't do it again. Nothing special, really. GF SL is much better!!
Happy planning,
