Thinking About Taking a 7 Month Old To WDW, Am I Crazy?

My wife had mentioned to her sister (my daughter's aunt!) about us taking our daughter to WDW. My sister-in-law has never been and really wants to go.

I think she thought we would not take her this year, with her being so young and that maybe we'd all go together next year - my sister-in-law would go with her long term BF. This would work well because we'd have ready-made baby-sitters to hand!

As above, I do love WDW to pieces, but it sort of comes into my life for a while and then leaves it for a while. Currently I'm very much into WDW and want to be there now. Tomorrow. Sometime soon!

If we did come over later this year, it won't be a cheap trip - as above (again! ) I would like to stay on property, very possibly AKL and, as you say, flights aren't ultra-cheap. In short, I couldn't afford to pay for anyone beyond my wife and daughter. However, I know from past visits that as soon as I've been again (my last visit was in 2000) I'll have the bug and want to be back there ASAP again. So we could do another trip next year with the sister-in-law et al.

I know she'll be a bit upset if we go before then though...

NUTS is going with a 6 month old, who will likely be teething, and two 8 year old girls in JULY!.. and the girls want to see all the shows and all the fireworks and go on all the good rides!

LOL

but, we are staying on site at the BC ;-)

It will be fine.. bring a stroller that reclines, plenty of infant water, changes of clothes and a clip on fan.. and a prayer!

good luck!

Bozza, looks like you've got quite a dilemma! Hope it works out.

iwannago!!, I wouldn't worry too much about teething. I know a lot of mothers do. But my DD has almost 6 teeth, and not one time has she complained about them or been irritable because of them. I know a lot of parents talk about their kids being fussy about teething babies. But I've read from several sources that teething usually doesn't bother babies and that their getting a slight fever is usually not due to cutting teeth. Fussiness is sometimes due to parents being fussy over a teething baby. Of course, this isn't true for all babies. But I think baby orajel works fine, and teething rings. Good luck!

We are planning on taking our 7 month old, next January.
If you are doing the math you may have figured out the little guy isn't here yet. Its 2 weeks til my due date!
But the trip is booked and planning is underway.
We have been to Disney every year since our Honeymoon in 97 (joined DVC in 99), and cant wait to see it through our little guys eyes. We are staying on-site and bring grandparents with us. They are aware that we will be on baby's schedule.
We realize this trip will be very different than the previous trips we have taken, and are excited about that.
We took a 2-week Orlando trip last Sept, as a big trip before the pregancy began. (Don't do the math, you might embarass me ;) )
I think you need to do what is right for your family. Know it will be different but take it at baby's schedule and pack lots of film.

when my DS was 6 months and my DD was 2 1/2...guess who was easier to deal with? Also I'd say it depends on the child. My DS was and is a very laid-back kid and did great at WDW. Now this October, my 3rd will be 15 months and I'm a little nervous about him...he's very "high-maintenance".

Anyway, what we did that worked out great...my DH wore him in a Snugli. This worked out great cause he is stronger than me and I could concentrate on my DD. We would take advantage of shows in the A/C to take him out and nurse him. A few times we went to the baby center for nursing b/c he was at the distracted age and I wanted him to get hydrated. They had comfy rocking chairs and lots of A/C.

I have the best pictures of DS and DH together with the snugli and they really bonded that trip. We also got a great picture of Pluto eating his head!! I'm very glad we did that trip. Good luck!!

Sorry. I wouldn't go. We went at 12 mos and 18. I think 18 is the earliest I'd go. and take family to help then.

I say that because we took our firstborn to WDW when he was just 7 months old. In fact, on the video tape taken just after his birth, I am holding him and my husband asks, ".......you just had a baby, now what are you going to do?" I reply, "I'm going to Disney World!" (For any who don't get it, it was a popular line from the Disney commercials at the time.)
Anyway, we had a great time and just worked around the baby's schedule. If he was napping in the stroller, we would shop or something else and then resume the rides after he woke. Disney is very family-friendly. EX: DS was napping and we had ressies at Alfredo's. They let us just wheel the stroller into the restaurant and put it next to our table (out of the way). He slept the whole time and we had a very enjoyable dinner.
Go for it. Even a bad day in WDW is better than a good day anywhere else!
