Hi all, first post here and will be my first trip to Disney since I was a kid, so we are in the middling of planning.
We were surprised with a gifted Disney trip recently from a very generous family member. We are a family of 4 with 2 small Children (6 and 4 at time of trip). The family member booked us for a 7-day trip with 4 park days at Port Orleans French Quarter at the beginning of March.
The Room was booked at a standard room rate and recently a $400 offer came out and I was doing the math and it isn't a ton to upgrade into a Deluxe. Add to the point that we wouldn't normally be booking a Deluxe when we go again in the future and that we planned to do a lot of extra's this trip because it was a gift so thought this might be worth it.
After doing our research some of the things we plan to do on the trip is to have a Resort Park rest day in the middle of our stay. We also are going to be planning a mid-day break where we go back to the resort, weather permitting using the pool, this way we have go to the parks in the AM and PM and give the kids a nice break in middle of the day and hopefully dodge some crowds in the process.
The Three resorts we were considering for an upgrade were Animal Kingdom Lodge (~$900 Upgrade), Wilderness Lodge (~$1,100 Upgrade), or the Contemporary (~$1,500 Upgrade).
We see Pro's and Con's to each choice and even see Pros and Cons for staying at POFQ
Contemporary Pros:
For the closeness with the parks especially MK (On our MK Day we are going to have someone watch our son for the 2nd half of the day to make it a special night staying out late for our older daughter) and since we plan to go back to the room for a lunch break then go back at night no matter what park we are at its nice to be able to get back and forth easy.
AKL Pros:
The big pro here is the theming so the kids would love it for that and closeness to the animals. Also being close for our AK day but not close for the other park days.
DWL Pros:
Again, MK access by boat would be nice (I know not as quick as the monorail) and the theming would be great for the kids so in both price and location is the middle ground option
Staying at POFQ Pros:
Pro's being close to Disney Springs and access by boat, More Compact Resort for getting around easy (but having to take bus's everywhere is a downside), and of course Mickey Beignets are a big Pro haha.
I know no matter what direction we will be happy but since we aren't frequent visitors, we want to make this the best trip possible for both the kids and us, so we are kind of torn.
